Welcome to the universe of LEGO Construct & Command, where your LEGO become tabletop gaming! Have you ever wanted to test your mettle as a tactician beating long odds, siege a fortress of your own creation, or just show your friends who the best commander is? The infinitely customizable LEGO Construct & Command brings the strongest warriors from across time and space alive like never before! Whether you choose to play alongside chivalrous Medieval Era units, tactical Gunpowder Era units, or exotic Future Era units, new friends and foes await!
The premise is simple: players spend gold on units and equipment available to an era, the units are placed onto opposing sides of the battlefield, and those players take turns giving their units actions to perform. Outcomes of those actions are decided by a 6 or 20 sided die, and the game is over when only one player has units left on the map. We have found the difficulty in learning LEGO C&C to be about equivalent to Settlers of Catan, where players can pick up the game with moderate ease, but with a huge upper limit for strategies and mastery.
The core gameplay for regular play already offers lots of fun strategic choices in units and maps, but we want to continue pushing boundaries. We have also been experimenting with magic wielding wizards, massive castle sieges, and even played through cooperative RPG story modes. These expansion possibilities offer additional depth to C&C, and we will continue to play out those features while iterating clear rules to help other LEGO fans bring minifigures to life at their own tables.
Far and away, the most exciting part of C&C is the customization available to players. With the appropriate amount of bricks, you can just as easily play a strategy game in Johnny Thunder’s desert or a Spinjitzu temple as you can in a bridge-crossed ravine of your own creation. Whichever map you decide to play on, tougher choices await in deciding the right composition of units. How can you best utilize the map, and what is your opponent going to bring? No two battles will ever play out the same way.

This is such an awesome idea. It’s a table top game that literally has endless possibilities! I love that you can use what you already have, you don’t have to go buy a huge castle or anything like that.
That's exactly what we wanted! Of course, now that we've been playing our own game we have inevitably succumbed to buying more LEGO to have even more epic matches
I tried playing this doing Romans (Me) vs Uruk Hai (Friend). my friend of course had more soldiers than I did, it was 23 Romans vs 31 Uruk hai, but I had about 5 minifigs of archers, What i did for the rules is that my archers have 3 shots for each minifig, and Archers are a huge role in a land, a siege, infact possibly any battle. The rules is that i would choose an enemy unit to shoot, my friend and I roll dice, if my friend rolls highest, his unit lives, but if i roll high, i kill his unit. I manage to win with 2 romans remaining, that is how much archers are a huge roll in any type of battlefield, no matter the cost
That's great! If you check out our website you can find rules to play a medieval battle just like this (funnily enough, we have also played Romans vs. Uruk Hai, aka the coolest LEGO armies every created). Most weapons for medieval LEGO C&C roll 2 die with some occasional bonuses to help balance. We geared the meta of LEGO C&C where archers and range clearly play a pivotal role in each battle, but you can equip your units with shields and helms to help minimize the damage archers can do. We wanted a game where you could win a battle with a shield line protecting archers just as much as you could rush that line with a battalion of battle axes. We've had a few matches that had to played over the course of the week. The other thing we've tried to accomplish with our balance is that you can have a balanced match between medieval and gunpowder or even space units based on the cost of each unit and their equipment. I recommend taking the dive after trying a few small matches! (maybe even trying out your hand at making hero minifigures that have special abilities)

That was exactly why we wanted to create this game! While we try to make everything look aesthetically pleasing for the videos, you can always declare what weapons/equipment minifigures have or don't have if you don't have all the pieces you want!

Great point. Bigger maps definitely are the most rewarding part of LEGO Construct & Command, although they obviously take quite a bit of time to set up. You can sneak a peek of a few we have designed in the trailer, but of course with LEGO your bricks and imagination are the limit!

@@hdhrdfsrkgh We actually have a mechanic for "Last Minifig Standing" where no matter what era you are playing you get an extra action per turn. Not quite a super move but maybe we should think one up 🤔

Yes! Horses have been hard to implement because they have an awkward footprint on the battlefield but sci fi ships are definitely in the works

I’ve always thought that a tabletop game using Legos made so much sense. I love the idea, and I’ve seen lots of interpretations of it over the years. But all the interpretations I’ve seen have always suffered from the same problem: the gameplay is VERY basic. Lego offers so much versatility, that some really compelling gameplay could be done with it…but I just don’t ever see people doing that.
Most of what I’ve seen boils down to I move and attack, then you move and attack, then I move and attack, then you move and attack, etc…. With very little variation beyond that. Using Legos makes it more interesting, but if it was Legos with truly compelling gameplay…it would be transformative.
Glad you love the idea and yeah it's definitely hard to break out of the mold of a turn-based game. We like to think that Construct & Command is unique in that it is a fully LEGO/brick system of game play that can scale in size, so anyone with LEGO or other bricks can play. We've also added in mechanics that we think allow for a lot of versatility and strategy so that no game ever feels the same.
If you have any suggestions for how to transcend the mold of most turn-based games, we would love to hear them!

Me and my friend did something like this when I was at his house, we had a baseplate and grabbed some figures and we could do something every move. With a move u could make someone shoot or move and a little more. It was super simple but there was some stuff that made it fun

I love Lego minifigures because I like creating my own characters.
We love remixing parts from different minifigures to create our own characters, definitely one of our favorite parts of Construct & Command!

I was making a system like this. I made different levels for characters so you can include superheroes, jedi, and what not. Each type of civilian, Soldier, or supers with power would have different harts(like the lego games) and points so you can attempt to balance the game. I Could never get a good system for vehicle builds. I ran into the how do you define a chair problem and it would be really hard to balance.
Sounds cool! Yeah we've also been working on a vehicle system and it is certainly difficult. Especially given the size of vehicles relative to minifigs and deciding how best vehicles should move on the map

I love the idea of this game, and plan on using it myself. However, I was wondering if there may be some sort of updated rulebook? Some of the things in the rulebook and era sheets from the website dont line up, like how there is an unused weapon modification system pointed out in the rulebook, and how the laser cannon has a pierce ability on a crit that isnt mentioned in said rulebook. Other than that, its an easy system to understand and has a lot of potential as a system that allows in game build modification on the fly. I hope that these things get fixed and that the system gets official support!

Also, pierce is the same as the *shatter* ability, which we are renaming to *hard hit* to emphasize the fact that the units defenses stay intact

We agree! Those are some great ideas and you should definitely try them out. This is just a trailer and we wanted filmable scenes that weren't too busy. Obviously massive maps with special conditions are going to be the most rewarding, and time consuming, way to play. We hope to eventually post matches on those kinds of maps in the future

That's exactly where the inspiration for this game came from. We (the two creators) had played a *very* rigged version with my older brother and a few years ago we thought to ourselves "that was super fun, and I bet we could make a balanced version where both sides can win." Years later, here we are!

(In brief though, build a 1x23 "range meter" with a 1x1x1 cylinder on each end. With one end resting on the head of the archer/ranged unit, make an arc in front of the unit. Anyone in the 180 degrees in front of the unit is "in range" and can be hit. To determine a hit, roll the d20 die and refer to the range probabilities. After confirming a hit, roll dice as a normal attack. All medieval units add +1 to their defense roll against range)

@@twinsanity9882 *shatter* means that for that turn, the crossbow ignores all armor/defensive bonuses. Other weapons will still have to roll against the defensive bonuses for that unit when it is attacked.
It may be worth noting that the chances that an attacking unit defeats a defending unit for a 2 die vs. 2 die is 44.4%. While this may not seem like a great bonus for a critical hit, it's important to remember that the crossbow is very accurate and that if used against heavily armored units (such as units with tower shields), a critical crossbow hit can dramatically increase your odds of defeating a defending unit!
(to further illustrate, a defending unit with an advanced helm and heater shield, only costing an extra 4 gold, gets +4 added to their 2 die roll to defend against range. Ignoring all of those bonuses really helps out your crossbow units!)

Is this inspired by Brikwars by any chance? It sounds incredibly similar to that.
Suprisingly, no! We actually only found out about Brikwars after we posted this trailer. Construct & Command was born out of revisiting an incredibly rigged game one of our older brothers made while we were in middle school and thinking "huh, that would be fun if there was a chance either side could win..." Several years of balancing later, here we are! There are certainly similarities as they both use somewhat traditional tabletop gaming mechanics.
@@LEGOConstructCommand This looks much simpler than BW. BW is heavily based on Warhammer rules and is surprisingly complex. This looks more like Hero Quest or Space Hulk

We're fortunate that we've been hoarding LEGO for quite a few years (it may or may not be in the decade range) so we've built up quite a collection. There are definitely some relatively easy ways to get more minifigures through battlepack sets (kind of at the mercy of LEGO for that one) or ordering minifigs in production through "replacement parts" on the website. Alternatively third party LEGO sellers like bricklink also work!
if you got 2 minifigs and some accessories your good to go! more minifigs would obviously make for bigger and more complex battles but as long as you have 2 or more your set!

Bricklink is probably your best bet (or custom minifigures). Unfortunately it's been a while since western minifigures have been produced so they might be a bit pricier than other figures. Good luck!

Yes! Vehicles are tricky to balance so right now we're using them at an ad hoc basis but we hope to get at least some general rules written down soon

Not a dumb question at all, yes they totally work as regular weapons! Of course, you may need to just designate what weapons are what since they won't be exactly what's on the weapon sheet (which we encourage anyways since sometimes players may not have enough of a particular weapon for the army they're equipping)
Also, if a weapon looks particularly cool or whatever feel free to modify the stats & abilities to make your own unique weapons!

Great question, the answer is yes!
We recommend getting rid of each minifigure's free "pivot" per turn to account for the increased mobility (the pivot was added to make diagonal movement across a baseplate easier). You will want to convert all of the stud-based measures into inches (or cm) with each stud/movement = 5/16" (Honestly we recommend using the meter side of a ruler, 0.8 cm = 1 stud). A minifigure has 5 movements per turn, so can move a maximum of 4 cm or 1 9/16 inches. (4.8 cm or 1 7/8" if the unit uses an action as a movement) Probably easiest if you just consider how far a minifigure could move in a turn, and then place the minifigure somewhere in that radius.
Finally, for ranged attacks, anything outside of 6 7/8 inches radius (22 studs, 17.6 cm) measured from the stud on a minifigures head is "out of range"

Definitely! We are following the LEGO philosophy of not touching modern weapons, so for that reason 1920/30's mafia is probably the closest we are going to get to your idea. However, we think that if you combine the Gunpowder and Space eras you should be able to have a very solid equipment set for what you are imagining!

Kind of! Brikwars takes a more classic tabletop gaming approach while we tried to use LEGO for everything (well, except the 20-side die) including the map

Lego DND
We've used the Construct & Command ruleset to play several role playing campaigns, it's very fun!
But how do I get these?
So unfortunately we don't sell any starter kits, but we do provide the rulesets to play once you have your LEGO! (or substitute bricks) We have some tips and tricks for building up your armies and bricks over on our discord, but we are also more than happy to drop some ideas here in the comment section!

This is why I barely ever play with Legos anymore. And to me wheel Legos I can use to make vehicles I see as the most prized Legos because I have very few of them and I really like making vehicles.
@@Texan_christian1132 So you have a few options depending on what kind of minifigures you want and how much work you want to put into building up your forces. From the sound of it, I would recommend checking out the LEGO website Pick-A-Brick hub. The website allows you to search through sets (or just all parts of a certain type) and pick out what you want. This would also be a great way for you to get the wheels you want! The only drawback of using the LEGO website is that you're at the mercy of what LEGO pieces they are currently producing. Sometimes the minifigure torso or piece you are looking for will be unavailable.
That brings me to the other best options, which is trying to find the bricks on Bricklink. This is a bit harder because you are essentially going to third party stores and buying bricks from individual sellers all over the world. Usually there is pretty good transparency for the condition and brick you have, but there's always risk. It can also be frustrating because individual sellers may have varying amounts of pieces that you want. For example, you might find a seller that sells stormtrooper torsos, but not stormtrooper legs. It may take a few orders to get everything you are looking for, but this is probably the next best way!
Finally, my last suggestion is keeping an eye out for LEGO sets that have good minifigure/price ratios or visiting a LEGO store (if you're lucky enough to live nearby) and seeing what pieces/minifigures they have. The build-a-minifigure pieces are a pretty good value and at $10 for 3 minifigures, that's a good dollar per minifigure rate.
I hope this helps! If you're looking to play, we've found that matches as small as 3v3 can be super fun and dynamic, especially with the right map!

Unfortunately we do not at the moment. Right now we are two individuals with a huge passion for LEGO and strategy games with not much ability to carry an inventory. However, we have considered making some videos recommending what sets to buy in order to build up your armies and minifigures
How about ww2 or modern day?
We are currently sticking with LEGO's philosophy of only covering warfare that is pre-19th century or far future. That being said, you should definitely try remixing gunpowder and/or space ears to end up with WWII or modern day, we think it would be a blast! Also, we are working on a few Era "expansion cards," one of which will be a mafia expansion for Gunpowder Era since LEGO made a tommy gun piece

Definitely allowed! We won't be making specific equipment sheets for modern warfare types of weapons and giving them stats (again just following LEGO's lead), but based on the weapons of Gunpowder and Space Eras you should be able to just kind of make an "average" of the two and come up with some solid stats and mechanics. As for the Fantasy/Sci-Fi items, 100% allowed. Definite will help with the customization of armies and minifigures. Just be sure to define and agree what each item is before playing (also applicable if you don't have the particular LEGO items to play with and make substitutes)

It can be very similar to DnD depending on how you play, but it can also be very similar to Warhammer/other tabletop games. We built the ruleset from the ground up using LEGO throughout. We think we have something unique to offer those interested!
