This deck is probably why Glenn Jones didn't come back for any other Commander Versus videos. I love when McDarby gets super-snarky about this turbo-infect-tutor contraption. G: He's Varolz. He's a troll warrior. D: He's very trolly.
You can definitely tell David isn't having as much fun as with Danny. If i wanted to play turbofect I'd play modern. Even if I did play infect in EDH I'd probably try to do some whacky proliferation shenanigans rather than just pump a low cmc infect dude.
Keep on posting guys! I don't play anything other than Commander and occasionally Modern these days, so its always fun to see what creative decks show up when McDarby makes a video. Thanks for the videos!
Hey guys! You know this friendly, casual format? Well I've made a deck that does the exact same thing every game with no variation or imagination, all so I can win as fast as possible in this friendly, casual format!
at 30:09 David should have killed Scavenging Ooze while Glen's Beast Within was still on the stack so Glen couldn't exile his Myr Battlesphere. Not that it really mattered with the huge mismatch in decks.
Varolz is so epic. He is fun to play, fun to play against (sometimes), and he is not overpowered because only a handful of cards in magic work extremely well with him! And if someone kills him, then you are screwed haha. So balanced!
I run Kazuul for my mono-red EDH deck. Lots of ways to make people regret coming at me and also penalize ramp decks. War Cadence is amazing in multi-player Commander games. David, do you run Ruination in your deck? It really does help mono-red EDH decks keep up with the others.
Those are called Formats in Magic. But the "Unlimited" formats are called Legacy, Vintage, Commander and, some would say, Planechase. You are allowed to use whatever card has been printed in the game. There are a rotating format called Standard, where you are allowed to use the newest sets of the game only. This is a simplified version of the formats, you can read more about them on the Magic website.
Can't cast Berserk on damage, it says it must be cast before the combat step so after you declare attackers you can't cast the spell anymore. Also, deck power level was obviously not being considered for this game. Jaya can't turn 3 or 4 someone, and has very limited interaction by comparison to Golgari Scavenge. I like both decks, but would not have played 4 games against a deck that completely out performs against my deck.
21:35 He didn't have enough remaining mana, he still needed 1 more black didn't he? I mean, he had it open, but never tapped the card, though he didn't use it before his next turn so meh.
28:21 glenn should have taken 3 from mana crypt but he only took one when he rolled an even when it hurt him....damn cheater, lol. just kidding but sometimes them cheating can be a little annoying to my ocd.
Too powerful. His videos with Danny West are so fun to watch because they are having fun. A deck full of tutors and redundant ways to build a turn 3 kill... If that's fun, he should just play TES or ANT.
This game is a prime example why EDH is a casual, group format, where combos, infect, Sorin Markov's -2 and other degenerate things ought to be banned. In the end, it is the player's choice to be a dickweed or not...
Why would you want commander to be a competitive format? Standard, legacy, modern, and vintage all fill that role. Commander is about fun interaction and multiplayer fun, not lock down or combo. Playing competitive is fun, but for competitive formats.
It's just a powerlevel mismatch, nothing else. It's not always easy to get all the Commander decks on an even powerlevel, especially if you don't play against each other regularly.
Sol ring should be banned, the amount of times i've sol ringed into charcoal diamond....turn 3 Prossh anyone? Oh look a dark ritual, guess i get to play din of the fire herd next turn. And people thought Glen was a villain.
For me, one of the draws of the format is that you can play some silly cards that are banned in other popular formats (Modern, Legacy), another one is the concept of "big mana - big spells". If you take the "big mana" away, you might aswell play Modern, where every spells that costs more than 3 mana better be (potentially) game winning/deciding to make the cut. I'm not bashing Modern, it's my favorite format, but I wouldn't want to play Commander without some silly cards.
I just don't like the fact that it's always an auto include in any edh deck. And playing it in your first few turns is such a consistent and big advantage. But eh, you can still win, it just feels like you've taken a mulligan if your opponent has one and you don't.
Joel Turley I get your point, if we're dueling then why not use a ruleset designed more for it. That said we'd probably have to make other changes too. My burning dislike for sol ring has settled down into a quiet sigh now though and I realize that not liking a card doesn't mean it should be banned.
Even though Glen is a better player, he's not as fun to watch as Danny West. Also, the match would have been more interesting if the decks were more evenly matched. And it's annoying how every time Glen puts a card into play he flicks the corner. That would bug me if I was playing him.
Geez...david was hella salty about losing. Dont get me wrong, I like his videos, but I dont get how he can complain about tutors and combos when he plays a storm deck.
plattbonnay Glen's deck was hell lot more competetive than Darby's, as said before, tutoring the same 5 cards in every game to turn-3-kill is definitely not what David and this show had in mind when making videos of this casual format
I definitely agree that Glen's deck was more competitive in this 1v1 setting, but it wouldnt be that way in a multi-opponent setting (as they said). My issue with it is that David was fairly whiny throughout the video and seemed pretty rude at times in regards to the the power mismatch, which is just a fact of the format. Sometimes you sit down at a table with a moderately powerful deck and someone else pulls out a deck that is significantly stronger or significantly weaker, you cant do anything about that other than shuffle up a different deck and play again or walk away. Theoretically it could be a learning experience, if you are looking to better your deck, but I digress. All I am trying to say is that it should definitely not be a time for you to demonstrate how salty you can be about a losing a few rounds of magic.
Yeah but this was expected to be a 1v1 game from the beginning, although I know what you mean, my brother has Zurgo deck that is similar in this way(many general-damage-based commanders are). But even so, some people here say that he actually took it with a fair coolness despite the obvious and enormous gap in power level and in a way I agree. I think you're just reading too much into his behaviour, he's snarky/cheeky like this in almost all the videos, I think its just the way he is and is a part of his charm, actually.
About halfway through I stopped watching to be entertained and started watching to be outraged at Glenn's stupid, stupid deck. Tutor the same five cards every game, what fun.
David is being polite, but it's really obvious he isn't having fun. Neither would I against that deck.
This deck is probably why Glenn Jones didn't come back for any other Commander Versus videos. I love when McDarby gets super-snarky about this turbo-infect-tutor contraption.
G: He's Varolz. He's a troll warrior.
D: He's very trolly.

I feel like David was just a little miffed at that comboish deck, Berserk Varolz
Keep on posting guys! I don't play anything other than Commander and occasionally Modern these days, so its always fun to see what creative decks show up when McDarby makes a video. Thanks for the videos!
Hey guys! You know this friendly, casual format? Well I've made a deck that does the exact same thing every game with no variation or imagination, all so I can win as fast as possible in this friendly, casual format!
love those, it's fun for the whole table, can play it for hours... yeey
Sarcasm mate, do you know it? :)
this was really depressing to watch, especially because I hate infect. I miss Mcdarby.
Green suns zenith should uave been shuffled back into the deck
kinda wish infect wasnt allowed in such a casual format..:/
*****
No, it wasn't. There have always been different win cons in Magic besides life totals and those are totally fine.
at 30:09 David should have killed Scavenging Ooze while Glen's Beast Within was still on the stack so Glen couldn't exile his Myr Battlesphere. Not that it really mattered with the huge mismatch in decks.
Why didn't the green sun zenith get shuffled back in after searching up the dryad arbor?
Game 3 On attacking "Goblin Welder" Why don't use " Windswept Heath" to" Dryad Arbor" to block and kill ?
Danny West is so much better...
The bg is realy good!
Very creative stuff by Glenn. Nice synergy between Varolz, a dead Death's Shadow, and infect creatures.
After seeing game 2, I take it all back! Too many tutors! Get outta here!
***** Not creative at all. It is literally every Varolz deck ever.
Celine Turner Can't say I've seen any other Varolz decks, but mad tutoring makes a deck uncreative, redundant, and boring.
It's supposed to make them more consistent, but it makes every game the same.
That first game was ridiculous! Basically Magic-Porn for a newer Commander player like me.
Varolz is so epic. He is fun to play, fun to play against (sometimes), and he is not overpowered because only a handful of cards in magic work extremely well with him! And if someone kills him, then you are screwed haha. So balanced!
Wow! 3 mana commander with an op passive ability and a regenerate to further bring out his passive! So fun to play against. Yeah... No
I have a varolz deck but its not infect its more centered around the graveyard I have a dredge centric deck its not bad after testing it
I run Kazuul for my mono-red EDH deck. Lots of ways to make people regret coming at me and also penalize ramp decks. War Cadence is amazing in multi-player Commander games. David, do you run Ruination in your deck? It really does help mono-red EDH decks keep up with the others.
"Games dont take very long, Im having tons..of..fun, he he...." Haha your a trip Dsvid McDarby. #smokinonthatdavidmcdarby
In game one Glenn put his Zenith in the yard rather than in the library!
...hope I am not the only one who noticed Glenn forgot to shuffle Green Sun back into his library.
so in magic... are you only allowed to use cards of a set or is there a unlimited version where you may use whichever cards you please?
Those are called Formats in Magic.
But the "Unlimited" formats are called Legacy, Vintage, Commander and, some would say, Planechase. You are allowed to use whatever card has been printed in the game.
There are a rotating format called Standard, where you are allowed to use the newest sets of the game only.

Uggg Glens deck is just the kind of deck that makes your friends not want to play commander with you,
Could you guys do a King Macar, the Gold-Cursed deck? The flavor and things to do with it could be fun and interesting...
is that Riven on Jaya's artwork?
that would be totally sick
McDarby v a real commander deck
Mmmm. That was painful. You could feel the salt from how Darby was talking.
Green sun on graveyard...
i might be an idiot, but every time i see the old reflecting pool art, the first thing i think is "why are they playing henge of ramos"
Darby got his behind handed to him
In game one Glenn forgot to shuffle the green sun zenith into the library
21:35 He didn't have enough remaining mana, he still needed 1 more black didn't he? I mean, he had it open, but never tapped the card, though he didn't use it before his next turn so meh.

How does one simply play a misty rain forest in a black green commander deck? Thats not allowed because its blue right?
***** It's not flavorful though. I don't do it on principle.
good to see McDarby lose once in a while, take him down a few notches
Has chaos ward, doesn't play it to get rid off the Voltron-commander.
Green sun zenith got shuffled back
Here is a suggestion: Play the 1v1 Banlist if you play 1v1. There is a reason why solring is banned for 1v1. Still enjoy watching this btw!
I love gleens decks, I can finally finish my voralz deck.
Too powerful. His videos with Danny West are so fun to watch because they are having fun. A deck full of tutors and redundant ways to build a turn 3 kill... If that's fun, he should just play TES or ANT.
Yeah it clearly shows how powerful decks can be in EDH but i prefer strong consistent decks. Its just a preference thing.
nothing against players who want to have fun, since fun is subjective.
Wouldn't be too strong in multiplayer and bunch of those cards are banned in competitive duel commander.
I'll bet Glenn Jones wasn't invited back after this.
Infect in commander. Fun. Just kidding.
those are some tricked out decks
Green sun's zenith in the graveyard early game. ...oof!
instead of using commander darby should have kept the card and use it in response of berserk
This game is a prime example why EDH is a casual, group format, where combos, infect, Sorin Markov's -2 and other degenerate things ought to be banned. In the end, it is the player's choice to be a dickweed or not...
Glenn cheated in the first game he didn't shuffle his green sun into his library.
unfair mach up, commander can be competitive as well stop complaining
Why would you want commander to be a competitive format? Standard, legacy, modern, and vintage all fill that role. Commander is about fun interaction and multiplayer fun, not lock down or combo. Playing competitive is fun, but for competitive formats.
If i want to play combo on commander? Fnm will be also in commander.
Bte in my city tehre are some people that like palying competitive, so i had to get on their level
no shuffle the green sun cenit
Glenn's deck is obnoxious. Please don't invite him back.
It's just a powerlevel mismatch, nothing else. It's not always easy to get all the Commander decks on an even powerlevel, especially if you don't play against each other regularly.

Bryn Morgan Then play french

Salty David

First
This had to be one of the most boring commander game I have seen on here.
