  • Three large winter storms in the past week have demolished the pristine beaches of Montauk, New York. A beach mobilization was set to start this week. The federal Army Corps of Engineers, which is funding the project, calls it a temporary solution to sea level rise and beach erosion. The Montauk portion was previously scheduled for late 2025, but the East Hampton Town Board pressed the Army Corps to bolster the beach sooner. The Montauk portion is now scheduled to be completed this winter.

I'm really curious to see if that "Fire Island to Montauk Point" beach replenishment project (which calls for replenishment every four years!) will actually last more than one season of winter storms.
