That's what life is about....Beautiful music, beautiful voices, brotherhood, peace, tolerance........Have we forgotten? Today's life is about wars, money, destruction, famine....................Sorry, definitely not my life...........
@@r.bernonensis5772 Perhaps, but Dowland, I feel, deserves far more recognition. And yes, when the chips are down, I would happily stand by my statement.
@@Alun49 Well, of course there's no denying that Dowland deserves more recognition, but as a keyboard player, I have a prejudice in favor of Byrd; his contrapuntal work is more satisfying to play than Dowland, certainly more complex than that of Bull or Phillips, and strongly reminiscent of the work of Cabezon. In addition, I believe his influence can be seen in Sweelinck and through him, in Scheidemann and Weckmann. So, is either Dowland or Byrd the greatest? It may be too close to call, but I'm getting outta this conversation before the Elgar people start showing up.
Just stunning, and what an achievement by social-distanced performance!! Wonderful to see what's possible from Doha (and in some cases around the world!) when such great musicians get together to conquer Covid-19! (Great to see my friends Joris Laenen - organ - and Jenny Taynen -soprano - in brilliant form for one of my favourite pieces!). Looking forward to post-Corona era when the full concert can happen after all!
This is amazing! A great piece of music played brilliantly and a video that is put together so well. The build up from the beginning to the full ensemble joining in is beautiful! Thanks to you all.
Without prejudice to the beautiful performance, but seeing the various musicians each recording at home in a few years we will talk about the new musical genre of the 20s of the century, the "pandemic music"
Wow :) What a great arangemnent of this georgeous song. Thank guys, for your effort. This is amazing. One of the bes versions on the internet :) Why, so little views???
What can I say? One of my favorite composers is a man who wrote music more than four centuries before I was born. Sometimes that even seems odd to me, but I'd far rather listen to Dowland than Brahms or Beethoven.
Anyone seeing this comment... Why is the valved brass instrument not shown? There is no way those runs were done with a slide. I'm guessing the track was performed with a trumpet, and then videoed with a slide 'trumpet'? (definitely not a trombone)
I can’t find anything by that name (cornetto) that even closely resembles the trumpet/cornet ranged slide instrument used in the video. Do you know if the track was laid with a slide instrument or a valved instrument?
What a pure joy to hear how you all remotely pulled this off - with such musicality!!! Hearing this made my night!! Bravi and thank you.

Mit Frieden ist kein Geld zu verdienen und Macht ist auch dann auch nicht gefragt.
Live was always going on with wars
England's greatest composer. A wonderful arrangement and performance.
Purcell, Byrd and Tallis would like a word with you.

@@r.bernonensis5772 I do have a prejudice towards lute music, I admit. Each to his own! 🙂

Great idea & realization, thanks a lot for sharing! BTW your horn blows in a really noble sound, dear Mr. Cornetto-Man!
Thank you :)
Sehr schön :-)

Who is the dummy that didn’t like this? I love it! Such talent and musicianship!
We'll never know in a post-dislike world.
I don't like it very much. Too noisy, bombastic, and the rhythmic elements are not clear enough IMO.

@@editionprimavista4937We've come a long way since the Renaissance. (Judging by your remarks, not in a good way.)

The trumpet looks incredibly similar to the sackbut
What is the instrument the guy in the white flower shirt is playing?
I am playing the cornetto.
Doha Choir? new capital of UK?
very nice (despite the modern instruments)
Most people play this on guitar anyway. It is way too hard to get a clavichord, lute, or baroque cello or violin.
Either ancient music sounds more modern than we appreciate, or John Dowland is Marty McFly?

So where's the text?
Is the soprano soloist in the first verse using period pronunciation?
