As a Hot Shots Golf fan I quickly picked this game up after it was announced on the eShop. After spending a week with it, I will say that at its core it is a HSG game. So if you are craving for a good triple tap golf game like what the HSG and older Mario Golf games are know for, this should satisfy your itch. But the closer you look, especially for fans of the series, you'll unfortunately notice that there are features missing from this game that I wish were present. I go into this more towards the end.
Gameplay loop is what you would expect from the HSG games: you basically grind out rounds of golf to unlock new courses, characters, and outfits. The main gimmick with this game is that instead of using one character to play a round of golf, you are using your entire character roster, with one character playing only one hole in a round. This creates a situation where you have to set your lineup of characters and choose who gets to play which hole before starting a round. At the very least, I think this gimmick is interesting since it basically forces your to engage with all of the game's characters, as opposed to just constantly picking your favorite character and ignoring everyone else.
However, I will say that this game unfortunately doesn't feel as polished like the mainline HSG games for a multitude of "small" things that pile up. Each course only has 9 holes, as opposed to a full 18. Courses don't have their own music track to them like in the older games, so you'll be playing your rounds in silence. Except for the caddies, the all characters you play are not voiced. Aside from preset outfits and color swaps, there is no character customization. This also means that there is no equipment loadout options in this game, where in previous games you are able to choose your club & ball based on what stats you wanted to strengthen for a given character. And there is no shot recorder, so all of your best shots are not going to be saved where you can re-watch them again later.
All in all I'm still enjoying my time with this game, since this and PGA 2K21 are the only recent games that have been satisfying a golf game itch that the Mario Golf series hasn't been able to do since TT. I just wish that this game had more of what we have come to expect from the HSG series. Hopefully they keep supporting this game, and someone gives them a budget to make a full featured game in the future.
In the little details, I do not see a way to make a "power" shot or a "blue" shot. Is that possible on this game? Any chance to retro burn the grass into the hole? ;-) Somehow my favorite part of the game, as it happens very rarely...
Forcing me to play as all characters is annoying but no music during play is a no go for me....I have hot shots on PSP & Vita...I'll just play those or Mario Golf 3DS, which has 16 courses.
No character creation, no music, no buy. Horrible port of a mobile game. Get Nintendo Switch Sports instead.
This was announced on the Japanese 9.13.22 Nintendo direct but not the American one... No wonder it took me forever before I realized it was ported to switch!
Happy this was released. Basically the same game that is on the Apple Arcade but that cost $5 a month and this is $20 to own. Will definitely be picking this up soon. Been playing a lot of Hot Shots Golf on PS2 lately.

Just can't justify playing a mobile port on console... When I saw Clap Hanz I was reminded of Hot Shots Open Tee for the psp but this just doesn't look or feel the same.

Stop giving bad suggestions in the comments. Easy Come Easy Golf beats Mario Golf Super Rush in pretty much every way that really matters, and it's only 1/3 the price. There's a lot more depth to the gameplay in ECEG, and that depth is directly tied to the fundamentals of golf rather than being based on mindless gimmicks like changing the position of the ball while it's in the air. By the way, there's more content too, content that really matters, as most of Mario Golf Super Rush's extras are awful, like the adventure mode which is unplayable, or the battle mode which is so unbalanced it doesn't even make sense.
To be honest, both Super Rush and easy come easy golf are pretty bad games.
The later is good on mobile though.
Absolutely no challenge at all in this game. Its way to easy..Nice little game indeed but no challenge for a master of golf games like me
