Not sure how this is even a video. The best gaming console is the one that plays the games you want to play. Just like the best camera is the one that you have on you.
Most ppl buy a switch to play Nintendo First Party Games. I don’t see Smash Bros or Metroid coming to the App Store anytime soon. A comparison to the Steam Deck would be more interesting.

I’ve got both. Though you make some valid points about iPad versatility the Switch is far less cumbersome to use and superior for mobile gaming than the iPad. Also the switches do have built in Ethernet on the OLED models. If you want to play indie or retro games at all the switch is the only option along with first party games. You can load dolphin onto an iPad and play things like wii games but it’s still very limiting when Nintendo is now offering retro counsel games that are constantly being added.
No sir…. I wholly disagree. I have a switch and ipad mini 5. Apple newer devices are a beast when it comes to handling games and are equipped to enter the gaming market but the games available right now are so so so lacking and disappointing. Majority of mobile games suck and are cash grabs. Of course there are some nice ports here and there but you are still giving up so much in terms of options if u go for the mini. Also the Ipad mini is very much designed for handheld gaming. Same with the switch because the screens are so small and your limited to how far you can sit away from the device. The immersion is best felt when you holding it in your hands closer to you. I like to use my ipad mini similar to a switch too because when I get home I like to hook up my mini to my tv with an hdmi and use my 8 bitdo controller with it. This is the same way I use my switch in dock mode. Another thing is the ergonomics. Holding my switch and especially my mini for longer gaming sessions get so uncomfortable. With the switch, I resolved this buy getting a grip - love the satisfye grip. However with the ipad mini, there is no market for the gaming accessories like that. I did buy a grip recently for it from amazon just the joystick grips for ergonomics and none of them look nice. The one with controller input are around $50 or more. Which leads to the next issue. You have to spend $500 dollars on top of accessories that could run near $100 just enjoy a fun gaming experience similar to a switch. (hdmi adapter, controller). The switch simply is not beat by the mini at least not yet. The true contender is the new steam device coming soon. Now that is a contender. The new mini 6 does have a lot of offer but its just not there yet… please do NOT buy it if you like console games. I am getting the Ipad mini 6 soon and I already know I will love it but It will not be replacing my switch any time soon.
I suspect you commented before watching the video. The App Store games are only a small component. iPad mini 6 has a better display, more/better controllers are supported, better connectivity options, and tons of games via the App Store, Apple Arcade, game streaming services (Luna, Netflix, xCloud), and remote play solutions (PlayStation Remote Play, Moonlight, Steam Link). No other console has this wide variety of gaming options and great hardware.
@@AppleInsider No I watched the full video lol. I just strongly strongly disagree. Ill admit I can’t comment on is the remote play like how you mentioned the ps4 remote set up and I am certain that it gives the mini an edge. However the argument I have is the controller set up isn’t that enjoyable of an experience because the screen is so small. It is the same gripe I have for the switch but nintendo knows that and has the dock for that. And the market for side by side controllers like the switch is very lacking for the mini. Another issue is that 3rd party controllers will sometimes have compatibility issues with games etc. Developers also may mapped the inputs weirdly too. But don’t get me wrong, I love my mini. It is my goto for all handheld entertainment but I find calling it a on the level of switch a little too gracious. 🤌
Idk why just iPad tho, I can do all that on my Tab S7+. Maybe cause it's smaller and more portable? The switch also has Bluetooth for your earbuds and honestly, switch games are way better than what any app store can provide. Cloud gaming on the other hand is a big seller, but again that's another monthly fee for a game you'll never keep. Mobile gaming is very tricky, but if your honestly interested I'd suggest the new stem deck. I'm not saying the IPad or tablets aren't worth it, hell most games run and feel amazing on this tablet, but having both the Switch OLED and Tab S7+ I still game more on my switch. I've tried all streaming services except the PSNow one, cause that one is only on PC. Look if u want portability and great graphics and have good internet, by alll means try cloud gaming, it's pretty mind blowing. If you want portable gaming without an internet connection, the Switch or stem deck are a must. Like he said there's a gamer for every genre, I can't tell y what's better cause I may game differently. Great video btw and have a good day gamers.
to me an ipad mini is not as good as the switch because although you can game stream xcloud, you need a good internet connection and even if you have a good internet its still not great. resolution isnt too great(itll run at 720p or 1080p but theres a lot of blurring with high motion). i dont consider the app store games(including apple arcade) comparable to full on games on the nintendo switch, especially first party titles. the value that nintendo titles bring is a LOT. the ipad mini is much more a media consumption device first, gaming device second. and on top of that i can stream games on my phone. altho the ipad mini screen is bigger, its not worth that much extra cost, especially compared to the switch. also hooking up the ipad mini to a tv SUCKS. it has black borders, if you use airplay its low res and has a lot latency. there are also adapters that allow you to use any controller you want with the switch.
The Nintendo switch is wayyyyyyyy under power iPad is way more powerful than the Nintendo switch plus it has a better graphics than the Nintendo and a much better display lol 😂 the Nintendo fan boys are going to defend their under power cheap switch no matter what

Just to add in 2022, some premium games are already on iPad that would normally be reserved for "true consoles". Gunfire Reborn, Dead Cells, Dystmantle, Divinity Origina Sin 2, Minecraft (which works better on the iPad than on the Switch), White Day, Night in the Woods, random stuff by Square Enix, Octopath Traveler (different, but still good), Hyperlight Drifter, My Time at Portia, Bendy and the Ink Machine, Streets of Rage 4, Swords of Ditto, Pascal’s Wager, all good games on iPad.
It’s hard to advise portable gaming based on streaming and cloud solutions. It requires a stable and decent internet connection. Nintendo has over 4000 titles you can download on the eShop and play offline. With all the money you saved on not buying an IPad Mini to game on, you can pick up 4 full price titles right away. You knocked Nintendo for the joycons but praised the iPad for controllers Apple doesn’t make. There are plenty quality controllers available for the switch. Strongly disagree with your take on this one
U can emulate all the consoles upto GameCube and wii on the mini 6. U can't on the switch. And u don't even need to buy the games. That beats the switch.
Different things for different people. How many Switch games have you purchased? The big titles are $65 after tax. That is an entire year of Apple Arcade, just for the price of 1 Switch game. This obviously isn't for everyone, but if you *DO* have good internet (Obviously... no crap) and Xbox GP or a PS5 or Steam already, this is perfect for those people. On top of that, you get all the countless free games and a year of Apple Arcade for the cost of a single Switch game. Again, not for everybody, but neither is the Switch. That is why we call them opinions. Something that is great for him, and is great for many others, won't be great for you, and many others.
I have the iPad mini 6 and I do use it to play some games. Getting a switch in a few days. I love Apple and I’m locked into the ecosystem but the switch is better for games. It’s not even debatable. Even the Nintendo games that came to mobile are weak, watered down versions of the games you can get on a Nintendo switch.
If you want to game on iPad, you need the larger storage option, the 64gb base model just isn’t enough especially if you want to do more with your iPad than just game. That makes it way too expensive to have it as a serious contender as a gaming machine. The iPad is a tablet computer first. You’re buying it to read emails, browse the web, consume content etc. Saying you can use GeForce now or steam link etc isn’t a selling point for iPad in the way that note taking is. I know I could use these services if I wanted, but I’d rather game on my switch as I know that’s a gaming machine first
You sold me one of these and I wasn't even in the market for a tablet to game on 🤣 I wanted one to draw on. But I do love gaming and find it increasing difficult to find the time so once I saw this review it was a huge bonus and sealed the deal on the iPad mini for me. I found them brand new for £395 (about $460, usually they're around $560 for the 64gb one here!) And took the plunge. Awesome review, thanks man.
I just got Apple Arcade and love Iphone gaming so much now that I bought this Ipad Mini and a Backbone One for my Iphone lol. I can't believe there are such good games on the App store, and Apple Arcade.

I’m the ultimate Apple fanboy but even I have to admit that anything but casual gaming on either the iPad or the Mac just isn’t there yet. And may NEVER get there. Why? The most fantastic specs in the world do nothing if the software isn’t there. And Apple clearly doesn’t give a sh*t about gaming on iPads or Macs. Until I can play the same AAA games I can play on a console on my iPad or my Mac, I’ll still be stuck gaming on either a cheap-o PC purchased exclusively for gaming or on a dedicated gaming console. All of which is a real shame since the new iPads and Macs blow the doors off their competition in specs and in software developed by Apple and its trusted/supported partners. It’s long past time for Apple to either spend some of the $$$ they have in the bank to buy an established gaming software house (one of the biggies), go into a supported partnership with one or several of them, or just fund a development team themselves. Although, if Apple Arcade represents Apple’s vision for gaming, maybe they should forget in-house development. I pay for Apple Arcade as part of an Apple One bundle and have yet to find a single game worth spending my valuable time playing. Come on, Apple; get with the program already. Stop leaving us with devices that-with respect to gaming-have a million dollars worth of promise worth 2 cents on delivery!
I have a iPad Pro M4 and it is amazing. Games are great. Here is my favorite games. GTA definitive edition & China Wars/liberty city and Bully Final Fantasy 1-9 Divinity Sin 2 XCOM 2 Civi 6 NBA 2K24 arcade edition Warzone ( runs amazing on M4) Oceanhorn 1&2 Tropico Hitman AC mirage AC new game that is coming RE8&4 and another one is coming out. Minecraft Let’s not forget now they allow emulators like Retro so any DS/GBA etc. I can go on and on bout the games and everyone of those games have full controller support and some with Keyboard and mouse support, which is great with Magic Keyboard. Developers that drop 3 party games on the Switch should release them on IPad cause it would look and run better and probably sell better. It is way better than the switch. You even got Mario Kart on IPad.
Ita debatable. Z fold 3 is there as well, with the gorgeous 120hz display absent in this mini, Also its not portable like the fold. You cannot carry it in your pocket. I would buy a fold instead of buying iphone and ipad mini separately. Considering Samsung care is there, its massive value for money
Gaming on my Fold 2 is not that great for gaming especially FPS shooters. The screen is not smooth and the aspect ratio is off and it just look over enlarged with some games. I’m digging the Mini plus its lighter

This is clearly a biased review. You clearly have something against Nintendo. I have both devices and am a fan of both Apple and Nintendo. I would accurately say that they’re different platforms for different purposes. Nintendo has a lot of the best games that the industry has ever seen with a vast library of triple A games, both 1st and 3rd party. It has official controllers with HD rumble, arcade sticks, steering wheels and an abundance of 3rd party controllers including Hori and 8bitdo. It’s a true console and sports an OLED display with Bluetooth headsets. You will not get the same gaming experience on an iPad full stop. This is a dedicated gaming platform and also has tons of Japanese games too, as well as their retro libraries with replica retro controllers. Not to mention Neo Geo too. The iPad is a wonderful casual gaming machine, but doesn’t have official controllers. It must be used on a table - you can’t comfortably play it in a train or bus. The digital controls are cumbersome too. Also the streaming of Steam, Xbox and PlayStation services suffers lag and you need an internet connection, something that is useless while travelling. Apple Arcade has substandard games and can’t even hold up to Mario Odyssey, Zelda, Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Street Fighter, etc. Outside of that, most games need a subscription and are prone to being erased or not supported in the future. I lost tons of money on games and apps that I realised I don’t actually own, even though I paid for them. It’s a rip off in the long term. We don’t need fast WiFi for Switch games, I don’t get lag issues and I own all 620+ of my games. I can choose whatever controller I want, even Ring Fit or Nintendo Labo. I have all my Japanese fighting games, as well as Witcher III, Bayonetta 2, killer RPGs and more. They’re all native are upscaled from 1080p with my TV anyway, especially when using an AudioQuest HDMI cable. Your review is unprofessionally biased towards Apple and an distrustful disgrace to journalism.
Your comment is unprofessionally biased too. lol. Obviously, Nintendo will have better games. They also cost $60... How much did you pay in total for your 620+ games huh? Many people don't have that kind of money. "Apple Arcade has substandard games and can't even hold up to Mario Odyssey, Zelda, Smash Bros, Mario Kart." Ummmmm no crap... You are paying $5 a month. For just *ONE* of those games you mentioned, you can get every game on Apple Arcade for an entire year. If you truly have bought 620+ games, that is $6,200 if they averaged only $10 apiece. I am sure they averaged more than $10 a piece though, and many that are less, are NOT as good as many of the Apple Arcade games. So, for a miniscule fraction of the cost, you have the Ipad here. Obviously the Switch is great for games... That. Is. What. It. Was. Built. For. This would be for more casual fans who want an Ipad for other purposes as well.
I have an ipad pro with 120hz and when i had a look at mini 6 at the apple store it felt choppy. once you get used to promotion, you cannot go back to 60hz
Why everyone jumping on 120hz all of a sudden? Apple never gave that to us on any of their popular devices and people never complained even when Androids had it years ago? How many generations until iphone got it then all of a sudden you must have it? If it don’t cost $1000+ it won’t get the 120hz….so so Apple lol
At 8:35 you hit it on the head. If you want Nintendo exclusives, you will pay. Don't get me wrong, my friends say I never miss an opportunity to shht on Nintendo, which is true... That said, I own a Switch because I want to play Zelda and Mario. It is what it is. For nostalgic cartoon games, sure a dockable handheld with poor performance is OK. But once we start talking about the latest graphics demanding games, skip the handheld and just give me a PS5 or XBOX(for the same price as an iPad mini).
How can u make a video about gaming on ipad and not talk about emulation. That's the main aspect in which ipad outperforms the switch. If u r not into emulation. Switch is a better gaming device.
I’ve had 4 iPad minis. All bought on Black Friday for ~$300 or lower. But with not so great deals like store credit. This is the first BF that I’m not seeing any deals for the latest iPad mini.
Your reviews have gotten so much better though the years! I love these types of videos where a tech reviewer genuinely feels a sort of way about a piece of tech and tries to sell their audience on this way of utilization. It’s less transactional and more authentic.
I have to disagree with the author. I am not a nintendo nor an apple fan boy, and really I think that iPad Mini is a better device in general. But I can't see why iPad Mini is a better or even the best gaming device than a real gaming console Nintendo Switch. I can give iPad Mini a point for screen - high pixel density and big size is awesome. Yet switch oled has oled on it's side, so even that is kinda debatable. But that is one and only (mostly) clear iPad win as a gaming console. iPad has worse games in my honest opinion. It is very debatable point, especially in part of F2P vs pay in advance games. I think mobile games has very grindy meta, mostly are services (i.e. don't have any story) and absent of hardcore gameplay. Games there developed for a short attention span (because most play on their phone) which blocks any idea of having a deep meaningful content. Also these games are made for iPhone first, and iPad second, they can have aspect ratio problems. All this points could be reversed from minus to plus, or at least negligible for some people. But I showed you why mobile games are worse than a console ones. And it includes Apple Arcade games. As of the Premium iPad games that exist in PC\Other consoles - they are good, but most of them requires a controller for the comprehensive gaming experience. Also there isn't a lot of them. So okay, let's go in terms of the controls. There're some games that can be transitioned good to touch controls, but it is mostly reserved for card games or turn based rpgs. I can imagine CIV 6 with some reinterpretation can be usable there. Other than that - games introduce on screen virtual controller, and it sucks. Especially if it is a port from other console. I think when you take a controller in your hands, you fail using iPad in a right way, especially iPad Mini! The screen is too small. Just use your tv then. Wireless connection with TV is too laggy (you are also using a bluetooth controller), and wired connection requires more hustle than putting nintendo switch into the dock. Also I think iPad here is kinda wasting it's potential, just streaming controller signal into TV screen. Adding that there's not a lot of games that are supporting a controller, you are loosing a lot here with iPad, not Switch. Joycons in switch are good. Probably just "good enough". Yeah joycon drift is a thing, but don't overblow the problem. It is not a plague that haunts all joycon controllers. Also there's options that don't have drift. If we are talking of buying a controller and type-c to HDMI cable, we can talk about buying third-party stuff for switch too. But the most important part is that joycons can be connected to the switch's body, giving you an awesome handheld experience. So for the controls there's a clear winner - Nintendo switch. Price is the fourth punch to the idea that iPad mini is the best portable console. Switch is a way cheaper device than iPad Mini. Adding that you'll need additional stuff for your iPad to work properly doesn't help it float. So yeah, Nintendo Switch is far better gaming console. You know why? because it is a gaming console, not a tablet! May be you've trolled me into writing all this words and letters... :)
Now for the iPad redemption. I love the device. First tell you about it non gaming goodies, and then all about the gaming. It has a good screen, intuitive controls for OS, multitasking. iPad aspect ratio is way comfortable than iPhone's. It brings good feelings holding it in the hand, comfortable for hours, especially compared to a bigger iPad. For me iPad mini is the best iPad or a tablet in general. You can draw on it, it has a good wifi chip, a powerful CPU. So yeah all good here. As of gaming, first of all - mobile gaming, as it is the easiest one here. If you love playing mobile games, the iPad mini is one of the best options. Because the screen is nice and big, but not too big to have game controls unwieldy. It is truly an awesome gaming machine in that sense. Again I don't think that mobile gaming is the best thing we have. One omission here that I've found is that iPad doesn't have a haptic feedback. So you're bored with just mobile gaming, what we can do to advance our gaming? I can suggest using a controller, but not any plain controller here, you should either attach controller to the iPad via plastic clip, or using telescopic controller (which is better in terms of comfort). That way you are making iPad as a truly handheld gaming device. Use it with a premium multiplatform game such as Dead cells or Stardew valley and this is a good start! But lets move deeper. The deepest move in my opinion is to stream your games to an iPad. You'll probably need your (telescopic) controller. You'll probably need a good internet connection. I hate cloud gaming, but local streaming is purely awesome! That opens doors for PC, Playstation or Xbox streaming, for thousands of games there. Combination of the connected controller and local streaming makes it a totally awesome gaming console. With few caviats - you'll need your real consoles to be streaming from, and you'll need to buy good controller. I highly advice stream games locally to your iPad mini, it is one of the rare occasions where it's just works, and all parts are the best for this task. Is it better than Logitech G Cloud? Probably yeah. It could be one of the best gaming consoles. But it needs work and tinkering to do it
your "5 min" didn´t convince. no. who´s streaming games from pc when it´s next too me? on the go? no, I can´t stand that lag. where are all those indie games on ipad which make the switch so unique?? not even talking about nintendo 1st party. ipad has a better screen? you should see switch OLED bruh...
Did you watch the video? Between native apps, remote play options, and game streaming services, iPad mini has the largest collection of games around. Not to mention a better display, more controller support, better connectivity, and more. Sure, App Store games aren’t as verbose, but they’re only part of the equation

@@silksong7277 dude iPad is way better than the UNDER POWER SWITCH in every way
Idk why just iPad tho, I can do all that on my Tab S7+.
The Nintendo switch is wayyyyyyyy under power iPad is way more powerful than the Nintendo switch plus it has a better graphics than the Nintendo and a much better display lol 😂 the Nintendo fan boys are going to defend their under power cheap switch no matter what
@@tyone50able and the apple fanboys will defend apple. what good is a great screen and a ton of power when theres no good use for it(in terms of gaming). honestly the switch and the ipad mini shouldnt be compared, theyre in two totally different categories, and made for two different purposes. and although the ipad has better resolution, the oled switch(which is still much cheaper than an ipad mini) has a MUCH better screen in terms of colors and vibrancy

Steam Deck is what I’m waiting for but in the mean time Ipad Mini is my go to portable gaming.
Ah yes the superior gaming console with such amazing games like “crossy road” and “candy crush” and don’t forget “homescapes” 😂
and pubg gta san Andreas and call of duty
Your Dunning Kruger is showing.
Even the Nintendo games that came to mobile are weak, watered down versions of the games you can get on a Nintendo switch.
apple must buy nintendo, honestly they must get into the gaming market seriously and buying nintendo would make Sony and Microsoft shit their undies
Only issue is the 256gb of storage which is really limited if you want to use it as a gaming device
Why there’s no sound when im using a wired game controller on my ipad pro 2018 playing an app game?
on controller options you also forgot to mention the Apple Pencil. i use it for casual games like Fruit Ninja and Galaga lol
If you are a free to play gamer. Quality games like Genshin Impact, LOL Wild Rift, COD Mobile. I think Ipad is a better gaming device for you.
Is there a 3 in 1 charger that includes magsafe for AirPods Pro?
I’m trying to find which one I should get ??
I would believe it if there was a guide on the web that showed how to load AAA title games locally

I just got Apple Arcade and love Iphone gaming so much now that I bought this Ipad Mini and a Backbone One for my Iphone lol. I can't believe there are such good games on the App store, and Apple Arcade.
Same thing here
I can do most of that with my current smartphone. Why bother? If you have decent android phone you could potentially play switch games

Ok, but wheres Mario Kart 8, Zelda BOTW & TOTK, and a bunch of other games?
I’m very much sold on the new iPad Mini but I think I’d rather hold out for the 512GB version if one ever comes out. Thoughts on this?
You make some good points, but it would be nice if this didn't just sound like an Apple advertisement.
The fact that you referred to an iPad as a console in the title already discredits everything about to be said in the video before even pressing play.
I have a iPad Pro M4 and it is amazing. Games are great. Here is my favorite games.
GTA definitive edition & China Wars/liberty city and Bully
Final Fantasy 1-9
Divinity Sin 2
XCOM 2
Civi 6
NBA 2K24 arcade edition
Warzone ( runs amazing on M4)
Oceanhorn 1&2
Tropico
Hitman
AC mirage
AC new game that is coming
RE8&4 and another one is coming out.
Minecraft
Let’s not forget now they allow emulators like Retro so any DS/GBA etc.
The problem with mobile gaming is those disgusting microtransaction

Your review is unprofessionally biased towards Apple and an distrustful disgrace to journalism.
and multiplayer option on switch game.
If it had 120Hz display, then I'd get an iPad Mini
For that price it should of been 120hz not worth it
I have an ipad pro with 120hz and when i had a look at mini 6 at the apple store it felt choppy. once you get used to promotion, you cannot go back to 60hz
Litterly moded Nintendo switch can do everything ipad does and more you just don't know
At 8:35 you hit it on the head.
Does it run animal crossings?
7:45 Note to editor: Put a pinned disclaimer comment regarding this video being recorded BEFORE the catastrophic Remaster launch? 😁
The iPad Mini 6 is the best gaming device I've played on. Nintendo switch could never.
Ipad games need to keep paying ridiculous amounts to progress, i stick to gaming console where i only pay once for my game.
I’ve had 4 iPad minis. All bought on Black Friday for ~$300 or lower. But with not so great deals like store credit. This is the first BF that I’m not seeing any deals for the latest iPad mini.
geforce now also works on the ipad.
Your reviews have gotten so much better though the years! I love these types of videos where a tech reviewer genuinely feels a sort of way about a piece of tech and tries to sell their audience on this way of utilization. It’s less transactional and more authentic.
I believe at some point in the future Nintendo will be sold to apple
But it needs work and tinkering to do it
This is just iPad vs Nintendo
