*Time to prepare. I agree that fall flow doesn't really exist around here. I'm in Union. It's tough having queenless hives this time of the year. I've had success by adding a queen in September , but I wouldn't count on having them requeen. Good luck and keep us updated. Thanks.*
How about combining with that open air swarm/hive next door - then you would not have to move ALL of the comb below that other hive. Good luck! ❤🐝🐝 in Northern IL
We are north east of you up in Owen Co. I worried that it was too late in the year last month when one of our hives superseded the queen. She surprised me and is probably the best laying queen we have right now. When we looked in her hive this past weekend she had 6 1/2 full frames of brood.
Corn sheds pollen for 4-5 days so I really doubt that there is any pollen on corn in Kentucky or TN this time of the year. Usually late June or July you may get some corm pollen.
You have the perfect source to free up your zipper. It's WAX!!!

Hello neighbor from Owenton here

Well I would still need to move the comb because they would likely parish being open air during the Kentucky winters. Thanks for the suggestion!
When you wax your zippers with a candle it wil go much easier.

Good to know, thank you! I’m guessing it’s mostly goldenrod and wingstem. There’s goldenrod everywhere here right now.
Lubricate zipper with beeswax. Just scrape a piece down it.
Sorry about your loss of queens.
It’s all good. It happens to all of us! You just pivot and adjust to what Mother Nature gives ya!
