#roland #sh4d
Shoutout to the sound designer of this video, who is really demonstrating the range of this synth beyond the traditional sounds of each synth model.
This is going to be a great side companion to my MPC-X, not only for being controlled by MIDI, but for sampling sounds into it as a keygroup. The price point is right on target!
Me too... 12 tracks into an MPC over usb.🤪
Thank you Roland. So many models inside this machine.
I love the tones you get get from this!!! Very Silent Hillish!!!! I am definitely ordering this!!! Great job Roland!
its not often i fall in love with sounds but roland has done it with this one!
Preordered mine yesterday, can't wait until april 2023.
Great job Roland! I already ordered mine!
Thanks Roland endless fun with this one 🎉
man those filters are smooth!!!!!!
I love the UI!
I wasn’t convinced until I saw this demo 😊
i have a tr-6s. they got the virtual analog shit down these days. sounds so good.
My MC-707 & SH-4d will ROCK together!
Very good rolan. The concept of different synth models, Not just only analog Model. Bravo!!
great demo.. thank you
I had a demo/ trial and the drawing osc is amazing
Sounds great, can't wait to have a play!
I can't wait to pair this with My Synthstorm Deluge and the Boards of Deluge low-fi synth packs. Thanks for the Video good job.
another winner to sit along side my tr8s 🤘
Almost same set I used in the mid 90’s. I had the Akai s3000xl and s2000, Roland r-8 and r-8mkii, Yamaha dx-7 and a Casio cz-100
beautiful ❤
Sounds great 👍
SOLD! Can't wait.
It sounds great!
Workflow and usability has always been Roland's achilles heel - looks like that's changing now! This is their best groovebox yet, but they're trying to position it as "just a multitimbral synthesizer with five parts, plenty of onboard effects and a pretty competent sequencer" - aka a groovebox. 😉 Please Roland, finish the work on the sequencer so it supports 128 steps, microtiming and more automation lanes / parameter locks! And then just work a little on the file/save management of tones and patterns by turning them into proper projects. With just 5% more work, you will have created your best groovebox ever. 🧡
100% agreed
Sounds excellent
U did It again, thanks for not treat US like stupid, sound very very well!!
Love the jv1080 stock piano sound at 7:30!
Roland could re-release the 1080 as a sound module about the size of a USB battery pack and I'd buy it.
Nice one!!
Finally something interesting from roland after the vsynth
Four firmware petitions:
1- fix the midi over usb problem when you slave sh4D on Ableton Live and gets double tempo.
2- be able to capture external audio thru 'Mix In' instead internal mixing.
3- double the steps count per pattern from 64 to 128.
4- Increase pattern/patches memory.
Make this machine flawless, please.
Sound great!
Is it possible to cue (pre-listen) the different parts via the headphone output separately from the main output, like on the MC-707? And if not, is there a chance to add this in a software update? That would be great for live jams!
Looks like I'll be adding on to an ever growing Roland setup. Sounds great👌 any idea yet on a price guide?. Thanks for sharing👍
$650 retail is what I have read.
I was quite interested in this but not getting the respective filter models associated with each vintage model is a major bummer since this makes up a big part of what makes those sounds special to begin with :/ Would you consider fixing this in a future update?
yes so sad, i would prefer Roland to re-issue "old" machines, anyway the market is trusted by some other companies lol
Hi Roland, when is the update for the Sh4d. So much more could be done to an already top machine. Would love to be able to record pitch decay release and so on,on the drums, mix and match fm with the 4d osco
Would be great to even have Cross FM, Wavetable, and Drawing models added in the next update for Jupiter / Juno-X synths! The UI also looks like a huge improvement over what’s already on the other Zencore synths. But yeah, really digging the groove-box. Options are definitely all-in-one.
Apparently, this isn't based on Zencore or ACB. It's something totally different. I still agree with you though. Those add-ons would be great. Check out BoBeats video for this unit. That's where I found this out.
I remember hearing that from a different video too, kind of a bummer. But hopefully they can somehow do a work-around to get those add-ons.. or make some new Model Expansion.. it be even nice to have iOS programming while at it. Would be all a missed opportunity! 😫
good sound
SOLD!! I want it!!
This is like everything a moog mother 32 wanted to be but never could. AWESOME.
Very surprised by this released and very impressed by the demos I've seen already on this synth. Trying to decide whether I should sell the MC 101 for this! Either way, Roland has done a fantastic job. Wow!
£544 Is what I see its price at and that's a good price in My opinion.
Before you sell the 101, consider that the sh4d is not compatible with traditional zencore sounds, it only has about half of the PCM sounds the 101 has, it doesn't support user samples and the sequencer is not as advanced
Im pairing it with my Fantom 8and JDXI. I can put this on my desktop and not have to spin my chair around to play the Fantom. I think it will complement the JDXI pretty well, also.
True. Each has its own palette and timbre. That is why I love Roland synths.
This and the SP-404mk2. So much possiblities 😉😂‼️
404 MK2 ✅
Please add the option to make the Dmotion button another shift button. Thanks
Sounds really nice and for once on a modern Roland, I actually love the interface. It’s utilitarian but the animations look so smooth and the graphics are nice and clean. What an attractive piece of gear.
I'm curious on the amount of power this kicks out. As much as Iike the boutique juno and d-05, They had to be ran through other gear in order for them to sound bigger. Hopefully this sounds bigger without having to rely on outboard gear. And yes I know outboard gear helps.
I suspect you'd need to speak using some form of understandable consistent terminology to get an answer... I'm guessing you maybe mean volume/output power, if so I can only wonder why, since it's not meant to drive external speakers. Neither is any other synth I'm aware of. There are some synths with speakers, but they are a very different class of device, the only somewhat advanced one I can think of being the CT-S1000V but it's a totally different kind of thing. I'm not sure why that has speakers, other than that it *can* be used as a standalone thing completely should you want to take it to the park with friends and pretend it's a kids toy style thing I guess...
Sounds great but I sure wish it had dedicated volume controls for the parts. Or at least an easy way to get there - there's not even a volume menu on that row of options.
In Pattern Mode or Mixer Mode the OSC sliders become volume controls for each part. In Mixer Mode the buttons below the sliders function as Mutes.
sounds great, and interface looks waaay more user friendly than mc101 / 707. UI has been a bit of an issue with Roland gear. Great stuff
Have U advice a 101 ... I was thinking if buy one ... r they hard to work ie complicated
Have you 'm
I've come here for advise. I found a Roland MC 303 groovebox second hand. I really enjoyed it. What is the closest possible replica to that device these days?. It's finally quit on me. And I like a hardware device as opposed to a program.
3:00 perfect sound to recreate "theme from ernest borgnine" by squarepusher
Terribruell!
Troll
This is quite a good live Jam tool and the price is reasonable at around $650.
yes please...
Roland is number 1
7:00 💹✍Draw Mode (Ending: MFX = good to have!)
Are you planning to update this hardware? It would be nice to have oscillators that can be panned at stereo to make the created sounds wider.
Strumento veramente interessante per il suo prezzo
anybody chose this over the Jupiter xm ? or most love both ? i get the feeling the XM is deeper.
just trying to see if there is much between the two cheers
is it possible to get the mix-in into the usb for recording it in a DAW ?
The TR-8S and MC-707 have video manuals. Will the SH-4D have one ?
Release an SH-4Ds. Get rid of the space wasting two octave keyboard (save 2 inches). Add a Roland legacy pitch bend lever, get rid of the battery power and it'll be PERFECT. I'm buying this by the way!
Would it be possible unquantized recording in future updates?
Sold
The first Roland synth I'm even vaguely interested in, owing to it not involving the usual Roland rabbit hole of menu diving (usually on an inadequate screen). This looks a solid offering. However, those "backlit Skittles" (© Bad Gear) really suck as a keybed. I don't need physical keys, but non-key keybeds have been done so much better e.g. Sonicware ELZ_1. Also, what on earth is the deal with that missing D-flat?
Are the audio output channels balanced? The manual doesn't say.
Curious to see more detailed info on this. It looks and sounds nice. Also very much interested in the more solid appearance regarding pots than in the mc707 and tr8s series. Like more like a pro instrument like an elektron device.
It is definitely not elektron quality... Plastic body. Wobbly pots, not solid ... It might be trying to emulate the look , but it's today's typical Roland crap, it ain't Elektron...
@@tommyg5095 how do you know it's wobbly? Did you try it already?
@@ionianechoes I see it in the close-up also that it's wobbly. Looks far better than the MCs, but it's probably just the appearance sadly.
@@tommyg5095 if this were from Elektron you would pay AT LEAST double the price than this unit.
@@tommyg5095 the Jupiter XM I recently sold was extremely well built. It’s just the interface that was utter shit. I imagine this is much the same. Way too much awful menu hell.
why do you say available now but nobody has them?
Peut on faire des Stack avec un clavier externe et des zones ?
What’s the aliasing like on this one? System1 is pretty bad eventhough I love the synth
System 1 has NO aliasing , you lier. And with its powerful filter you can perform eardrum pearcing.
How many steps has the sequencer?
Is this Zen core or acb
As much as I love my Syntakt, if someone walked up to me right now and asked if I would trade my syntakt for the SH4, I’m not so sure what my answer would be anymore…
When is it again available in Germany?
Ok Roland, you need to send me one of these so I can do a demo of it please. Looks and sounds great!
HELP how to export audio files (in Garageband for example)?
6:56 Sounds like Pilotredsun : )
The SH-4d looks fun, but the MC-707 is our primary instrument and we don't have room for another box on our rig. We would love it if the XM and Wave Table synths could be added to the 707's Firmware. If not possible due to hardware limits, put them in the next-gen MC-707 ( with backwards compatibility to current gen files ).
Won't happen. Roland builds and forgets. Accept the instruments as they are. You won't get anything else.
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Roland FANTOM arp fw update........please.....it is your flagship. And mine too !!!! LOVE IT. USER ARP please ... Thanks.
This thing will be classic.
Deep House heaven
Studio/Home 4 Deep ???
There is actually one scenario in which I would buy this unit :
If it could act as a complementary MIDI controller for the Jupiter X/Xm with a firmware-built-in well made mapping that works out of the box with any of the Xm’s models😅
Even better : connect it over USB to the Xm for power and MIDI control or to get a 10 part setu.
Roland you know me, always got great ideas for your firmware developers😉🙏
Midi controller lol? This is a Sythersizor with built in easy to access editing functions.
I like my midi controllers to have at least mini keys, not buttons. But as a portable digital synth, it's clicking all the boxes. Uh oh...
@@HOLLASOUNDS I need to justify myself buying this although I already have the Xm 🤣🤣🤣
@@alexandrosroussos The answer is give me the XM! 😂
@@Pulse2AM I ended up owning both 🤷🏻♂️🤣
Is the SP404 MKII getting any new firmware updates? The TR-Mode is killer and I'm looking to pair this with it!
I wish the drums had STEP LOOP.
😥
They'll release it as a VST soon enough
Doubt that
発注してみようか、という前に試してみる。
Check out the song I made with my friend Paul with this synth! ua-cam.com/video/3-yVTkHWrZE/v-deo.html 💜
Update this thing please!
Microfreak and Elektron had a baby.
On the drawing model if you draw a cat does it sound like a cat? I think it should. 😉
sh£t yes im gonna buy one...or 2 :)
Desktop model of the XM?
Not really, maybe one day : the Jupiter8D ?
Very nice, Roland! Please tell me those are BLUE leds, not "off white". I hate being let down with boring "off white" leds...
I bet they’re white. Whenever I was posting videos of my JUPITER-Xm , someone would inevitably comment, “how did you get your buttons blue!!” Just something about the way they’re captured on video.
@@RobertSaintJohn totally! I got the same results on my Jupiter-Xm video demos!
Blue leds are so 2000's...
@Doctor Nemmo you are right, I had many synths modded with blue leds from 1997 to 2007.
After that, not many custom synthesizers can
be found decked out with
cool colored leds!
@@SynthgodXXX I want more orange leds ! Where are my green and orange leds ? And most important, where are the red leds ???
Beets crack n smack 😊
Jean Michel Jarre laugh ;-))
Good job Roland but the screen is too small
The screan is the same size as most sythersizors and groove boxes in this price range.
Sounds like the reason I just paid off my Tr-8s today and will never touch this confused instrument. Groovebox or synth- make up your mind please.
Why is Roland still using displays from 1990?
Thank God these are "premium" oscs, according to the video description. And here we were, fearing they would be "non-premium" oscs. ROFL
It's rather hard to charge Roland prices for non-premium OSCs....
@@unofsnd Touche! :)
Congrats Roland - it's lovely and lively. Plenty onboard to play with for decades. My wish list is short. I wish it could load user content (pcm samples and wave tables) - And no Jupiter Oscillator models? Maybe in an update? And if it takes 4xAA batteries, shouldn't it have a speaker? And polyphony is 60 voices? In 2023? Time will tell if that's too limiting. I'd have hoped for 128.
How much ...
Taking into account how limited is polyphony in Fantom range, a polyphonyin SH-4d is even more limited which makes it useless in multitrack setup.
This device is very cool mainly due to its layering ability something missing from most sythersizors of this size. £544 seems a good price.
You're telling me there's only 4 pcm sounds and 1 Wavetable?
