I like the design. I have a feeling I will look even better in person. I like the boomerang DRL's it gives it a splash of personality to the old ppl car brand
I'm glad that the headlights are moving into the bumper. I was just reading about how modern headlights are blinding drivers because they are so high and often not calibrated properly. So this is good for us sedan/car drivers.
Sadly however, the pre-facelift encore gx was never sold in Europe. Would have fitted better in the Opel/Vauxhall lineup than the chevy trax in my opinion.
@@nilsstreisel7994 The Chevy Trax was a rebadged Opel Mokka and the Buick Encore was a tebadged Opel Grandland. The Grandland was bigger than the Mokka and they were both sold at the same time.

Buick doesn't have a reason to exist if it were rebadged opel cars. Look at Fiat or lancia. They are on life support with 1 model, a major corporate restructuring to keep the brands alive with a car. Fiat is known for the tiny cars, but lancia seems to receive a new look and i can barely wait their new models, because the ypsilon that was still sold, was utter garbage and a stain on the brand's name. I think Buick is going in the right direction with their design language. This is great start for the company to receive more buyers (younger and not just older buyers) They’re trying to appeal to (all buyers) specifically younger buyers like myself which I would now like to choose one over a Japanese brand 😅. This design is also made from the Chinese market as well which is why Toyotas and Hondas outsell a lot of American brands in the US 🙂
Funnily it still shares the signature L shaped light in the front with OPEL, who they were closely related to in the past. Since then opel design has become much more angular though like the new astra in contrast to Buick…
I like the inverted "shark mouth " type grill of the 2024. I think its a big improvement. The previous year wasn't bad, but it was kind of ho-hum and Buick is trying to appeal to younger buyers.
I actually like the new one panel dashboard screen. One thing I think you left out is, it appears the new Encore GX may be using the Android Automotive OS and the 2023 didn't. That's a big deal if that's the case. Otherwise, very interesting analysis.
That front end is definitely inspired by the wildcat ev concept, so that’s where the design is coming from. Interesting implementation on this body style. Not sure what I think about it but I don’t dislike it. But I also didn’t love how the old one looked either.
I'm picking up my preferred model on Monday, and I think it actually thinks really nice! It's the reason I chose to get a new 2024 instead of a used 2022 or 2023.
It's kind of a weird situation also. The old Encore is a rebadged Opel Mokka, since opel no longer is part of GM they now have to create an unofficial follow up to an Opel model.
I really like the new one, the only problem I have is the boomerang DRLS. With that hood line, they look out of place and make it look a little goofy. If they changed the boomerangs to connect with something or at least sit below a higher-sitting, more stately-looking hood line, that would be perfect.
Now all Buick has to do now, is to make the front overhang 2 foot passed the front wheels to totally ruin the gx's perfect proportions. Like Mazda does.
This man clearly don't like full panel infotainment displays. I think it looks better and more modern on the new refresh Encore. He needs to get out of that old man mentality and embrace the future!
Enjoyed your analysis... logical & well presented. I think the problem w/ the new design is that Buick was set on incorporating styling cues from its Wildcat concept car... even though the "patch job" doesn't really work here. They want that "new face" on all their cars --- but you've got to design that in from the beginning, not slap it on an existing one, if you want it to look integrated. And that's what you've pointed out re: the front: it's not integrated well.
This new Encore I feel it's a stepdown with boomerang headlamps don't jive and the aggressive grille is a bit too much and I don't like the headlights hidden to the bottom. I would pass on Buick and no matter what GM does with it's crossovers and SUVs . They need a halo "Car" and use a CT4 or 5 platform for a GNX vehicle and maybe I might consider Buick
I like the facelift, period. But the aspect ratio of the pics used here seems to be off, because I've watched several videos now of this refresh, and in the metal it looks lower and wider, thus it does not look as good in these pics. Either which way, this looks wayyyyyyyyy better than the trainwreck that is the BMW XM, which Bembli likes 🤢, so just more proof that design is subjective and always a case of, to each his own
ST, how conveinient. My Mom had a frist face Encore, like all moms, but I really could appreciate when they refreshed it with the Envisions face and overall look as seen here. This new design is suffering from brain worm lack of stylus talent just as many new models at least in front, but then again, midcycle is usually when the crap happens. Maybe the new one is not bad, but certainly following the Kona trend. It's like they tried a Urus nose on this.
The pre facelift looks like an Opel Corsa face stretched to fit the bulk of a SUV/crossover and almost looks copy-pasted. The new one at least looks like its own thing.
Every car has to look like a Toyota now. I don’t blame that on any race of people because that would be stupid. It’s consumers in general, many of them Zoomers, who want a car that looks like a space ship with zero class, a tiny, rough engine (or if you’re lucky, a hybrid), firm suspension and a first class ticket to the chiropractor.
Buick has been designed in China for 15yrs- so that debate is silly. Without the success the brand had in China it would have disappeared like Pontiac, Opel, and Oldsmobile. The proportions are weird because the encore's shape was always unappealing. They definitely expect the envista to be a hit(because it looks amazing). This was a sacrifice for the Envista and Envision's redesign. Because those cars are more important globally. That said it still looks better than the last one.
Normally, I agree with you 100%. However, in this case, while the pre-facelift Encore also looks good, I definitely think the new version looks better, at least the exterior and especially the ST. This is notable for me as this is one of the rare instances where I disagree with Bembli. Still love the channel regardless!
At this point, they're just bringing their SUVs and EVs over from China and it'll continue. Predicting that we'll get the Electra E5, Electra E4, and Envista next.
It seems like there's a trend going where every car manufactures bound and determine to destroy the beautiful lines and curves of their outgoing models for these disgusting new ones! Case in point? THE NEW ACCORD!!! WTF WERE THEY THINKING!? Honda took arguably the most beautiful accord they ever made and turn it into a 93 Ford contour!! I'd venture to say the outgoing accord is one of their best looking cars they've ever made of any time frame!
🤔.....um I'm wondering if or why this is on the old platform shared with the old outgoing Chevy Trax??? The new 2024 Chevy Trax is an all new wheels up platform that is about a foot longer and the wheelbase is 4" longer than before. 🤔
I don't know about connected lines or angry face, etc., all I know is that I like the new look much more than the old one, which looked so forgettable and mundane by comparison. I never considered getting the old one because of its looks, but I'm seriously considering at least test driving the new one when it come time to replace my current car to see how it compares with its competition.
Buick has no choice. Opel/Vauxhall wore the exact same facia and PSA carried it on until new Corsa. Opel/Buick were both under control of Mark Adams. Even after Opel sale both brands talk "Pure" design with a driver focused cockpit surface. I think sale deal required both Opel & Buick to change design. Unfortunately, while quirky, Opel looks better! I LOVED Envision front lights, the "evolution" looks upmarket but not nearly as unique or clean. Same with above Encore.
