  • In this video I just show you how the tilapia are doing now in my aquaponic system, and go over a few things that I still need to do in my aquaponic system. At the moment I just have the two types of tilapia, but I will be getting some Red Nile tilapia hopefully within the next few weeks.
Both the Blue Tilapia and Mozambique Tilapia I got locally

How do you keep your tanks clean

If you are talking about the clarity of the water. Then that is due to the tanks being partially covered plus the factor that I have a good amount of plants and biological surface area. The plants and bacteria help with water clarity as long as there is a good amount, if there is not enough than the water will turn green.
If you are referring to not having that much gunk at the bottom of my tanks that is due to the good water flow I have running through the tanks. The more water flow allows the solids to become suspended in the water and move towards the filtration. The fish also help with stirring the bottom of the tanks from swimming around.

Do you get algae in your plant beds? I run an aquaponics system with and NFT style for my plants. I get alot of algae covering their roots.

No I haven't really noticed algae growing on the roots of my plants. But I do have algae growing on the side of my tanks.
And in my hydroton grow beds I only get algae if I set the water level in the grow bed to high. So basically if the water comes above the hydroton I get algae, but as long as it is an inch or two below it is good.

I'm shopping around looking for White Nile and Blue Tilapia. Do you have any suggestions on sellers?

I have not actually ordered tilapia online all the ones I have I got from some other aquaponics people locally. (pretty much all the fish I have I drove somewhere to pick them up).
But you can try this place out. I didn't order anything from them yet but I was thinking to get some freshwater prawns from them later on.

@@vonponics That's good to know. There are no sellers anywhere near me that isn't 9 or so hours away. I placed an order from Lakeway Tilapia and now waiting for them to ship.
