  • Raising Tilapia in an Aquaponics system from starting them to 90 days in. This is my second round of raising Tilapia. Learn from my mistakes as well as others who have made the same before me. I will go over foods to feed, you can see my system for raising them and growing their food.
Fishing is an excellent way to get food and I highly recommend it. In my area, Tilapia are not in the wild and I can't fish for them. Tilapia is a great-tasting white fish that I can raise in my backyard. I will still continue fishing for Salmon, Trout, Sturgeon, Etc.

I’m on my first batch of outdoor tilapia. I’m in the mountains of Ecuador in a place that should be too cold for tilapia. It’s 51ºf outside right now. Most days hit about 70°f. The the combination of super ínstense equatorial mountain sun and a black plastic pond liner mean that the pond hovers around 65°f. Not ideal for tilapia but workable. I don’t feed my tilapia at all. My pond is large, probably able to hold several hundred, but I only have about 25. They live off algae, insects, (hundreds of crickets jump in the pond each day), and duckweed. Eventually I’ll half cover the pond with a greenhouse to bump up the water temperature increase to maybe 100 tilapia when I set up a hydroponic system and need the tilapia to produce more fertilizer for the plants.

My kid brother went playing with his friends down a river this Summer.
And, he returned home with two small fishes in a jar.
Now, he already has fishes-friend and I'm worried about what this tilapia eats because we've never had a tilapia before.
    😣

I will do another video. There are some now that are 12". They are also fattening up nicely and the mouths on them are getting massive.

That's alot of equipment for tilapia. If you want a planted tilapia tank, use water spinach (kangkong). Stablish the plant first. Give it 9 days or until you see tgem roots covering the tank and the leaves above water before adding tilapia. Next, you need an outlet for the poops cause the do poop a lot so drill a hole at the bottom for easy cleaning. Third, add surface aggitation. That's all you need and your tilapia will be fine. Feed them twice a day according to their size. They wont get hungry cause they love water spinach.

the future is doing below ground greenhouses pit greenhouses or like that guy in Nebraska who's growing Valencia oranges and different tropical fruits what he does is besides digging a big basement for the greenhouse is he digs a ditch in two different directions 100 ft and lets the Earth cycle fresh air from its temperature at 52 degrees.not only am I going to do the greenhouse but I'm also going to put my own spin on their using free form Adobe and Cellular concrete to create massive tubs that will be waist high for raising things like crickets grasshoppers and beetle larvae for feeding tilapia.
just thought I'd share you probably already know that clams purify the water if you go to some of your native streams you can collect various different snails and clams for free they will help to keep the tank clean.

Thank you for sharing both your successes and your failures. It was sad to see your fry grow up to cannibalize each other out of simple starvation because your doesn't feed them more as they grew... but you sharing this lesson can help all of us who are interested in raising tilapia to avoid the same mistake. I learned a number of things watching this video.

So, I have some small tilapia in a tank. They attack all the other fish. I tried feeding them more, but their appetite is HUGE… like they never stop being hungry.

The other day I cast netted a bunch of little tilapia about an inch long and put like six of them in a tank with my highly aggressive rainbow cichlid he’s about 5 inches long and they actually are doing great together

I’ve had mine about three months now. Having a hard time getting them to eat the bigger pellets from 300. They’ll eat duckweed fast but are picky with the purina 400. Any other stuff you’ll feed them?
