Sorry if this has been suggested already but if you can get your hands on some “1000 mile socks” that should help. They are double layered socks and they work really well for me for running, I guess you may be able to achieve the same result by just wearing two pairs of socks. Hi Tom - I currently can't walk very far due to a medical problem, but am loving your Scotland adventure - you're doing the walking for me! When the going gets tough, remember there are lots of us urging you on :-)
I feel your pain. Walking in wet shoes and socks is death for the feet. I did that on the C2C and, when I took my shoes off, the skin that was normally under my heel was behind my heel. I thought I'd have to stop but took a 2-day break and, with a couple of ibuprofen before setting off each day, was able to keep going. Waterproof socks help.
Raynor Wynn has recently written about walking this area down to Cornwall with her disabled husband.. seeing this vlog has made me really appreciate the challenge!! Well done..
We are in awe of your journey so far. We can see how comfortable you are on the trail, we just hope you get a clear break in the weather, well done mate.
I am loving this quest! Have you read The Salt Path? They found it physically hard in the beginning with a lot of the same issues with blisters etc but then their bodies adapted and toughened up to the walk. Next time I'm caught in relentless rain I will try to 'be more Tom' 😊

This is just epic -- what a journey. I admire your steadfast attitude. Don't know how anyone can hike in that weather without foot problems. My gosh, it's almost trench foot conditions.
You absolutely need waterproof LEATHER boots to hike through Scottish bogs 😉 Zamberlan, Mindel or Scarpa are all good, you can protect leather with grangers wax or mink oil. Order yourself up a pair, or better still a pair of barefoot boots like the vivo forest tracker, or freet tundra
Absolutely, leather boots are brilliant! I used to think they were overpriced but they eliminate all that unnecessary pain your poor feet are going through

I grew up in the Highlands but you never truly appreciate the beauty of your surroundings til you leave!😍 I travelled all those roads regularly (had a friend in Kinbrace, funny to see her house in your vlog) but never ventured far off them, the journeys were so long, you were always in a hurry to get where you were going up there!😂 Fascinating to see how many trails and bothies are around, makes me want to go back and explore properly - on foot! 🥾🥾
Tom, remedy for your feet!!! Spiky balls are really good for helping sore feet. I work long hours in heavy boots and it used to restrict me going on adventures after work but standing on and rolling the balls on my feet made it feel like I was walking on air. I don’t know the science to it but it helped me so I hope maybe it could help you as I know how your feeling buddy :)

Fair play, walking on blistered painful feet is hard going. Listening to Tolkien whilst hiking in that scenery must put a smile on your face. Shaping up to be an epic challenge Tom. Great to see Izzy briefly.
Some serious resilience required for this walk! Well done. I know that if I was in the Highlands exposed to the weather you've had, I'd be heading for the nearest hotel and a hot shower! 🙂
Blister fix. Get an odour eater insole cut them to the shape of the backs of your shoes then get some carpet spray adhesive and stick it to the backs. This stops blisters instantly. Good luck
Ooo, I’m getting so many good blister fixes. I have just had two day rest, and it has done them the world of good. Otho I they needed some time dry and to heal

I am really enjoying this, brutal and brilliant and inspiring. The southern flatlands are going to seem a little dull by comparison. The unspooky bothy was great.
Luckily Isabel will be joining me in Glasgow so I will have some distraction until we at least reach the Lake District, from there I’m hoping to go into Wales, so should be fairly bumpy for most the walk back

July 30 2023 Maryland USA: What a test of endurance that you are braving through. The soft ground makes for wet soggy shoes. Great if you find a bothby to be out of the elements for a bit. I know how blisters with hiking and strapped with a backpack can be another challeng. You are truly doing amazing with your journey. We are cheering you on🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 Take care and safe journey’s.
Great stuff Tom. I know exactly what you mean about enjoying the waterlogged landscape once your feet are wet. I always had a dry set of footwear packed as back up. I live in Scotland and the changeable weather adds to its beauty.
Agree, I have lived in Scotland before but it was over in Aberdeen, the west/north are a whole different kettle of fish, I love the rugged wilderness and the unforgiving weather, makes you feel very small, it’s very humbling

Funny you should say what you were listening to. I often used to put on the LOTR soundtrack when i was driving up to my parents' place in Thurso. Seemed to fit the landscape perfectly. That and the music from Local Hero.
Amazing video. I'm seriously considering moving to the Highlands and was worried about the wind and rain - but watching your infectious enthusiasm made me realise that the weather is part of the journey. Just watching you cross that vast magnificent landscape made me realise what true outdoor adventure really is. This is the most inspiring walking video I've seen and makes me more determined to get my arse up there and live! Thank you so much for sharing this.
Good stuff as always Tom, I can almost feel the wind buffeting my armchair. Buy yourself some microporous tape for the blisters, it has worked quite well for me and is as cheap as chips, so you can tape and re-tape many times a day if needs be, apply it directly to the bad bits and wrap it round and round (eg. a toe or the foot) to secure. Loving this adventure.
Hi Tom, or should I say Frodo Baggins. I’ve watched all your adventures with Issy but I have to say I’m enjoying this one the most. That could be because I’m Scottish and biased 😂😂. And would love to do something similar. It was great to see Issy making a guest appearance 😊. Looking forward to next week’s episode and you’ll probably have Frodo’s feet by then 😂. Take care. I wish there were stops that you know that someone will be there to at least check your feet and over all health. How gutted to go back 6 miles. Nice that you picked up a walking stick and mushrooms.
Lived in big cities all my Life but the Highlands are really somewhere very special, The Incredible Scenery and the Lack of People make it totally Magical. You Got This Tom 💪

Leather walking boots will not keep your feet dry when you are up to your knees in water.

So sorry you got caught out by the campsite. When it was locally owned it was open to all.
It’s okay, I was pretty low when I finally got into town, but it gave me the push I needed to dunk in the river, far more refreshing than a shower 🦦

Buy yourself some microporous tape for the blisters, it has worked quite well for me and is as cheap as chips, so you can tape and re-tape many times a day if needs be, apply it directly to the bad bits and wrap it round and round (eg. a toe or the foot) to secure. Loving this adventure.

Hi Tom, or should I say Frodo Baggins. I’ve watched all your adventures with Issy but I have to say I’m enjoying this one the most. That could be because I’m Scottish and biased 😂😂. And would love to do something similar. It was great to see Issy making a guest appearance 😊. Looking forward to next week’s episode and you’ll probably have Frodo’s feet by then 😂. Take care.
