History Of Bay Area Rap Compilations
Вставка
- Опубліковано 5 жов 2024
- No other genre of music has utilized the compilation format more than hip-hop, and no other region has produced as many compilations as the Bay Area. Starting in the early 90s, independent record labels, producers, and artists found the compilation format to be a lucrative source of revenue by combining the talent of multiple artists as opposed to a traditional album by a solo artist or group. This format exploded, leading to the creation of perhaps thousands of compilations, which is a testament to the hungry Northern California fanbase where millions of fans could never seem to get enough music to satisfy their demand.

BOSS BALLIN & WEST COAST TRIPPIN were the only 2 missing imo... Keep giving them the history!!
20:46 You forgot about "D-Shot Presents: Boss Ballin' Compilation" that was also a dope classic! 🔥💯
My favorites were Bay Area playaz, Boss Ballin and West coast bad boyz
GLP "Straight Out The Labb" is a compilation moreso than a group album and its right up in there with Herm and West Coast Bad Boyz as the trifecta during that time.
oh and don't forget Dangerous Crew compilation!
One of my favorite albums ever is Mr. Ill, The Rebirth. I was lucky enough to get the cassette from a buddies dad growing up.
I got the CD. He's underrated.
Herm, westcoast bad boyz 1, 17 reasons, isolated in tha game, million dollar dream 18 wit a bullet and all the mystic journeymen/living legends..some of my top bay area compilations!
I got all the CD's you just named.. 🔥
GLP is my favorite album period. Every song bumps
Southwest Riders was so dope. (e40) black and orange discs. Introduced a lot of yay area heads to midwest and south stuff.
Whoever missed out, missed out, alot of this music is out of print..
Cell block compilation was tha best out of all of them every song slapped
The E.P.A. City compilation was also one of the first to come out the bay in 93.....Dope ass underground East Palo Alto comp....
I remember seeing the “This is how we eat” poster at a homies house and geekin off how many local legends the bay had bred, instantly had to do my homework on our scene. Another important episode bro!
"Heat" & Well connected where 2 of my favorites.. IMO this was kinda like a west coast mixtape sold in stores
Heat was my comp!! Also 3 beam circus …watching now don’t know if he mentioned it
Mobb House came two good ones but this was at the end of the compilation era
Animosity was a nice one too that featured a lot of e40 disses. And a deep underground cult classic group, the Young D Boyz.
Herm trying to survive in the ghetto, West Coast bad boys, 17 reasons, Isolated in the game and million dollar dream will always be the essentials.
The Southwest Riders was a good double CD compilation.
The young d boys were some fools lol.
Who is on the animosity compilation? Also herm, westcoast bad boyz 1 & 2, 17 reasons and 18 wit a bullet are definitely classics.
@@richDM650 a bunch of e40s rivals lol I don't think they're from the crest either. Maybe Suisun bc a group called Su side family. Some rappers who took on the bad guys names from TMNT lol. But Cougnut was on one of the tracks. It wasn't a well known compilation and more of a one side of that area compilation lol. 🤷🏽♂️
@@forthesnowflakes7691 No Su Side was in Vallejo. If you'd like to see a map of the OG vallejo sets.
Potna Duce Heir on soup has a map.
@@I_like_turtles_67 right on! I was just guessing back in the day but I do recall some of them saying South side Vallejo too.

I worked for a record label, my family friends label in the city in the early early 2000 and we put out a bunch of Bay Area hip-hop. Keak, 3x K, even an album by Das efx.
There are some influential Bay Area record labels that you haven't hit yet, and specific individuals also.
This was a classic time, glad i bought the CD's when it was record stores carrying em.. D-Boys by Ridah is double album classic. 😎
I was in Yuma az in the 90s ,2000s… my local record store had all these and was selling!! Imo what killed the comp game in the bay was same songs on multiple releases

Dregs, I love what you do for the Bay! One question for you as a Baydestrian, Imma San Jo native and always considered our city the S. Bay . Lately some social media cats claim SJ aint The Bay. I beg to differ. What's your perspective on that? I say Skrillacon Valley is the Bay, yadada!

You didn't do a great job of researching. That Was not the first bay area comp! 😲 Smh
The first Comp was The Dangerous Crew 1988! Second A.P.G. Crew 1989!
That Herm Came out in 1992.
What's the Bay Area rap compilation song that included Shock G?
Original Rompalation 🔥 🔥 🔥 31007
Also Mom & Pop record stores throughout the bay. If it wasn't for them you wouldn't even know what was up cause underground rap got no radio play. Tower records wouldn't sell any local bay shit. So shot out to Mom & Pop shops. Rock Bottom records in Pittsburg/Antioch was where I went.
