I have had a Breville for 15 years and no other toaster oven comes close! Solid construction , great convection and huge capacity make this a winner. In my opinion all their products are very well designed.

At my favorite resale shop, I found a basically unused, few year old Breville.
I took the model # and watched the original video.
Very happy to go the next day and pick it up for $50.
They had a special ~ I got it for under $30. Score !
It does everything including make great toast and bagels,
besides the convection and other features.
This probably just sat on a counter until I got it (the plug had original packing on)

If you want a toaster oven that truly replaces an oven then the Breville is still a bargain. If you just want to make toast and reheat stuff then a cheaper oven toaster makes more sense including ones for Breville.
But you make a great point about not ranking them and getting one that best matches your usage case.

I find that different breads toast at different rates, depending probably on the varied amount of sugar and stuff in them. So I watch my toast in the toaster oven pretty carefully to make sure it gets as even as possible. I will Flip and rotate it to make it even. I have the mini breville smart oven.

I really enjoy your channel, and I understand that often “the very best” appliance is a very pricey one…please show that. But, I’ve noticed that often a more “budget-friendly” appliance is not given. Yes, if I have $350 for a bread machine, that’s great…but I don’t want to spend that (referring to your bread machine video.) Could you also please give a “budget friendly” model “suggestion” that was good enough, not perfect, but would do the basics or something relatively well, for significantly less money? I use Consumer Reports and your site often for reviews, because Amazon stars ⭐️ can’t be trusted, they can be bought, most YT and websites are also paid…and it’s impossible to tell if something is a piece of junk. Yes, I could have guessed as soon as I clicked on the video that the Breville or another high end model would win…of course, it’s a fabulous product…but, please give an option for budget friendly as well. I truly enjoy your channel, and support that you do rigorous testing, and are not paid off for reviews. I would just love a few more price options offered…and I’ll watch a longer video doing that as well! Or two separate videos, that would be great! Thank you so much, I really enjoy your magazine, the PBS show I watched a long time ago, the YT channel…and I trust you, wider price range options with the pros/cons would be greatly appreciated! Keep up the great work (and yes, I just complained, sorry) but I really do enjoy the channel a lot.

@@sandrah7512 Bummer! I hate that! I’ve seen ATK/Gear Heads do reviews in the past that included a more inexpensive option…I think that’s how I wound up with my simple little Zojirushi rice maker, that was $60, but makes rice well, and the $350 was out of my range. It has to be hard, especially with appliances changing models so frequently to be able to keep up with that at ATK, sometimes the model change is just a different color or a new feature or something…sometimes, it’s a major change to how it works…so hard to know! My original bread maker, received as a wedding gift, was a Sunbeam…well known appliance maker 20+ yrs ago, not sure if it’s still in business…and it did a good job. It eventually died, and it would have been a simple fix…but it was 10 years later, and no replacement parts were available…but it lasted 10 years, so, not bad. I didn’t expect it to be like my Kitchen Aid mixer which can be passed down to the next generation if you take care of it, lol.

Never had a toaster oven before.
Don’t have a ton of counter space.
But I picked up the Breville oven the first time they recommended it.
It’s one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. It preheats in about 4 minutes. It’s just as accurate as my large oven, and it’s convection.
It fits a quarter sheet pan perfectly, but I might try to get a bigger one to fit a half sheet pan.
Here’s the one and only downside (other than the counter space).
After about 6 years, the convection fan is getting a little loud and will probably fail soon. The oven will work without the fan. But I looked online, this is a common problem. Wish they would fix it.
    I’d still recommend it.

I had one of their Oster toasters, bought it in 2017, or 18 and it barely lasted 2 years before it failed completely, not the element itself, but the circuit board and would not always lock the lever when pushed down, nor did it release and the final straw was it caused the toast to begin to catch on fire one morning. I bought a Cuisinart basic white toaster and it's been great, going on 3 years I think now.
A major surprise was the cheap toaster I bought in 2005, I think, a red plastic shelled Farberware unit at Big Lots and it toasted toast quite well, and reliably until the heating element finally went on one side of one slot, killing the toaster, never mind it was getting all faded on part of one side from years of exposure to the western sun in my kitchen.

I'm getting ready to buy a new/replacement toaster oven and was surprized to not find my Hamilton Beach x-large oven 31107D as a top contender.
This will be my third od this 311 model. It works superbly even for large casseroles. I even make the ATK deep dish pan pizza (10 inch cast iron) every weekend.
I do offer these tips for all larger toaster ovens...
    1. Use an oven thermometer if actual temperature is important.
    2. Use a small pizza tile or small cast iron pan to help stabilize the temperature when putting in a large, cold casserole dish.
    3. Use a good timer with alarm and set it to a short time... say 40 min out of an hour. Then rotate the pan/dish/pot and cook for the remainder of time.
    4. Take notes on your cooking tiem and temperature settings. Adjust as needed. Most of us cook the same several meals over and over. Cook these according to your notes.
    5. When it is hot - put your toaster oven outside and cook your meal while you keep the kitchen cooler.

I got the Hamilton-Beach model ATK used to recommend and I was extremely disappointed; toast takes forever, if it’s hearty bread like a sourdough it doesn’t brown at all but simply dehydrates, oven temp is well below the setting, the tray that came with it has a convex rectangle for who knows what reason … I could go on. I’m glad they are recommending something else now.

My Oster toaster oven seems to have very good temperature control. Pizza comes out perfect and very even without turning it. It does a great job on chicken thighs. It's large enough that I rarely use the regular oven. My only two beefs are that you can't change time or temperature without turning it off and the beeping sounds when starting and finishing are far too loud.

This is the first ATK review that I really disagree with. I I've had 2 Brevilles, and both were great for baking & roasting, but terrible at making toast, or toasting bagels. So I had to by a cheap, traditional 2 slice toaster just to make toast. I noticed your review did not comment oh how well (or not) the Breville made toast. I think I know why.
I challenge ATK to do a side by side comparison of a Breville and a traditional toaster - even a cheap old fashion toaster will beat any Breville at making toast (and a vintage toaster would ANNIHILATE the Breville).
    What, no response from ATK?

    • @LS-ti6jo
      @LS-ti6jo 2 роки тому

@@gsp0819kri I have owned two of these Brevilles, neither of which was any good (despite what ATK reports) at toasting bread or bagels when compared to an old school inexpensive toaster. So I was surprise and disappointed when ATK claimed otherwise. The Breville is a great tiny oven, and I use it for many things - except toasting bread & bagels. For that, an inexpensive toaster beats it every time.

I got the same Breville Smart Oven based on this recommendation, overall it's worked great. However, over time, oil eventually gunked up around the convection fans, which now makes a loud whirring sound when on. Meanwhile the oven is not designed to be owner-serviceable--the fans are not easily accessible, and the oven as a whole uses clips and pins that are difficult if not impossible to put back together if taken apart.
If you're making toast and things that don't splatter it should be fine, and I still use it as a normal toaster oven, but just be warned that if anything fails it's very difficult to address.

We had problems with convection and loud noises too, but Breville had us send it back. There was a charge, but not anywhere near the cost of the original oven. They sent a brand new oven and it’s been going longer than the original one.

I was considering splurging on the Wolf oven, but then read that for its very expensive price, items such as door springs are NOT replaceable, and Wolf's response is for you to shell out for another expensive oven! Other oven manufacturers would not provide a part number so you could easily replace a simple item, but would charge you $215.00 to repair a door spring. I expect a fairly expensive appliance to be made to be serviced, to not easily catch on fire (a problem on some) - and I greatly prefer items made in the USA. Currently considering the GE Couture -
