Thanks! Glad you think so. Always a fine balance between enhancing what's already there to showcase the drums strengths, and not going over board with processing. Cheers!
80s Tama just had the special sauce. Even their lower end kits just have a gritty but mellow vibe. My old Zola coat swingstars sound so good when actually tuned.
Wooow! Amazing Superstar by Tama, finally they brought it back after a couple off 'missfits' in that serie for years (sorry to say🤭). Thanks for sharing this
Funny you guys mention that - I have one for sale from 1983 if you're interested; it's not been listed on Reverb yet but I'd be happy to sell it before I post 🙂
This is a beautiful sounding kit !! I wonder if they could add a 14×14 floor tom to this. Either way, its a great kit plus I like that the bass drum is 14" deep.
Tama fan here. This demo sounds like he's playing with Rods, even though from what I can tell, looks like regular sticks. Makes me think the audio was heavily processed. Or maybe this drummer is crazy good & has a secret technique 😛. Guess I'll wait for DCP to give a legit demo 😉. Pretty expensive for a birch set. Still, I like it !
Hello Tama fan, or Dilan if that's your given name? No need to write about me in third person, as you can see I'm the publisher of this video, name is in the title. We might have different ideas about how rods sound...... that's okay! The sound is processed somewhere between my own skills as a mixer, my preferences as a drummer, a short turnaround time and working within the constrictions of a one man operation. All for better or for worse. I've stated this in the past and will once more. My videos are not intended to serve as a flat reference. They are in all simplicity an extension of my tastes in music, drums, audio processing, lighting & cinematography - where I want to make something that I like. That's what's "legit" to me.
@@antonjamesolsson I don't follow your channel, So I don't know what you've said in the past. My apologies. Anyway, Good to know they weren't meant to be a flat reference & had to be processed. Based on that, I'll pass on this particular TAMA set. Well played though. Good job 😉
True, but even though it has a lower price and no die-cast hoops (which is not what EVERYBODY likes anyway).. it's still an amazing kit, especially once you replaced the heads. I owned the Silverstar for a while (and so did Anton). I'm pretty sure TAMA did consider the Silverstar good enough to replace the Superstar at the time. Die-Cast hoops are more expensive and makes the kit higher priced.. but it's not about ''quality''. The Silverstar had more of a ''vintage'' feel in a modern envelope. Having wraps instead of a more expensive finish also helped reducing the cost without affecting sound quality. @@femaledeer
Outstanding demo! You let the drums breathe so it's makes it easier for the viewer to appreciate them. Do you recall the Evans drumhead you used for the snare?
Thanks mate! Appreciate it. Quality Tama drums with that vintage vibe. I’d say this kit is really for those looking for the tone and experience of the old superstars, of course with a modern twist. Kinda like Gretsch’s broadcaster/brooklyn sets. Bit surprised to see the lack of a rubber gasket/thing to protect the bass drum hoops. Metal on wood. And the tom mount do come with the traditional inconvenience of shortening the sustain when mounted. For better or for worse is for the player to decide I feel :) 2 ply coated heads in this video, the sound was focused and quite short, but not lacking. Can’t imagine these shells won’t ring for as long as one could want with one ply heads. Cheers!
@@antonjamesolsson Well, I love Gretsch and old Superstars! My first drum teacher had a Superstar set. No RUBBER! I’m very curious of the price now and am gonna look it up. I think the Toms sounded awesome! I would love to hear this kit with Ebony emperor “suede” heads on the toms. They would sound awesome.
What kind of heads do you have on the toms? They don't look like the stock heads. Evans of some ilk? Appreciate any info. Excellent video and you're a helluva player too!
The best thing about these drums is the mounting system. This retro system proves that suspension mounts and all the over hyped and over priced mounting systems drums companies invent are simply marketing techniques. Yes I love my 2021 star cast tom mounts and quick-release memory locks but imo drum sounded better in the 80's with shallow bass drums, aged wood, metal on wood tom mounts, plain old triple flanged hoops, and drums heads with less plastic. I'm leaning towards picking up the acrylic version but might get the birch and acrylic. I appreciate Tama so much, I believe they make the all around best hardware and most affordable high quality drums.
Nah dude this is such a sick demo, im definitely getting this kit as soon as I can. Thanks a lot for your showcase!
WOW!!! That's the best sound demo of the 50th Superstar kit I've heard so far!! WOW!!!!
Thanks! Glad you think so. Always a fine balance between enhancing what's already there to showcase the drums strengths, and not going over board with processing.
Cheers!
I’ve got that 6-piece version of that same kit. They do sound pretty amazing.
Sounds amazing! Great playing 👏👏
SOLID PLAYING! The kit sounds awesome too!

Excellent playing and engineering! Sounds terrific.😊
Beautiful playing !!

Everything about this video is perfect
These drums sound so damn good
Nice playing, great tuning work, kit is thunder
Thx. Hoping TAMA also does the Superstar reissue justice by releasing a power tom kit.
Yes!! An “xtras” reissue would be perfection
Funny you guys mention that - I have one for sale from 1983 if you're interested; it's not been listed on Reverb yet but I'd be happy to sell it before I post 🙂
That´s how drums should sound. Perfect! "TAMA IS the strongest namn in Drums".
Another floor Tom and that’s my kit
This is a beautiful sounding kit !!

If they offered a 14x14 for 2 up 2 down, I'd have already ordered one.
i have to get me one of these, sound a,maaazing
Suena muy lindo. Y sabes sacarle un muy buen sonido con la manera en la que tocas, genial.
Of course, the bell brass is perfect,in all tuning ranges
I love Tama Drums

I don't understand why this kit was discontinued. It's not like TAMA has a different birch kit.
Yes, TAMA had a different all birch kit model, which is the Silverstar.
@@davidmultimedia2024 Silverstone is cheaper without die-cast hoops

Nice one, Keep it up!
Thanks, will do!
Is that the Cherry or the Mahogany finish?... hard ti be certain in that lighting.
It’s the super mahogany, but as you noted, with a lot of light. You can see it clearer (darker) from the side angle.
Sounds good, but not crazy about the tom and bass drum mounts.
Outstanding demo! You let the drums breathe so it's makes it easier for the viewer to appreciate them.
Do you recall the Evans drumhead you used for the snare?
Thanks! Not 100% but my gut feeling is that it was a UV1.
Amazing video, sound and playing....Evans G2?
Thanks a ton! It's actually the UV2's.
@@antonjamesolsson Awesome, I'll try them when mine arrive. Tks 🔥🔥🔥
Are the shells made out of hokkaido birch??
Omg man! You are a beautiful player, outstanding. How was the kit in person? I love classic Tama but I imagine it is very expensive.
Thanks mate!

No diecast hoops right?
Correct (just on the snares)
Are these drums made in China???
Yes (but not the snare drums)

Nothing wrong with mounting right to the shell , actually they’re more sturdy this way
