Even though I work on movie sets now, I studied photography and at school we had a class dedicated to old tech. Among the first dslrs and other oddities were one 150. I mean, it must have been revolutionary at the time but shooting with it in 2010 was pretty underwhelming to be honest.

IIRC Apple, Logitech, Chinon (before they were bought by Kodak), Compaq, and Kodak sort of all worked on the camera and the sensor in the QuickTake 100 and 150 is basically the same KAF-0400 in the DC40/Fotoman Pixtura masked down to 640x480 for some reason. My Dad's work at the time (a non-profit) used Macs, and they bought one of these to use for desktop publishing purposes, as well as print ID badges (oddly enough). They could take photos and easily import them, manipulate them, and use them for whatever they needed. We lived in Rochester, NY at the time, the headquarters of Kodak, and if I remember correct, they got a sweetheart deal on one because of being a non-profit. I can't tell you if Kodak had any part in that, but they were a benefactor to the organization.

I had the, ahem, pleasure of using a Quicktake 150 back in 1998. It wasn't the first digital camera I'd ever used (actually got my hands, briefly, on a Nikon/Kodak DCS420 in 1995) but it definitely was the crappiest. I don't recall transferring images being a problem (back then) but the quality was akin to a bad Zoom call these days ;-)

My dad bough me the QT100 when it was 500DM (Germany 1995) on sale. I was very happy and shot so many pictures.. My brother and i did stop-motion (claymation) since the camera could take pictures directly over the serial-line and that would only take around 10s. Fun times... Sadly my QT100 died when the batteries leaked and i could not get it to work again. I bought a QT150 off of eBay a few years ago (when they were still cheap).

While the Newton was vastly superior to everything else (it helped our transition away from the Rolodex and led the way for the Handspring), you're right, Apple's computer lineup in the late 90s was lackluster - which is why we went with the PowerTowerPro225 that offered better power and features than the Performa or PowerMac at a much lower price.
