Well.. blame auto manufacturers for not making everyday affordable cars more interesting! It's like everything affordable these days is a freaking FWD, CVT, 4 cylinder CUV...
You’re 100% spot on 🎯 with the Stinger! The mushiness and the very early oxidation of the trim are the primary reasons that the Stinger went bye bye. I looked at this vehicle before and after the Stinger but the lack of a hatch and almost Porsche 911 levels of rear seat room knocked the G70 off of the list.
a few points. 1. i´m a sucker for white /ivory interiors. so this one looks so appealing for me. What the heck, i even find the interior of the new e-c3 from citroen appealing in the top trim with all its white bits. 2.Cars like this are why we save money. There´s no way i blow a ton of cash in an ev for a thousand reasons and a good, well balanced RWD ICE car is just so freakin´ desirable. 3. watching the video i see you enjoying it quite a bit so that gives me hope that other buyers will feel the same and hopefully they keep building this nice cars. 4. Electrification in my opinion is going into the "real" phase at this point. The average buyer, and not the "ev fan" is the one who has to make the purchase i don´t see any data pointing towards any sort of mass adoption except in some small countries were are heavily subsidized and ICE are heavily penalized. We have ICE for long time but regulators will continously try to defeat our will but ultimately there will be a reality check even for the hardest eco warrior politician so, as toyota said, there will be many electric cars but there´s no way everyone is driving evs even in few decades.
I wish they would fix the asymmetrical gauge cluster and go full analog or full digital. This was the main flaw I found in the mid-cycle refresh (‘22+). Enough so I ended up buying a 2021 3.3 instead. Great drivetrain, driving dynamics, and most of all, an alternative to the Germans.
In Canada at least, this thing is an absolute steal - at least based on lease. There is a minimum of $400 per month difference in lease between a 3.3T Sport and even a 330i with decent options.
I recently got myself a 2025 G70 2.5T AWD (w/o add-on pkg). Coming from a '22 Kia K5 GT, I thought I knew what to expect from the motor, but learned that the transmission makes a real difference to how it drives. At first, I missed the raw fun of my K5 (mainly those snappy DCT shifts). Now, I'm starting to realize that the move I've made is akin to graduating from high school and moving on to college. My G70 is clearly a better car, and I'm feeling the need to up my game as a driver. I can only imagine how much better the V6 version is.
I drove the base version from a rental place. I was surprised how well it handles and the steering feedback. However, I was surprised it's in the "luxury" category when my mazda interior is just as nice or better. Still though, I'm considering buying one.
Okay fellas....let me give u all my take on the instrument cluster! Think of the two most important instruments an airman has to have....then think of the two most prominent gauges on the first automobiles. So it's got to be speed and available fuel. At least that what I'd like to know if all my other fancy tech systems went south all of a sudden on US 50 across NV. So I like to pretend that some real car guy decided to keep the two most important information inputs to a driver in a lovely, completely legible old school format. Here's where I think of a fine timepiece, like a "Roller" or Omega....it's all in the dial and bezel, right....now move ur head around as u look at the speedo....the beautiful reflection of the bezel plus the increments of the numbers....graduated superbly for ease of understanding at a glance. Bottom line, relish the absolute beauty of those instruments, cause that stuff is going away and everything will be one big electronically projected "cluster f...k" from now on!! Thank u Genesis guys for saving a dial or two for we humans who love cars that make us want to actually drive!!!!!
To your question: I picked up a 2024 Giulia Quadrifoglio Carbonio Edition last week. I plan on keeping it forever. Would love to see you revisit the Giulia Quadrifoglio in its last year. I think it’s really the swan song of purist sports sedans. Obviously it’s a tier above the Genesis but a 1-2 year old example is the same as a new G70 or M340i.
I get such contradictory impressions from the G70. Some journalists say these aren't sporty enough, others suggest its quite capable! If I could I'd drive ome myself and finally get a clue
I personally really like the updated styling. I’d love the 2.5t RWD with an LSD to save weight on the nose but I don’t believe this option exists. I don’t buy new so I can’t help the cause! Speaking of good things going away, would love an @motoman review of the Alfa Giulia 2.0 or QV.
Hyundai/Kia quality is still an issue. Mine, with under 10,000 miles, was in service for 108 days in 2023. Servicing dealer and corporate were exceptionally terrible.
Hot take, with the stinger gone this needs to cover the stinger's space too. Meaning a lot more fun colors. Let's get that magma edition orange over here 😂
The G70 is also getting discontinued though. Last model year will be 2025 as I understand it. There are no plans for a replacement so Genesis will no longer compete in the compact luxury sedan segment.
@@MotoManTV,I was there last Monday evening at Memorial day,in "Little bar".😆 That restaurant was ONLY ONE open there, all other restaurants were closed.😂 I visited Goodland after a good 10 years at least,I'm living in Fort Myers now, previously I lived on Marco Island. Goodland is such a tiny place,I can't believe we almost met in that Village. 🤣 Isle of Capri is located from other side of Marco island,as you probably know. This is funny, small world.
I wish they would fix the headlight seal issue where water gets inside, it makes what otherwise would be an extremely good looking car look cheap asf in the rain or high humidity weather, the headlight would damn near be filled up with water.
I have always been and I hope to always be a sedan guy. Fewer choices for sedans compared to SUVs and trucks. I am only one man with a two car garage; so I am unable to do much about keeping these types of vehicles going. But my question for you is, this car or a 340i?
Good question, but you know I am broken. As such, neither. Would most likey do a slightly used M3 manual for the same money. Or, if I didn't need the rear doors, M2 every day, twice on Sunday.
My only gripe is with the gauge cluster. Why not go fully digital?! It’s like a clock that’s half digital and half analog. Even the climate control has become a screen.
I wish they would add a two door G70 coupe and convertible instead of killing it. They trademarked years ago all the GC numbers for coupes. We've seen some concepts but nothing real yet. Let's go Genesis!
Thanks MM for this review, had no idea that this car was continue in production. Makes me considering trading in my low mileage (and paid for) 2019 Stinger GT1. I’m in my early 70s and retired. Financing is not an option and raiding my retirement package not a healthy option. We can still dream.
I like the look of the genesis car. Ultimately I went with the 2020 M340ix at the time because the performance was much better. The genesis looks stunning and it’s a very good entry performance/luxury car. Personally I liked the KIA GT stinger look more. Shame that they are discounting all of these cars but the M340ix is a better performing car. If they provided a better tune and AWD then it might have appealed the buyers more.
IDK, a proper sports car such as the S650 chassis over shadows G70 in a lot of categories but one thing I do respect is that the performance is close. The vehicles in question are more apples to oranges in my view.
What will I do to keep Gemesis G70 alive? I bought one 2 weeks ago! It is a well rounded car that is better at everything across the board, and decently priced. I got a 2024 2.5 AWD version, at 8500 below MSRP because the 2025s need to come in so previous year is marked down.
Ill give you one negative. That car is basically identical to the Kia Stinger, which I drove for 4 years. Awesome engine. But I am 6'2 and getting in and out of that car was a chore. I will admit I am over 50 also. Once I was in, it fit fine, but for me and nearly everyone else, the in and out were tough. Last year I bought a low mileage 2017 Genesis G90 5.0 AWD. Much easier to get in and out. I like it more than the Stinger. Not as fast (it aint slow), but I like it better for me. So, size. The G70/Stinger is not a -large- vehicle.
My god, the G90 competes with the Mercedes S-Class. Huge vehicles! I'm 77 years old and have had the 2022 G70 for 3 years. No problem getting into or out of, but I'm only 5' 9". G70 and BMW 3 series are small sports sedans, The G90 is not.
You've lost weight and look younger Motoman. 👍🏾 The styling of this car is simply fantastic. I see it on the road often. I'll be surprised if it gets discontinued, but in a world of SUVs, it's understandable. 😏 If I could afford it used, I'd buy it! 🤑💸
Interestingly and perhaps noteworthy, almost exactly the same size as an E39 BMW, along with the E46, the paragon of all things virtuous :-) - the G70 same wheelbase and just a few inches shorter. Edit: also interesting that the contemporary 3 Series has caught up to the size of the E39, though still hardly has the presence.
Great car, but too expensive. The more luxurious version of the Stinger, which was far less expensive, yet a bit too much more than the Accord 2.0T and Camry V6. How cars like these can help in fighting carbon emissions? They do not. If anything, the 3.3T is not fuel efficient.
@@christo6765 Yes! I have seat extenders in both my cars and the seats are already long and wide enough compared to Toyota. There seats in my experience are exceptionally short. I really wanted to try Toyota's so we bought two in brand new 2018 models and then sold them seven months later because the seats were uncomfortable.
Don't take this the wrong way, but I feel you missing the point of why Civics and Accords still exist, or if you prefer Toyota Corolla and Camry. They are just more affordable than the G70.
Didn't miss it at all. At US$30K for a BRAND NEW AWD Hybrid Camry - stellar deal and yes, orders of magnitude cheaper than this. And if I am honest, for a different buyer. But when Camrys and Accords can hit US$40K +, then I start thinking a 4 cylinder version of this for US$44K.
Great cars when new but their engine and transmission reliability is still like Russian roulette. You might get one that works and makes it 100k no problem or a piece of junk that grenades before 50k. And that kind of unsure feeling isn't going to entice people especially when your talking almost 50k
@@bigden2755 But they are not always at the shop, reliability of ALL cars is way better than in the past. Yes, this is no Corolla, but it is also not at E92 or a pre IMS fix 911. I would rather have good handling with a few xtra trips to the dealer than a car that is not fun to drive that is super reliable.
Sorry but I owned a 2020 G70 3.3t and it was good but not great. I’d go with a M340i any day. My good friend owns a M340i and it doesn’t really compare. If you’ve never owned either of them, then the G70 would be good for you. G70 transmission is terrible. It was slow and after 1 year, it was having issues changing gears, felt clunks until it warmed up. I had brake judder multiple times and dealer wanted to charge me by the 3rd time, terrible pads from factory. Dealerships were worthless trying to fix my issues. Service was terrible , valet was non existent. They would send tech in a Uber to pick up My car. They would take it for joyrides and lunch . I’d get my car back and pass seat was all the way back and my car smelled like fast food. Terrible service and Hyundai dealers. I tried 3 diff ones. Nothing like my previous luxury car dealerships. You get what you pay for , I went G70 to give them a shot and a great price I got for the 3.3t Prestige. Loved the cooled seats though and the factory audio system. Sold the G70 in less than 2 years. M340i is amazing and sounds even better. ZF8 speed is something else paired with that B58
Motoman ignores the fact that electric engines have superior efficiency over gas counterparts. Is it on purpose? Stop the nonsense about government mandates. Nobody told GM to build a Hummer EV.
Frequent viewers know well I encourage discussion and debate in these comments. Even if we disagree. Where do we disagree on your statement? It follows along with exact cherry picking of facts to force whole industries to keelhaul themselves based on a culture war. There was no discussion. No evaluation. No testing theories in small trials before ramping up EV production. No proving if we can commercialize battery production without compromising national security or understand the geopolitical ramifications. Nothing. It was 'Climate Emergency' and if you don't agree you're the problem. This in the face of reams of data showing we can achieve cleaner air - which no one will argue with. So with that as a backdrop, another item no one is going to argue is the efficiency of electric motors. But again, cherry picking facts. Why? How do you create the energy that goes into the battery? What rogue nations do we have do deal with in order to access the minerals? Now, yes, in time, a lot of this may be solved but Brussels and Washington setting the stage for an unrealistic and aggressive transition with the mandates is irresponsible at best. Some OEMs and other stakeholders tried to warn culture warriors turned law makers, but no dice. So now, OEMs around the world (employers) and their employees will bear the brunt this colossal overreach. How did this happen? Normal people didn't stand up to the wrong people crafting critical policy. As someone who has participated in the tech boom, run businesses his entire life and been a life-long car guy, I am no longer willing to sit here and say nothing when this 'nonsense' comes into my corner of the world. So to answer your question: The US government told GM to build the Hummer EV.
@@MotoManTV Thank you for extended response. The ICE engine is lesser efficiency well to wheel than EVs, including making of the electricity. Also there are policies and incentives to source the materials from US-friendly countries already. Let's not pretend that a framework does not exist. And nobody likes to choke on smog, and the transportation sector accounts for large part of that. The dieselgate showed how much OEMs can innovate going around government mandates. If you just follow what is happening to California summers and wildfires, the climate clearly changed. You can no longer insure wildfire-prone properties... So this is not just government mandate. It's a common sense strategy to curb emissions (yes, EVs are still better even if you account for one-time battery manufacturing emissions). And let's take a look at ICE too: speculating that foreign oil will be cheap forever is highly fragile way to go about our economy. The price of oil is dictated by world market, or OPEC at best. Not the US government, especially long term. And gas tax accounts for miniscule amount of the cost, so even lowering taxes would not cause a blip. At this point running a gas car is like hoping that you win the lottery of eternal future cheap oil. Chances are US needs to maintain and extend power generation capacity to power air conditioning and other power hungry means of consumption. EVs with their night charging aren't one of those things that really cause blackouts as some may love to point out.
Appreciate your passion on the topic. While you and I agree on a couple of points here there are some key aspects that are again cherry picking and/or not true. One of the biggest misnomers of the push to electrify everything is a 'one size fits all' solution. Could not be further from the truth. Yes, there may be a 1% of 1% case in the right corner of the globe where well to wheel efficiency can be greater but one cannot make a blanket statement that is the case 100% of the time around the globe. In fact, it is the opposite. You then bring up a great point about the economics of the oil industry. No rational person in touch with economic and geopolitical stability is saying they want to rely on foreign sources of any energy - especially oil. The devil in this detail is hostile energy policies. That is what cripples every aspect of our global economy because the regulators are fighting a culture war through energy policy rather than trying to focus on clean air. Which brings us back to the mandates on OEMs. The car world was indeed a large culprit of emissions. Over the years they made huge strides in cleaning up their act - some on their own and some not so much. More importantly, they continue to improve as a moving target. However, if regulators really want to focus on clean air, they need to be looking at other actors in this telenovela. Yes, we could say logistics companies but even they are doing their part - the real movement needs to come from other nations. The US and Western Europe are doing themselves a disservice by hamstringing their economies while other world players run circles around us. This is python in waiting in the closet because it will cripple the Western world far quicker than most people will realize. Which brings us to a huge point you mentioned that is far closer to home for me, a Californian that is also a pilot. The answer to everything is *not* climate change. The wildfires you see on the news in American West - particularly California are a function of bad governance. Folks like Gavin Newsom talk a big game on 'Climate Emergency' all the while ripping apart the necessary controlled burn fire prevention budget and opening the door to risk, property and loss of life. Again, I discuss these topics in the episodes now more regularly because a culture war I NEVER asked for has creeped into my lane. Practicality and reality have been far too quiet for all the wrong reasons and it is now time for all of us to implement an old saying: 'Ask Why five times and only then you find the real answer'. Good discussion.
I felt the same way about the original 4 cylinder, save for the manual. Then drove the V6, came away impressed thus started to respect the car more. We'll have to book the new 4 cylinder back in LA and try that out in MotoCanyon.
The front clip is real ugly. Also 3,900ish pounds is just too heavy for a less than midsized car. The whole state of the auto industry, even among enthusiast cars, is so dire and unexciting nowadays.

Well.. blame auto manufacturers for not making everyday affordable cars more interesting!
Motoman is the best
a few points.
1. i´m a sucker for white /ivory interiors. so this one looks so appealing for me.
Come on.... with H U D, you don 't really look at the cluster unless a warning shows up......
Drive the upper trim and not the base. The interior is nicer.
Funny, I have NEVER seen one in rental service and let's just sayI travel A LOT!
@@MotoManTV I rented it from Avis at the San Antonio Airport.
@@MotoManTV AVIS!
This is good sport sedan from genesis😊
I’m so disappointed they’re discontinuing this car
Nicely done
I get such contradictory impressions from the G70. Some journalists say these aren't sporty enough, others suggest its quite capable! If I could I'd drive ome myself and finally get a clue
Same.....such mixed reviews
They're way more of a driver's car than any S audi for example, even than the C43.
Many journalist are spoiled by all the high-end sports cars.
@@kenv8166 I believe this is a major problem as well. The drive a Ferrari......then suddenly the genisis is not sporty enough
It is plenty sporty, and that's in comfort mode.
Cool car. These appear to be discounted steeply and low mileage CPOs are extremely cheap. However, I wonder about the Genesis dealer network.
Good suggestion. Motoman loves imports!
Hyundai/Kia quality is still an issue. Mine, with under 10,000 miles, was in service for 108 days in 2023. Servicing dealer and corporate were exceptionally terrible.
had a Hyundai for 9 years. The car stayed flawless just with regular maintenance. So I bought a G70 3.3T after that. Also no issue.
My 2019 stinger has not experienced the problems you describe.
What were the issues ??
Hot take, with the stinger gone this needs to cover the stinger's space too. Meaning a lot more fun colors. Let's get that magma edition orange over here 😂
The G70 is also getting discontinued though. Last model year will be 2025 as I understand it. There are no plans for a replacement so Genesis will no longer compete in the compact luxury sedan segment.
I love my '24 3.3T RWD Sports Prestige. Looks good and drives better!
That shot with the Mustang looks like Isle of Capri in SW Florida.😊
Keen eye! That is in Goodland, Florida - just east of Marco Island. A very local place called 'Stan's Idle Hour'.
@@MotoManTV,I was there last Monday evening at Memorial day,in "Little bar".😆 That restaurant was ONLY ONE open there, all other restaurants were closed.😂
I visited Goodland after a good 10 years at least,I'm living in Fort Myers now, previously I lived on Marco Island.
Goodland is such a tiny place,I can't believe we almost met in that Village. 🤣
Isle of Capri is located from other side of Marco island,as you probably know.
This is funny,small world.
I wish they would fix the headlight seal issue where water gets inside, it makes what otherwise would be an extremely good looking car look cheap asf in the rain or high humidity weather, the headlight would damn near be filled up with water.
Lost me when they did the styling update a few years ago. Packaging on the manual version made me think someone within Genesis wanted it to fail.
In my eyes this particular spec is very tasteful and elegant. The lighter color scheme is welcome under the Texas sun.
Why in the h-ll is the sunroof so far back? That is going to do the front passengers no good.
Appreciate the real world feedback.
G70 wheel base is actually a few inches shorter.
Love my Genny!
You've lost weight and look younger Motoman. 👍🏾
The styling of this car is simply fantastic. I see it on the road often. I'll be surprised if it gets discontinued, but in a world of SUVs, it's understandable. 😏
If I could afford it used, I'd buy it! 🤑💸
Thank you for noticing . . .
So, how do you keep cars like these and lower carbon emissions? You mentioned it twice, but didn't elaborate.
I own one, so I’m doing my part
No more G70 after 2025, per Genesis. Sad. :(
I really like my thigh extender. Seems like a small thing, though many manufacturers make short seat bottoms.
yea, most do not know how to design seat bottoms! My 1982 third gen Z28 had seat extenders!! Wake up world.
The G70 was obviously absent from the Magma line up so isn’t the writing on the wall? 15:15
more co2 is good...the EV market is in trouble
Don't take this the wrong way, but I feel you missing the point of why Civics and Accords still exist, or if you prefer Toyota Corolla and Camry. They are just more affordable than the G70.
Didn't miss it at all. At US$30K for a BRAND NEW AWD Hybrid Camry - stellar deal and yes, orders of magnitude cheaper than this. And if I am honest, for a different buyer. But when Camrys and Accords can hit US$40K +, then I start thinking a 4 cylinder version of this for US$44K.
First to buy cars, markups should be illegal.
nice,,, that mileage is really bad thou
Great cars when new but their engine and transmission reliability is still like Russian roulette. You might get one that works and makes it 100k no problem or a piece of junk that grenades before 50k. And that kind of unsure feeling isn't going to entice people especially when your talking almost 50k
Nothing about what you said is true. Tons of G70s and Stinger's with high mileage and zero problems. Even highly tuned ones.
I think specifically the high output 4 cylinders are the most volatile
Mostly from people with trash cam tunes of piggy backs
This or the Giulia?
I would rather drill a hole in my head than daily an Alfa. Hopefully I have not been unclear.
@@MotoManTVA knife in the heart.
@@MotoManTV Wow, I thought the Alfa handling was supposed to be class leading for the sports sedan segment?
@@93455Driver Ya but what good is that if the car is always at the shop ...
Keeping my Stinger!
They would send tech in a Uber to pick up
My car.
ZF8 speed is something else paired with that B58
lets not forget about Dodge!
OK, what I’m gonna do. I’m not gonna buy an electric car. That’ll help. Keep those cars on the road a little bit…lol😂
Motoman taught you to run a long hedge on cheap foreign oil. The government does not control long term oil prices, the “world” and OPEC does.
❤🎉❤
100% Greek
Hyundai confirmed the G70 is being discontinued without a direct replacement. RIP.
They are going to have an entry luxury car one way or another. It's a cash cow segment.
@@biglee13mthe GV70 SUV will be their entry model, while the midsize G80 will be their smallest sedan. No plan for any entry level sedan.

I felt the same way about the original 4 cylinder, save for the manual. Then drove the V6, came away impressed thus started to respect the car more. We'll have to book the new 4 cylinder back in LA and try that out in MotoCanyon.
I still don't like those stupid double head and tail lights and the even stupider superman grill.
