I don't particularly like using bead-head nymphs and tying with copper wire is a great way to take the fly down somewhat. Beautiful tie and great tips well done!
Most significant item if I may be permitted to say Davie is the quality of your hands. I imagined at times you sanding and oiling them and outright visitations to the local manicurist. And I have read and listened to tiers declaring the state or condition of ones hands is key to success handling most materials. Wrapping floss for example. Anyhow it’s the method you used for tying this fly I came to learn and appreciate. I’ve seen you use it prior to this one. I spent the early spring tying these pt’s in two colors of wire, red and bright copper fine on 14’s. Haven’t had an opportunity to get them wet so far. But soon I hope. Thanks for lesson of your hands.

I did enjoy it, Davie... thank you. I've been meaning to look for copper wire to use instead of lead. Looked up tonight: British Standard Wire Gauge (SWG) 40 is 0.0048" and 42 is 0.004". American Wire Gauge (AWG) is different 36 is 0.005" and 38 is 0.00397. From memory of measuring UTC X-Small wires it's about 0.004 or plus just a little. I didn't find UTC wire in bulk anywhere. The coating would be an advantage, I think. Mike
Hi TylerJ21, Make sure that the bobbin isn't too tight but not too loose so that when you wind the wire it flows smoothly from the bobbin holder as this helps just as much as using a ceramic version.. All the very best Davie

Found this... www.remingtonindustries.com/magnet-wire/magnet-wire-38-awg-enameled-copper-6-spool-sizes/?sku=38SNSP.125&gclid=CPD64tmj2eICFQq9wAodvFoI2g I believe this is the type of wire originally used on the Pheasant Tail nymph. The enameling would keep the wire from corroding though it's purpose is to keep electricity from jumping wire to wire in motor windings. Mike

Question, when I'm dubbing and winding the wire/thread around the hook it seems like my dubbing unwinds. Is there a right or wrong direction to wind your dubbing onto the thread? I know as you wind your thread can twist more, would this also affect your dubbing?

Hello, One of the main reason for pheasant tail fibres separating when winding up the body is down to tying onto an uneven layer of thread causing the fibres to spread out and separate this also happens with the wing as the smoother the better..I hope this is of some help to you..
