Ima need an SNL sketch with Aubrey and Conan O'Brien doing their old timey voices, and John Mulaney just talking normally
…John never did, afaik.
John Mulaney is epic at these speech patterns
When "old timey" voice is done right (good writing) it can take your breath away. You can pack so many quips in such a small space, it can overload the funny bone. 👍
Bill Hader too, if he picks up some pace
Say, sister, you suggesting 'old timey voices' hey? Who sent you, hey? Get out of here, hit the bricks kid, I tell you, scram! Yaw. 👍🇬🇧
"what's natural about that?"
"the causes"
saw it coming from a mile away and still the delivery took me out 🤣
So nice to see Janet Snakehole booked and busy… but surely it should be Burt Macklin on the case?!
Who??
i was thinking the same thing haha!
That would've been the icing and ice cream!!!!
@@danielwilliams7562 On Parks and Rec, Aubrey and Chris Pratt's characters liked to role play criminal/detective, and those were their names.
@@phatmonkey11 thanks, I remember but did not the other name
"Is it a crime to want a man who can eat a plum to completion?"
What the hell 😭😭😭
🤣😭
interesting that the subtitles skipped that part.
@@jetsamperes5762 omg you're right! 😡
@@jetsamperes5762 last minute cue card changes probably. happens sometimes
A split plumb at that, sweet cheeks.
"Of course a knockout like you walks in the night before my rhinoplasty" omfg I'm dying 🤣🤣🤣 what a good sport he is. The best line in the entire sketch 👌
I'm happy to see James Austin Johnson getting to break out of just doing impressions or playing supporting parts. He fits into those black and white '40s roles to a tee, so much like what Jon Lovitz or Phil Hartman used to do. You could tell they had to rush this to get it into the episode, but everybody involved did a good job and I hope it's just the start for these types of sketches coming back onto the show.
What do you mean “these types of sketches”?
@@MereCashmere The old black and white types with all the emphasis on the fast wordplay and the noir sendups. We get a few but usually they're more campy movie parodies, like Cinema Classics.
He's doing an impression of a 40's Film Noir Private Eye.
Duh.
I hope so too. JAJ is really versatile, & he's the 1st cast member I've seen comfortably & seamlessly pull off a bunch of sketches/main characters from day one on the show! 💜
Definitely! I miss those Lovitz and Hartman sketches. Funny and insightful.
Aubrey getting to play a whole range of characters in all the sketches last night was an absolute treat. There’s just something about this film noir one in particular that’s simply *chef kiss*, it’s so perfect. She just Gets It!!!! Ugh!!!! Love it
Her delivery was so perfect
Janet Snakehole but all grown up 💙
@@missdeanna Exactly, we're ready for the feature-length film!!!
Born too late...
So if she could have been in a movie with Humphrey Bogart, she would be the Wicked Widow who just didn't give a damn.
“Murdered for reasons that would throw old Siggy Freud for a loop”
My favourite line in the sketch lmao somehow I’ve never heard anyone call Freud “Siggy” till now. That’s the only thing I’m gonna call him from now on.
I like "Is it a crime to want a man who can eat a plum to completion?" Lolol
I think he was called 'Siggy' in _Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure_ IIRC.
😂😂😂
@@addisonratcatcher3287 I loved that line too! 😂
@@Ou8y2k2 I've also heard the nickname in an episode of Frasier.
“The causes” 😂😂😂😂😂
Now I really need to see Aubrey Plaza in some real film noir. She's a knockout in vintage garb. But she's pretty much a knockout in any era.
HARD facts. she is canonically Cleopatra in my head now after that Drunk History skit. Hell, she looked amazing as Aaron Burr in THAT Drunk History skit.
Real film noir ended in the late '50s so no chance for that unfortunately.
@@shougokawada8491 mid 1960s but yah pretty close.
Real film noir might be over but Aubrey really "gets" the 1930's sensibility of the genre.
"That Plaza dame is one smart cookie" Lol
@@chino3796 Perfect!
"Eat a plum to completion"💀
That's the one 😭
Lmfao
🤣🤣🤣
The best line in that sketch lmao
The light balance on this skit is beautiful.
"Can really stink up a chair." Lmfao
Sharon Stone! Wow this one had so many celebs in it!
Thank you! I couldn’t figure out who that was.
Even if I had a crystal ball, I’d never guess that Sharon Stone, Tony Hawk, and the property brothers would be the guests tonight
Don't forgot Amy Poles!
@@kentjg32 Poehler
and Allison Williams in the m3gan skit
@@kentjg32 I could’ve guessed Amy being in SNL. I’m talking about the wild ones that make me ask myself what the conversation even was to get them on the episode.
@@sarataj6128 that was a fun surprise but she made sense. Tony Hawk and the property brothers do not 😂
Omg the way he delivers that rhinoplasty joke .. I love it
SNL really does these period pieces well. Aubrey NAILED this part so very well. ‘Mother’ pshowing up was unsuspected. I like them desperate and kooky🤣
Does anyone know who the blonde actress is? Is that really Aubrey Plaza's mother?
@@BillStrathearnI thought it was Jessica Lange but I’m not sure and have been scrolling the comments to see if anyone else mentioned it!
@@BillStrathearn Sharon Stone
Sharon Stone😉
@@JasonZakrajsekThat was Sharon Stone?! Didn’t recognize her.
Aubrey did an awesome job selling her Black widow character. I've always seen her as a real Femme Fatale anyway. I just hope her husband's doing okay right now.
The tiny gun really got me😭
Edit: wait, I came back to see the cute little gun again and the one he was holding was so small I didn't t even see it💀
Did you notice the skit ends with the shadow of his "big nose" on the wall? It was genius! 😆👃👃👃
Janet Snakehole!! I was waiting for Bert Macklin to show up :((
I just posted the same comment!🤣
Aubrey Plaza slayed as a femme fatale!
And Sharon Stone showed that she can still play one after all these years.
Best host in a long time. She killed every sketch. This one was perfect for her
Some host get terrible sketches others get gold mines
I like the way Aubrey really throws herself into whatever she's doing.
Sorry, I accidentally deleted my question asking who was the blonde. THANK YOU to whoever it was that told me it was Sharon Stone!
It took me a minute. I thought it was Madonna at first.
Not gonna lie, I thought James was closer to (if not already) 40, so when he said he was 33 in the sketch I looked it up & yep that's his age.
He was telling the truth about the alcohol it seems
thank you I was about to check as well
Oof
Aubrey is 40
That's insane. I'm 33, and I feel like he's old enough to be my dad...
A man who never uses his turn signals and yells at raccoons in his yard 🤣
I can't help but think that someone has been spying on me.
Whoever did set design killed it
The old perverts.
Thanks
The set was the funniest part of the sketch.
"I just look older 'cuz I'm an alcoholic."
💀
who else got janet snakehole vibes from this?
The lighting in this skit is absolutely gorgeous.
This sketch is absolute gold. I revisit it and still laugh out loud. Smart writing, tight pacing, killer dames and pitch-perfect genre vibes.
JANET SNAKEHOLE!!! You knew this one was coming bc of Parks and Rec. Really expected Bert Macklin would show up. Sidenote: still trying to figure out how that is Sharon Stone.
She was appearing in one of Sam Smith's performances so I assume they asked 'Since you're already going to be here.....'
I love this style 40s style skit, please SNL make more.
I think Aubrey was meant to be a 1940s actress, she just ended up being born a bit too late.
You can't be born 40 years too late. The most is few days after the expected due date.
Wth are you talking about smh
EXACTLY!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
she would be awful as a 40s actress lol wtf
She better at poking fun at the 1940s show than anything.
I was little worried about the large on-screen staff turnover before the season but this show is in good hands
Same here. Normally, transition/rebuilding years on Saturday Night Live is when the show's quality is in the toilet (or near it) and not even Weekend Update can lift it out. But this season is actually not doing that bad, which makes me wonder if Lorne is getting better at finding good comedic talent or if the Aidy Bryant/Kate McKinnon/Cecily Strong era isn't as funny as perceived and only now we're seeing what SNL is like when it's firing on all cylinders.
I like a detective sketch, and he does it very well.
They got the 40s dialogue and delivery exactly right. Nice.
....sure whatever you say
Sharon Stone looks 🤩!
I thought it was Jessica Lange
Would definitely watch a whole film with Aubrey in this role. Damn 🤩
Omg, Sharon Stone! Hope she gets to come back, she definitely has things to say and mock how she's been seen and typecast(ed).
It's just typecast.
That was Samantha Bee..
@@Tao_Tology 'Typecasted' is an acceptable form for the past participle tense, just less common. It's of the pattern like broadcast -> broadcasted.
@@kindablue1959 'acceptable'
You don't need an altered version.
Cast is fine.
@@Tao_Tology You don't need to think you own the language. 'typecasted' is fine.
She has the longest list of movies I've never seen, but this!
This I need more of 😂
She's definitely studied the genre
Sublime. Stone just gets better and better. Would love to see this mother-daughter team in a film.
Love Janet Snakehole in every role she does!
"Feels like I may need to threaten someone with my gun. Better swap this whiskey to my left hand"
Best SNL skit I've seen in ages. Well done. I'd like to see more skits like this.
Aubrey Plaza looks so beautiful with this 40's hairstyle. She looks born with it
Great sketch. Vibe, setup, quirks--hit some really funny beats start to finish.
This whole sketch was executed to perfection!
Just like all her old man husbands.
@@Tao_Tology🤣🤣🤣
Perfection. AND Completion.
@@mj6962 perfectly in the plum of completion.
Aubrey Plaza is hysterical. She's an absolute chameleon.
This is one of my favorite skits out of the whole episode!!
im sorry but this skit was horrible. nowadays, snl has a few really good skits throughout the duration of a few months which is really sad considering almost every skit used to be hilarious
You can tell Aubrey loves playing these types of roles, it was always referenced in parks and recs
Sharon Stone?!
everyone was great in this
What a good sketch. Aubrey is so good. She's a killer.
Literally!
"I like the way their kisses taste like a cough"
Riveting. I was clutching my pearls the whole time.
Production value is lit in this one
"Of course a knock-out like you walk in the night before my rhinoplasty" hihihi
Is no one gonna mention Sharon Stone showing up??!
I love this stuff it’s my favorite when they do old movies
this is my favorite skit!!!
That Sharon Stone cameo was off the charts random.
There needs to be a comedy series that's filmed just like this!
Lmao 😂😂 snl is starting 2023 off on a roll
gives "who's line is it anyway" vibes
Why hasn't SNL had any of those guys on the show, those guys were geniuses
the hair and wardrobe are amazing!
Honestly I can’t think of a more star-studded episode.
I would watch this for real.
I love the fact Audrey plaza brought back April's femme Fatale character
This is the best sketch of the show!!! it just looks older cause its an alchoholic.
This sketch was somehow equally for Aubrey Plaza as it was for Sharon Stone.
Was that Sharon Stone?? I thought it was Jessica Lange!
@@clothilde1623 I thought that also.
A man who eats dinner early ...I like that 😂
Sharon looks great [#goals] & she was hilarious in this skit, Audrey too of course. So glad to see Sharon doing well. Neither of these two gals even have to try to hard to kill comically, such naturals. 🤣🙌✌️👌
Sharon Stone and Aubrey look great in film noir Sharon's got to do more like this
Yall didn't tell me Janet Snakehole was hosting SNL??!?!
Janet Snakehole is back!
This is very reminiscent of and 80's SNL bit "First Draft Theater" with Chris Guest as the PI.
"Then, she walked in. With the kind of legs that started at her ankle, went to her hip, and bent at the knee... You know the type."
"You two-timed me, the last two times."
Janet Snakehole back in action!
Wasn't expecting to see Sharon Stone, but I barely recognized her.
James Austin's mid-drink-hand-switch correction at 0:17 so he could smoothly grab his gun with his right hand - so good. Stage actors know what's up. And double respect for hosts that put in the work and take big risks to crush out so many wild characters like AP did on this one.
This skit is pure genius. Best I've seen on SNL in a loooong time.
Like dribbles of knock-off 7-11 Gatorade in the rain. I loved the writing here.
This was soo good, my favorite of the night.
Love that little snarl she gives him at 2:48
This was really good.
"I guess you never solve your last case" ... Profound
The "plum to completion" line had stayed in my head for months, lol.
1:03 ... "The causes." Perfectly delivered.
Gotta love dramatic mid-Atlantic accents.
Aubrey is just so great😊
This is a perfect character for Aubrey
My favorite of this episode
the janet snakehole comeback is
amazing
Aubrey Plaza is having a moment right now
I love black and white old timey sketch
That was such a quick resolution
The wink at the end hahahaaa
Okay... with all the awesomeness throughout this skit, it's 2:53 to 2:55 (ish) that just drags me behind the shed and kills me. Well played, Sharon Stone... brilliantly well played...
i was really hoping fbi agent Burt Macklin came in to arrest "Janet Snakehole" instead
