To say "less known prominent" is an understatement, bro...There would be NO Nirvana if there were not a Mud Honey, Pixies, and Sonic Youth. Nirvana is a"mosh pit" of the three stellar groups!!
My statement is true, though, I agree numerous other groups also influenced (the groups you mentioned included...also, Devo!), the birth of Nirvana. Nirvana was a mosh pit of numerous groups. That is why the phrase, "Then there was NIRVANA.." exist. Nirvana was the resulting accumulating alt rock eruption that had been building for many years. my buddy jason turned me onto mudhoney back in 1992, right about the same time nirvana, pearl jam and soundgarden were climbing up the charts and grunge was king. everyone thought this band was gonna blow up big on the coattails of nirvana, but they didn't. i saw them play with sonic youth at lake castaic that same year. kurt cobain came out onstage and sang a song on the acoustic guitar in between the bands. that was the only time i ever got to see anything close to nirvana. anyways, this video is a classic.
That's like when I got to see Foo Fighters like weeks after The Colour and the Shape came out in '97, and I was front row right in front of Dave thinking to myself "This is the closest I will ever be physically to a member of Nirvana." Seeing Dave in person that close was a very odd feeling, considering that he was almost a mythical creature to me and my friends before then.
@livingstillbirth this song came out a year after Smells Like Teen Spirit, and it was 107.7 the end, in Seattle, where these bands are from that propelled the alternative sound of the 90's to the national stage.
