Crazed Joe, I see your point about the six months on the run. But I believe there is more there than meets the eye. When he came back to town to kill Jack’s crew he told Skyler he did it all for himself, not the family. He didn’t tell Skyler that he left his money to Gretchen and Elliot to give to Walter Jr. on his 18th birthday. He didn’t care about getting the credit anymore, as long as what he did wasn’t for nothing. He also didn’t hesitate to kill Jack when he offered to tell him where his money was after the machine gun had stopped running and Jack was negotiating for his life. To me, there was more character growth there and his journey was fully completed once he died in the Finale. If you remember he was still full of desperate bravado in Granite State, and six months later he was resigned to turning himself in initially. Then he decided to make a last stand in the Finale. So, I still believe that his Heisenberg transformation was over a two year period.
The Ace Attorney breakdowns are built on the bombastic confessions of Perry Mason (which Chuck references) and Columbo. Ace Attorney was inspired by American detective shows - its storytelling structure of showing the crime first is also taken directly from Columbo.
This is made better by the fact that it’s very common for characters to have pun names in Ace Attorney and Jimmy’s alias “Saul Goodman” is a pun of the phrase “(It)’s all good man.”
This is pure gold. These outlandish circumstances would fit right in a Phoenix Wright game. I love that one of the most heartbreaking, bittersweet scenes is just followed by confetti and cheers. Like It's now on the record that Chuck is both mentally unstable and hates his brother, everyone is just floored, then it just turns into a party.
In many ways Chuck is correct in his observations of Jimmy, but for all Jimmy's faults he likes people and his clever mind, unlike Chuck's, doesn't move in straight lines. His 'deviousness' is the ability to problem solve creatively. He's also much more grounded than Chuck with a great sense of humour. Chuck is visibly uncomfortable in the dinner party scene when Jimmy charms Chuck's wife with all his lawyer gags. Another deep wound for Chuck. First, their parents, then his wife.
@@yisussb He definitely would've. All Jimmy wanted was to make Chuck proud of him. I think he would've played it straight, even if he didn't like it, just to please his brother, but Chuck never supported him

The point, argumentative and legally is flawless. Buuuuut: law is rarely an objective sterile field. Emotion and bias are always part of the deal.
If Chuck managed to resist in that moment he would've been golden. Jimmy just committed a crime here: incitement to battery (clever wordplay). He proved that he's indeed a crooked lawyer who's not above using dirty tactics. Even if he successfully proved Chuck's illness being psychological, he had to take responsibility for all the damage Chuck might've suffered from it (you can't just put a fake spider on the back of an arachnophobic person either). That in combination with his other tactics used here (inviting Chuck's wife and talking about their relation to put pressure on him for instance) would've guaranteed his downfall. And Chuck's lawyer wad about to put the nail on his coffin by clarifying that Chuck's illness was not at issue here. Jimmy's point is that he destroyed the tape because he was mad at his brother who hates him, not because it was incriminating for him. And to prove it he had to expose Chuck's feelings for him in front of everyone. A foolproof plan that only Chuck himself could've possibly foiled, but alas his giant ego and hatred towards Jimmy was his downfall.
5:37 my god - jimmy knew what he was going to do next and you could see that small moment of hesitation on his face for the potential consequences it would have on his brother - even at the height of their conflict
This moment, but also when he asked how did Chuck know it would work and when he asked Chuck to check his breast pocket. There's hesitation, almost shame in his voice. He knows what he's doing and what'll happen next. Things are following according to plan, Chuck's falling for the trap. Yet Jimmy knows that what's about to happen and that's going to destroy Chuck. Which is not something Jimmy inherently wants to. But it has to be done
I've been rewatching Better Call Saul and it blows me away how intricate the plot is. Chuck sees right through Jimmy. To an outsider it would sound like he's become a paranoid recluse and has lost touch with reality, but he's right about everything.
Chuck was only right about Jimmy because he would never give him a chance to redeem himself. It was a self fulfilling prophecy. It was Chuck that ultimately put Jimmy back on the path of being a conman because he afforded no faith in him whatsoever. And if his only family hated him, what was the point? He just decided to do what he was good at and the world be damned.
Except that he's wrong about everything. It was only through Chuck constantly sabotaging Jimmy and never giving him a chance that Jimmy became Saul Goodman. Jimmy was trying to turn his life around, and would have, if not for Chuck's hatred for his little brother.
But look how Jimmy has cared for his brother during his illness. Jimmy may have his faults but he looked after Chuck and helped him back. What did Chuck do for Jimmy? Got him a job in the mail room. Period. He laughed at Jimmy's law degree and would never let him rise to a level commensurate with his talents. Forget any idea of partnership.

As much as you root for Jimmy, Chuck IS right about him on everything. Chuck's flaw is that it's not simply principle motivating his crusade against Jimmy, but also jealous resentment: being brilliant in the law was the one thing he had over Jimmy, something he'd earned through all the proper channels, then Jimmy comes along online course and all and he's undeniably brilliant at it. Better even. Even if it is the more "cheating" way of doing it. Both their approaches are technically legal, but opposite in principle. While Chuck must stick to the moral way of doing law, Jimmy on principle refuses to abide by the system seeing it as something you're either played by or something you game. His dad played fair and got taken advantage of all the time.

Why do you say New Mexico Area like it’s alien, like saying the Virginia Area, it sounds weird
Glad someone made this because the episode really did give me the AA rush when Chuck explodes.

The Ace Attorney breakdowns are built on the bombastic confessions of Perry Mason (which Chuck references) and Columbo. Ace Attorney was inspired by American detective shows - its storytelling structure of showing the crime first is also taken directly from Columbo.

Chuck was better than him at anything intellectual. He had to find something he was good at.
It's actually a very common thing for siblings.
I feel like if chuck had actually supported jimmy in his decision if being a lawyer and had accepted him in his firm he would have changed

Chuck's lawyer made a judgement error by saying "if he was schizophrenic". Could have phrased that any other way,but the wording upset chuck the most.
Yeah, i like it when side characters are actually pretty competent. Chuck would've lost a lot less face if he just let his lawyer do the thing
He was trying to save Chuck by making the point that someone's mental illness doesn't mean they're wrong.
@@EndOfSmallSanctuary97 If he knew Chuck more intimately, he would've made the same point with a less problematic wording for his client gigantic, ridiculous fuckin ego. The point, argumentative and legally is flawless. Buuuuut: law is rarely an objective sterile field. Emotion and bias are always part of the deal.
Hmm yes lore of better call Saul

Unrelated but they did a great job casting chuck. He really looks like he could be bob odenkirks older brother. Same face same ears same nose
And a fellow comedian like Bob Odenkirk
I've been rewatching Better Call Saul and it blows me away how intricate the plot is. Chuck sees right through Jimmy. To an outsider it would sound like he's become a paranoid recluse and has lost touch with reality, but he's right about everything.
He's right, and also a massive asshole.
Obviously he was going to know that because he led him down that path with his hatred and lack of faith towards his brother.
