Man sootch, the country would really truly benefit if every family had a father figure like you. Everything that meets the eye about you are great qualities. I could go down the list but what is understood does not have to be explained. You're an awesome person & I hope your family understands how fortunate they all are. Have a great day.
I'd agree but would also add Wranglerstar in there too as I like his focus on doing things the right way (not necessarily the quickest), taking pride in your work, integrity above all, and living to traditional values and not bowing to political correctness
As a woman I've been using velcro for years! It ALSO does help in some situations to sew it on! It does sew easily and you can keep it rolled up when NOT using it!! Keep doing what you're doing! We all need to hear\be reminded of what we need in a shtf situation!!
Creators like Sootch and others provide a wealth of knowledge to those who have an open mind. For those that are constantly giving thumbs down, try giving a thumbs up to show you are appreciative of the creators efforts to share their knowledge.
I was just thinking to myself this morning about how miss these types of videos that you do. I have a prep binder and i try to jot down all of your uses for everyday stuff. Thank you for the info, youre the best!
Hi Sootch! I have small sets of velcro that I used to combine two or three of them to wrap big things, minimalist style. Very informative this topic is. Thanks Sootch.
Tele data cable guy here for a tip- go to your electrical supply store. You can get 50’ rolls for about $20. Graybar, Anixter.. I do kayak camping which means very minimal gear but I use the heck out of velcro. “Hook and loop”. Cheers
I’ve been using Velcro for years. We use them to manage network cables, power cords, music cabling. I’ve used them to “lock” a gate, from the inside of course. Never thought about the backpack idea. You can pretty use them anywhere paracord or zip ties can/would be used.
Great video! When I'm bored I take 2 pieces of adhesive velcro and make my own patches and straps. The adhesive is virtually impossible to pull apart and doubling up the velcro makes them incredibly strong.
Great video from Sootch as always. They sell velcro (hook and loop system) at dollar tree. It's a nice little pack for a buck. Even if the adhesive wears off it can easily be stitched on. They have a few little things for one dollar that's actually worth picking up. They have these litte double sides sticky tabs. They are supposed to be picture mounts I think. Those things are amazing! The adhesive is freaking super strong. Very good for attaching things flat against each other.
I got a 60 pk of 6 inch die-cut Velcro straps to tidy up my computer cables on my desktop, and then realized that these are the reusable answer to those disposable zip-ties I've been using on my electric corded tools! No more waste and no more cluster of black worms in my tool chest drawers! They're awesome!
As an electrician and programmer I highly recommend the "endless roll" of velcro (100-150 ft). They come in different widths, are relatively cheap and have better contact area (not so much pinching of cables n stuff) than your standard cable ties. For starters, search for "cable tie velcro".
I recently bought a roll of velcro because I realized how nice it is for things. So I'm getting more for our bags. Edit: I just bought regular ole velcro. Still has endless purposes.
And I thought that this was my secret. Have been using it for years and passing it on to others. You are only limited by your imagination. This is a great tip.
The die cut straps with the slot in one end can be wrapped around one strand of an extension cord, in order to secure it to the extension cord itself, then wrap it around the rest of the coil. That way it stays attached and you don't loose it! I use them on all my extension cords and they are readily available at Home Depot, Lowes, and Harbor Freight.
Sensible Prepper, Like many I am a recent convert to prepping. Into it about 6 weeks. My first focus was water. As my luck would have it my water pipes burst under the slab in my house today. The plumber cant do anything until Friday. My preps are already paying off. I have water to drink, bath and flush due to my preps. It felt great being ready. (still had to go to the in-laws to wash clothes tho...) Got to fix that.
Velcro for tent straps. Velcro for pant legs. to keep air out. Velcro for bed roll. To keep it all compact.. in place it will always be there. Yes love Velcro.
I use velcro cable ties for attaching my folding 63 watt solar charging to a PVC frame. It has tie-outs built in, so I just used the loops to hold it. The frame I built gives it rigidity and allows it to be stood or hung anywhere, and breaks down to fit in a backpack.
Use plastic PET bottles for dry good like macaroni, flour, sugar, rice, beans, coffee. They are very practical in your back pack. If hung by a string or wire rodents won't get to your food even if you store it in your bug out camp long term. You could even bury it in sand, dirt or gravel.
I love velcro and use a lot of it, mostly the industrial strength velcro. One hack I used was on the dashboard of my Jeep SUV. I was constantly needing a clipboard at the bank outside teller position to sign documents for transactions, e.g. cashier's checks. Trying to write on the cross member of the steering wheel wasn't working. A clipboard I kept between the front seats kept slipping down to where I had to struggle to retrieve it. I placed a piece of velcro loop on the dashboard of the passenger side and a piece of hook velcro on the back of one of those two compartment document holder clipboards. I store my overland folded maps inside and the map of the area of travel in the see-through plastic section. The dash mounted clipboard serves several purposes, storage of maps, see-through for current travel map, storage for pens, pencils, ruler, protractor and when I separate the clipboard from the dash I have a "desk" to write on. Not only do I keep an IFAK for medical reasons I also keep an IFAK for my Jeep. The Jeep's IFAK has velcro (strips and patches), cable ties of various sizes and lengths, one inch gorilla tape, two inch duct tape, small and large hair bands, large rubber bands, ranger bands, small gauge wire, electrical tape, Fiskars scissors, wire cutters, a Bic lighter. This is in addition to tools, portable jump starter, fire extinguisher, emergency flashers with magnets and multiple other emergency items and extraction gear.
Thanks for the first tip! I have two plastic keepers but if I want more I have to mail order them while I can pick up the velcro locally. I also wore out the rubber cord on one plastic keeper because it wore thin where it was rubbing against my back. The second tip is much easier than webbing as it secures to itself while webbing is often much longer and now you need a keeper. Don't use velcro where silence is needed.
If it' not carrying any weight. You can find a whole roll in the gardening section for super cheap. It will be a light green but we will just call that 'camo'
Velcro is a very cheap and secure strapping method, however it does cake up with dirt/grime and is not stealth friendly when opening. For every day or if not in an E&E situation it’s awesome!
What brand was the Allen key set you put in the glove box. I'd love to see a video about different tools preppers should have; hand tools, power tools, yard tools, etc.
Velcro straps now in shortage due to this video.😉 I recommend using bottle of Goo Gone to remove the adhesive from the velcro strap if placed incorrectly.
Velcro is a thing of beauty. I bought 4 really expensive Japanese velcro cable fasteners for my PC many years back. Immediately realised how awesome they were, and how I overpaid. Went on Amazon and realised that armed with only some assorted reals of velcro, a sewing kit and perhaps some glue, I practically had a toolkit right there. I rate the stuff right up there with gaffer tape now. and those expensive japanese cable ties are now in my prepper kit. Brilliant video. My only criticism of velcro is that for stealth .... just no lol
Shut the hell up... Why the hell didn't I ever think of that... No like literally I've never thought of that ... Dude thank you lol. I'm definitely going to do that now
Unfortunately noisy but might work for those places you're not likely to change position of. Backpack straps need to be secured in something that can be easily adjusted in full, if needed quickly, without sound, giving away your location or action (if that could be a concern).
be VERY careful when you cutoff any "extra" Velcro after you cinch it tight. You will probably be shorted the next time you use that piece. It's better to tuck it in somewhere. I replaced the laces on my hiking boots with Velcro astraps and D rings. It never comes loose, like the laces did.
I make saddles and tack by trade and constantly have guys come in and ask to have gear customized. I alter all my gear out of the box. Get some real sewing supplies and QUALITY(not the fabric store) materials like velcro, webbing, elastic, fabric, rivets, and leather. Most workshops will gladly give you scrap or even stitch it for you on an industrial machine.
I see one problem with your use of the small strap on the cords: it is TOO easy to lose the strap when you take it off for use. I make a loop and thread one end thru, then use the rest of the strap to wrap up the rest of the cord. This way when you undo it, it stays on the cord and ready for re-wrapping.
Harbor freight carries a bag of different sizes of Velcro, I picked them up thinking what could I use them for that all the other cords and tape can't do? Know I know I should have bought the bag to have around. I was thinking about the cords on my tool's need to have Velcro when putting them away.
I'll add a use I had a basket with road side stuff in my trunk before I added a bunch of stuff. It would always slide around so I put tape Velcro on the bottom the hook side and it didn't move anymore.
Excellent tips, here, especially the backpack ones....thank you. My wife works at a Velcro factory....over the years I have become very 'attached' to her. Attached? Get it? Velcro.....? Hello? Is this thing on?

VERY well said. He's a good guy.

I clicked on this video purely just for the entertainment factor and it turned out to be way more useful than I thought it would be. Very cool.
I never stopped to consider all the uses for Velcro! And the end of the bloopers was hilarious!
I was just thinking to myself this morning about how miss these types of videos that you do. I have a prep binder and i try to jot down all of your uses for everyday stuff. Thank you for the info, youre the best!
I’ve been using these for about 8-9 years. Another great thing is they are not affected by the weather.
Hi Sootch! I have small sets of velcro that I used to combine two or three of them to wrap big things, minimalist style. Very informative this topic is. Thanks Sootch.
Finally, I have something to put my Lincoln Logs together, lol.
Right on, right on, right on! 10-4 good buddy! The only thing better would be silent velcro! See ya on the flip side...
Can be used for an impromptu tourniquet in the field. That was a great video.
The velcro/molle combination is great. It even comes in tan.

Velcro straps are great attachments to conceal carry a small pouch on your ankle, Dec, first aid, etc.
Where do you get them?
I made them.
Very convenient items!Although we manufactured them everyday, but now I learnt more function from this video👍
I’ve been using Velcro for years. We use them to manage network cables, power cords, music cabling. I’ve used them to “lock” a gate, from the inside of course. Never thought about the backpack idea. You can pretty use them anywhere paracord or zip ties can/would be used.
never knew they made those kind of Velcro straps. Thanks.
Sootch you are definitely the Macgyver of the prepper world!
You are the best in giving me ideas. Thanks!
Some good innovations! Use in lieu of sandpaper....what a great idea! Love it!!

The Velcro straps are just Velcro cable ties if you are searching for them online.
Your comment is the answer to my question thanks.

"Wet weather poncho" vs a DRY weather poncho? O-) Good video.
Great ideas Don. I've not thought of using velcro for stuff like this 😺
Good video. Velcro / buckle straps, ratchet tie downs & zip ties are all a necessity for us. Stack it deep and be safe out there in zombieland...
I used some velcro to do a little package for the wrenches for my electric guitar and avoid the pain of losing it.

If you want a tight adjustable stock with your buffer tube, put some fuzzy side velcro on the buffer tube and it will be tight as a solid stock.

Double sided velcro can be ran through molle webbing on plate carrier for shotgun cards
Make up a stainless steel water bottle kit & Velcro it to the roll bars on a side by side or rack on a 4 wheeler. It will be there when you need it.
