I've seen discussions going back 20 years, mainly on FECC, on the COTS sticker being a scam from the start. Also lots of good people that believe in it. As for me, I'll stick with the ones that came from RCA and I'm not paying big bucks for any of them. My copy with the Steamroller sticker was $20.. Thanks for the great discussion. Love that collection.
Interesting video. I had never heard before that the Chicken of the Sea sticker was a likely scam. Based on the late Paul Lichter's reputation this would not come as a surprise. I had heard the the "genuine" sticker was of poor quality so the fact that copies are easy to fake would make sense. Also, regarding the EP, I had heard there were 2500 produced and Lichter bought 2000 of them. He used them as a special promotion when you joined his Unique Record club in 1974. For an additional $5.00 you got a copy of the EP. That's where I got mine. It was "sealed", but the vinyl doesn't play as a new record would. He had quite a thing going. You had to pay to join the club and get a small catalog and the right to purchase his overpriced offerings. In 1973 I paid $25.00 for a well used copy of "It Happened at the World's Fair"...that's about $172.00 in 2023 dollars. I was very young and options were limited back then, it was a good lesson for me.
sorry it took so long to post .I have been unwell .I was also a member of the club when i was much younger. I use to look at the catalog for days. But then i found out that most that was in it he did not really have. There were other catalogs i enjoyed . I think one was from Hot Wax.
