I got to meet the guy who did the stop motion clay animation. He was a teacher at a college I was attending. I was even going to take his stop motion class. Until he got into a fight with the department head and quit. He was a cool guy too.
At last, the entire bumpers for ABC Saturday mornings are now completed. I missed Saturday morning TV back when I was a little kid, and the bumpers I do remember when they showed it during the "Bugs Bunny & Tweety Show" which is probably my absolute favorite. Kudos to everyone. You're the man!
I remember somewhat the bumpers from '80 to '85 but mostly '87 through '93 cause I did watch a lot of ABC on Saturday Mornings for The Littles and the Real Ghostbusters on WJLA (Prior to watching Atlantic Coast Conference Football in the fall) or WJZ (when it was still Baltimore's ABC station prior to 1996)
Thank you so much for uploading these! I remember the 1985 and on bumpers, and I'm glad the rest are up so I and everyone else can see the history of Saturday morning.
2:40 kind of reeks of "Hey! Wait, guys! They need one more bumper! And we have one more day left! They won't notice a change in quality here at all..."
I vaguely remember the 1980-1985 bumpers. I do remember watching Turbo Teen and The Littles, which were ABC shows around 1984. I mostly watched NBC at that time because of The Smurfs, Shirt Tales, Thundarr, Mr. T, and Alvin & The Chipmunks, so I remember their bumpers better. But the ABC bumpers I remember best were the claymation ones from the late 80s/early 90s. I watched The Real Ghostbusters and The Bugs Bunny & Tweety show religiously as a kid. I also watched Beetlejuice, A Pup Named Scooby Doo, and The Addams Family fairly regularly as well. *sigh* I really miss Saturday morning cartoons. Hell, I miss the 80s altogether. Being a kid back then was awesome to the max. I wish life came with a rewind button. Getting older sucks.
You and me both. Same deal...I only watched CBS for Pee-Wee's Playhouse and occasionally the Garfield/US Acres show. But NBC was basically our channel of choice. The brick wall is when I really start remembering these bumpers even though I watched the shows you referenced and the Weekend Special in the mid 80s
Can you imagine doing those Saturday Morning bumpers today? For example: 1. “Bugs 🐰 & Friends will return after these messages!” 2. “And now, back to 🐜 🐰 & Friends!” 3. “Wacky Races will return after these messages!” 4. “And now, back to Wacky Races!” 5. “ThunderCats will return after these messages!” 6. “And now, back to ThunderCats!” 7. “G.I. Joe will return after these messages!” 8. “And now back to G.I. Joe!” 9. “Teenage Mutant Ninja 🐢 will return after these messages!” 10. “And now, back to Teenage Mutant Ninja 🐢!” 11. “The DC Universe Hour will return after these messages!” 11a. “The DC Universe Hour will return after CTN News Update and these messages!” 12. “And now, back to The DC Universe Hour!” 13. “DuckTales will return after these messages!” 14. “And now, back to DuckTales!” 15. “The Power Rangers will return after these messages!” ...and... 16. “And now, back to the Power Rangers!” And, of course, “And now these messages!” These Saturday Morning/weekday morning/afternoon bumpers would be accompanied by 🎵 by the 👍🏼 Catherine “Catt” Sadler, who also conducted the 🎵 along with a 40-piece orchestra!
I remember the Brickwall Claymation and Mr. Bumpy, What-A-Mess. Toystory Army Men Jody's. I never saw the kid singing 1s, One Saturday Morning, stopped watching after Doug was off of it.
Disney's One Saturday Morning was actually a two hour program. Something the network hadn't done since The Plastic Man Comedy Adventure Show. It was also ABC's answer to Disney's syndicated Disney Afternoon.
Oddly, I have absolutely no memory of any of the bumpers before the 1987 bumpers (even watching them again didn't jog my memory), yet I have a decent memory of the video game and space bumpers CBS used, despite being younger when those aired. The pre-1987 bumpers for ABC just didn't leave a lasting impression, I guess. The 1987 bumpers did stick out in my mind even before they returned in 1992 (admittedly, it possibly helped that the 1990-1992 bumpers used the same basic jingle). I even remembered the 6 bumpers used. Which turned out to be 7, because I forgot the fire hydrant had three bumpers. I didn't forget that seventh bumper again ^_^; They were also used in 1995-1996. And strangely enough, in the last few weeks of the 1993-1994 season.
I remember the first and second sets of bumpers 1976-1979 y'all remember during that time ABC also had a record label ABC Records????!!!!!..wish they'd revive it since they have that musical show Nashville I know this isn't the place but I have 3 dog night's greatest hits on cassette on the original label ABC/Dunhill wow huh????!!!...found it at Goodwill for .99 cents great price eh?????!!...and still plays
You know? There's a certain nostalgia to a lot of these bumpers for me. Most importantly? The ones from 1983-1985 (the wire frame Saturday Supercade Ones) I felt were particularly creative and Tron-like.Also any of these from that time through 1993 (I was too young to remember the 1980-1982). More so that era from the early 80's to early 90's when many different cartoons from different sources would show up on network TV on Saturday morning. I always checked out cartoons even into my teens. By the time of Disney One Saturday Morning? I felt Saturday Morning Cartoons were already on the fast decline. They were tending to be directed to,and patronizing for, very young children. Even on the "bump in the night" bumpers? The claymation, music and general flavor of the bumpers were going downhill-getting more grotesque and warped rather than artistic and/or charming. Also the fact of bigger companies having "exclusive rights" over the different network's Saturday morning programming. It was just never the same after the mid 90's on Saturday morning.
The back to the show bumpers up until 1992 and from 1995-1996 don't have generic bumpers, as each show had a Back to the Show bumper made for themselves as the announcer (ABC staff announcer) saying "We now return/continue to/with [INSERT SHOW HERE]" Is this true?
I remember some of these bumpers. The ones that I remember growing up is from 1981 to 85, and from 1988 all the way till 1992, then 92 to 97. However, the 1976 to 79 bumpers I do not know about because I wasn't born until 78. Thanks for posting these. I wish NBC, ABC, and CBS started back showing cartoons. Even if they are old along with the old cartoon commercials. I know we can't turn back the hands of time but we can in our minds. But, wouldn't that be cool though?
Mariana Gonzalez haha that's the best part Cause Remember "You Only Get 1 Saturday Morning " lol And it resemble a house cause kids finally can be home after school all week i think. Really i was like 4 and watching this i just loved the smile on the house mostly lol
There are 2 other bumps for Sunshine Saturday- One is the singer says "funshine Saturday come fly with me" the clown flies in the air. the other bump is "funshine Saturday, weeeeeeee!" the clown takes off on a rocket.. I am sure they may be more bumps for it.
punchcar I recall a longer one where the gag was after the singer supposedly finishes singing "Funshine Saturday on ABC!" she begins to off-key warble "D-E-F-G-H-I..." and trail off.
being born in August 29,1975 and between living in Puerto Rico,USA and back in my hometown of birth New York City, as well as growing up in the 80's and heading from my teens to early 20s during the decade of the 1990s in saturday mornings especially in the three years living in The Bronx from 1994-1997 while watching the Fox Cartoon shows were really cool memories for me. to me TV programming in the 80's and the 90's especially the Saturday morning bumpers and cartoons in which afterwards there was WWF Wrestling Challenge and WWF Superstars in the 90s and especially Soul Train with the late great Don Cornelius were magical times. don't get me wrong i love today's TV shows the ones that are white hot and special and fun not the stupid ass reality TV shows and some TV series that will get the ax sooner or later. but you can never replace or copy the shows especially the Saturday Morning Cartoons and man who can never forget those ABC Weekend Specials from back in the days of our youth, we need to bring Saturday Morning Cartoons even the next generation of ABC Weekend and Afterschool Specials back so today's kids can enjoy. let's get back to our childhood and enjoy the good old days even bringing some of that magic back here people . like the 1998 cult classic movie Can't Hardly Wait, that was a great movie before American Pie one year later in 1999, Melissa Joan Hart said it best "Those are memories in time ,People"
I agree. I do miss the ABC weekend special. Then after that, I remember watching the American bandstand at 12 PM here in California. But before that, we would watch soul train. We would go between watching soul train, and ABC weekend special.

Peter Bautista You're probably and to tell you the truth I don't like that Saturday Morning blocks are now being catered to mostly teen & family audiences on all the broadcast nets starting this week.
"After these messages, we'll be right back" Oh, I feel like crying after hearing that.
I feel like doing the same thing too because I miss my parents!😭
ABC Saturday Morning Cartoon Line-up was the best and had never been the same since when Disney took over.
At least back then ABC and Disney were still trying. Now it’s just boring educational shows.
Fox had the best lineup all time
I got to meet the guy who did the stop motion clay animation. He was a teacher at a college I was attending. I was even going to take his stop motion class. Until he got into a fight with the department head and quit. He was a cool guy too.

Bump in the night absolutely brings back memories 😍

I can't believe 40 years ago, they still have these bumpers after all this time..
The feels. I'm of the brick wall generation.

The 1980-85 ABC Saturday Morning bumper music is heard on occasion on Classic Rock 92.1 in Carlisle-Lexington!
Amen brother

Scott Manning If you were born in 1968, you grew up in the 70s.
You didn't tell us what time of day on Nov 11 you were born and what time zone.
5:21 I'd like to see this remade as a full song for iTunes. (though we may have to recast the kids, since the originals have grown up)
Great memories
Disney's One Saturday Morning was actually a two hour program. Something the network hadn't done since The Plastic Man Comedy Adventure Show. It was also ABC's answer to Disney's syndicated Disney Afternoon.
It was due to Disney's purchase of ABC in 1995.
I will do those in time. I'm so jam-packed with my fall semester of school right now

I'm 46 and damn I miss these days....
I'm 58 and I know what you mean. Just remember "You never know what you had until it's gone FOREVER."

I remember Bump in the Night, and that was a cool show.

The man and his dog bumpers was creepy 🎃
2:29 - Truly standing on its own.

+pannoni5 Everything went to hell in fall 1995.
Man and dog seem ahead of their time.

I kinda like the soldier ones
All-star Saturday must have been used during the Laff-A-Lympics and Captain Caveman/Scooby-Doo era.
The claymation bumpers were also used from 1995-96.
Right the longest running bumpers 1987-1996
i wasnt born until 7 years after 1SM ended, but i miss it.
The claymation bumpers also appeared in the 1995-1996 season.
Was just about to say this.
Looks great, Keith Norman.
We'll return. We'll return. We'll return. We'll return. And now. LOL
Claymation bumpers:
1987 to 1990, 1992-93, 1995-96.
I never noticed that the "1" in One Saturday Morning was supposed to be a house...
