    Thank you Robert, I really appreciate the support! Regarding going with ACT, I have had such good luck with their stuff for the last 12 years or so in various cars, I had to try it. That and I got a killer deal on it. Quartermaster makes excellent stuff and has a proven track record, so it was tough not to choose that setup.

    It's just a hobby- something to take my mind off of the day to day grind. I grew up in a service station working on cars, so it's part nostalgia and part hobby really.

    Thank you for the great compliment and I'm glad you enjoy the videos! I do plan a brake upgrade and it's badly needed!!! Maybe this fall or winter.

    Hi Sebastian! Thank you for the very generous offer. I'm likely to do a brake upgrade before suspension so I'm probably a couple years away from that. I actually really like this suspension, but there is definitely room for improvement.

    Haha, yeah anti-seize is great for the old digestive system! You're welcome and I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I did an Evo clutch job once and it was more difficult than a 1G DSM. The lift would make it far easier though- I did that one on my back. As for dirtying up the garage - Nooooooo! :-)

  • @TomsTurboGarage

    Hi Marc, the best advice is to check with your turbo manufacturer. I've never heard of a specific break-in procedure for a turbo that I've had, but I always prime it with oil before starting the engine. After that I usually take it for an easy drive, let the car cool and check the compressor wheel/shaft for anything unusual. If it all looks good, it's go time!

  • @TomsTurboGarage
    @TomsTurboGarage  11 років тому

    The service manual doesn't call for a strut bat engine support that I've seen. Also I have solid motor mounts so the engine doesn't even budge. Also, regarding the transmission dust...it's the magic of special effects! Anyone that would actually, purposely inhale clutch dust is gunning for the top spot in the Darwin awards.

  • @TomsTurboGarage

    WADDAP JOE!? I honestly did the whole anti-seize thing in hopes that you would see it. I still remember you shocked and amazed at all of the anti-seize I used back in the day. Haha! Regarding the gloves, I won't make that mistake again- my manicurist was very perturbed and gave me quite the tongue-lashing at the salon yesterday. Hope you are well my friend!

    Thank you man! I'm never thrilled with breaking these videos up into parts, but I've tried lumping it all together and I end up removing small stuff that I think folks would like to see. Part 2 is in the works and will be out soon!

    Hi David, sounds like some folks are offering good suggestions already. Good luck and take your time going through the process of elimination. Test for vacuum leaks, test all sensors with a multimeter as described in the service manual, etc.

    Thanks and I haven't had any firsthand experience with them. Lots of folks have shared info on the forums about them over the years though.

    No, I'm running ECMLink's speed density setup with their plug n play harness. I was previously running an Evo 8 MAF with ECMLink and really loved it. I would highly recommend that for anything below 500hp or so.

    Thanks Cody! I saw a mechanic do it a long, long time ago and have done that ever since. FYI use a screwdriver that you don't love as it may bend it a little.

    Hi Jerry, I'm really not much on diagnosing a car over the internet- I'm just not good at it. That said, it may have an incorrect flywheel? Also, make sure that your clutch hydraulics are in perfect condition and are adjusted properly.

      Tom's Turbo Garage lol I sure will. Got a question you might have an answer to. Got a tsi awd project that grinds when shifting into 2nd, I'm pretty sure is probably the syncro but I've read a badly bled master cylinder or slave can cause that. I haven't had a chance to look into it, just bought it. Figured I'd ask before I pull the transmission lol

    • @TomsTurboGarage
      @TomsTurboGarage  10 років тому

      abe'sdsm Yes, basically you'll need to inspect/test the entire clutch system. Master cylinder, slave cylinder, fluid quality, bled properly, pedal assembly, etc.

  • @TomsTurboGarage
    @TomsTurboGarage  11 років тому

    I agree man. I've done my share of transmission jobs on the floor though. I helped a buddy do an Evo tranny on the floor and it was TERRIBLE. That was the worst by far. Not to mention the razor sharp edges of the various aluminum castings under there. Sliced my hand open like a razor blade.

    Tom, I love the videos. I too am a dsm fan and now own my 2nd talon. It's a 90 tsi awd manual. It currently needs the transmission replaced and thid video is extremely helpful with what I can expect. My question is would there be any differences between the removal in your 91 and my 90? I know mine is 22 spline. Any and all feedback is much appreciated.

    • @TomsTurboGarage

      Hi Brent and I'm glad you enjoy the videos! Check the VFAQ and a service manual to see if there are any differences. They are very similar I'm sure, but there may be a few odds and ends to watch for.

    Hi tom, nice video! By the way, is this process the same for a 2g eclipse GSX awd? The thing is I need to replace the clutch fork ,it broke off all the way inside and I would like to know if it's the same process for the 2g eclipse gsx since they have same engine and I'm assuming mounts too. I've never done something this complicated but it's nearing spring season here in minnesota and I wanna give it a go. Would you recomend me buying the clutch fork and pivot ball of the dealer? And how hard is it to dismount the clutch once I have dropped the transmission from the car.
