The Color of Love: Jacey's Story

  • Orphaned after an accident, Jacey (Penny Bae Bridges) is put under the care of her grandmother, Georgia Porter (Gena Rowlands), a white Southern woman she had never met before. This comes as a shock to Georgia, who didn't know that her son-in-law was an African-American. Georgia and Jacey do their best to overcome the stereotypes they both hold, but things get even more complicated when Jacey's paternal grandfather, Lou Hastings (Louis Gossett Jr.), also claims custody.
    Initial release: March 19, 2000

I agree with you about the ending. I wanted more too. But the way Georgia responded yes and then looked at Lou regarding him staying, I think gives us the answer. I think a second movie would have been perfect because I know they had more conflict living together in the small town.

I agree. Love scenes are not necessary when two actors are good at their craft. Besides, it is offensive to me and i'm sure most actors to be forced into nudity. Different pigment shades are what makes each of us unique and beautiful. We all are one race. What a waste of this world and the good we can do when all people unite for the common good instead of hating our neighbor. Just look at all of the devised hate and separation in the media to create chaos. Don't buy into it and turn off the lies on TV. It is being done on purpose to cause civil violence amongst us. When Americans work together, we can do great things. God Bless the United States and the Planet! It is a gift if we learn to be good stewards and protect it for future generations. 🌎⛪🇺🇸

We invited him to our son's birthday, and that day ice cold hearts were melted. Once you saw my son loving his Godfather you could not have hate anywhere within you. I remember our church with Reverand Fleming the first lovely black family came down the isle to the front row of our church and stayed for 50 years. When my Dad was dying I went to the church. The wife was still there her son's grown and husband passed away.It was so good to see her and people that were left.Reverand Fleming was passed. Another Reverend. We were a family in the church.I grew up in it.
It was right across the street from our house. When Reverand Fleming died the whole town turned out driving cars through town to Green Hills cemetery.Oh did I mention some high minded people left the church because Reverend Fleming wouldn't turn that wonderful family away? Reverand Fleming was like A Man Called Peter lived what he preached. They made a movie after Peter they should have of Reverand Fleming for it was more real.

My favorite scene was that hug scene between Georgia and Lou (1:17:40)where two seasoned actors played the best acting. A lot of racist inspired taboo was shattered by these two in this scene:1)That all white women have a secret desire - to make love with a black man. Georgia, in a time of weakness, resisted that urge and showed her strength to push away. She earned real personal respect right there from Lou- though the rejection hurt his manhood. She had to show him, that she wasn't a hussie in secret. She knew that hurt him - enough to get from her, and Sweet Creek, and go back to his house in San Diego, even forget the lawsuit against her for full custody of Jacey. So that rejection devastated him.2) Not all black men lust after white women in secret. Lou was very defensive about being alone around Georgia and living in her house at first -he only thought it was very temporary, and he and Jacey would be out of there in a matter of days. Jacey was the reason he stayed there as long as he did because Georgia refused to let her go.3)All biracial kids are confused. Jacey destroyed that lie in her brilliant performance.[I never get tired of watching that scene in the movie - it is classic drama at its best.]

I don't know how the " #1" was started because it isn't true. All women are attracted to a certain type and it has nothing to do with color. I'm attracted to men who are tall.. with dark brown hair & light olive skin. I like green, or brown eyes.

You're correct. But too big racial taboos centuries-old, faced them to overcome - and the directors understood this - and it would have taken several sequels to even begin to scratch the surface of removing what stood between them - so they didn't even bother. They left us with the thought that at least they ended the movie pointing them in that direction for their granddaughter's sake, not theirs. JADA PINKETT, should a mini-series of this movie - as an anti-racism agent, to continue the campaign, of attacking racism - that still is in each one of us whether we realize it or not.
