Interesting fact. I am 79 years old and live in Atlanta. Doctors making house calls was the norm when I was a child. My Primary Care doctor just retired on 11-1-2023. This is December of 2023. Up until the day that she retired, she STILL made house calls when her patients were dying. I find this absolutely amazing. And all of her patients called her by her first name. Awesome lady.❤️
I have always been a fan of work by Angela Lansbury, I still watch 'Murder She Wrote everyday. She was one of the Greats that gave us GREAT SHOWS WITH FAMILY VALUE WE WERE ABLE TO ENJOY TOGETHER. ❤❤❤MISS HER SO VERY MUCH AND COULD NEVER THANK HER ENOUGH FOR ALL THE YEARS OF ENJOYMENT. ❤❤❤
Gosh, I so love this movie. It's a remake of the Classic of 30's- 40's....this too shall be a Classic soon enough. The writing is so beautiful & meaningful. Where are these writer's now 😢
20 December 2023 I have just come across your Channel and have subscribed! I worked in Retail for 21 years in Australia! The wonderful store was 132 years old! Worked from 1975-1996...received a gold watch! But another Retailer took us over and in a matter of 3 years all our 5 stores closed due mismanagement!! I am 66 now retired my work was my life! I will never forget it! It was just like yesterday!
Never heard of this movie much less seen it. So I did. Thoroughly enjoyable. Funny but the whole time I was watching it, I thought the movie was made in the 70s...around 76ish. Then I found out it was made in 1983. Go figure. Something about these old TV movies, set in New England, in the winter that are so charming.
What a beautiful & Lovely Christmas movie !! Always loved Lee Remick . Passed too young from Cancer . Dear Angela Lansbury . Thank you this was so charming a Holiday film ♥️♥️💯💯🌟🌟🎄🎄🎅🏻🎅🏻☃️❄️🇨🇦🇨🇦
I love Polly Holliday as Aunt Min in this. Saw this when it was on tv in 1983. My grandmother died on Dec. 19, this movie has always had a special place in my heart.
December 19 was my oldest late nephew's birthday. We were only three years apart. Since my sister left him with our parents, he was my Michael ( though his name is Kenneth). August 2023, made one year and this is the 2nd Christmas and New Year without him.😢. I thank God for every family member that he gave me and I miss them all. My deepest heartfelt condolences and sympathy to you and your family in your loss of your grandmother.🥹 Grandma's are so special. May God continue to keep you all in His blessed loving care. Wishing all a happy, prosperous and healthy new year!😊❤
Whaaat? Lansbury is one of the few actors/actresses who have received nominations for all EGOT awards - Emmy, Grammy, Academy Award (Oscar), and Tony Awards. Only 18 in the world have gotten all of them.
Umm Sorry but she most certainly did the get the credit she deserved 10 Fold . She not only won prime time Emmy awards , she won and was nominated for a number of those as well as TONY awards for Broadway live performances , Golden Globes , SAG award Screen actor’s Guild, People’s Choice , as well as a Lifetime Achievement Achievement award for her contributions to motion picture and television . A Star on Hollywood’s Most all of Fame in Beverly Hills . And was Given a Gala at Kennedy Center Honors. Angela Lansbury is also the winner of 2 Oscars for Best actress in a Motion picture. So she has been honoured on multiple occasions Madame .
I do understand what you mean - She had great acting talent but although she got many award she always seemed to placed on a lower shelf than most of the Hollywood actresses back then because she wasnt pretty enough - She turned all ths around later in her career by proving herself to be one of the best character actresses around
I remember watching this when I was in my teens with my mother and family. O how I miss my family!! How I miss the Christmases we used to have. It is awful when time takes away your family memories. I so miss my family 😢.
After crossing the age of fifty, you hear more of sad news, news of loss of dear ones, news of bereavement. This movie on the one hand reminds you of the same painful feeling and on the other hand gives you solace to face the ways of the world. A great movie, indeed .
That’s nothing! In “The Manchurian Candidate,” Angela Lansbury, 37, played the mother of Raymond, played by Laurence Harvey, who was 35 during filming! (Their birthdates are almost three years apart, though). It’s all about the acting and the facial structure!
@@andreawales1938 You have reminded me. Elizabeth Taylor born in 1932 was asked to play Joan Collins' mother in Dynasty, Collins was born in 1933. ET said "Heck No!! I am only one year older!!!
This was a good movie. I'm completely in love with the houses, furniture, and fabrics like the quilts and sweaters! I love old stuff and this movie had everything I've always wanted! They just don't make anything like they used to! I want to live in the past so badly! The present just sucks! Anyway, thank you for the upload and Merry CHRIST-mas(s)!🎄❤️💚✝️⛪🛐🥰
What a wonderful movie, i love angela and lee..i noticed that the real john boy walton wrote this movie...he was very good at writing down home stories....bravo
I always loved Lee Remick who I believe died way too soon and the wonderful Angela Lansbury no matter what film she was in. When I saw the cast, I knew I would love it, and I did. I lost my mom 3 years ago after a short illness. I wasn't prepared even though I had her for 71 years. I will remember her every day until I pass myself. I loved my dad but your mother if you are as lucky as I was is someone you are so closely tied to that it hurts physically when they go. I have communicated with her and know she is near, but it still is not the same.
Very few people, particularly ladies know how to live gracefully. Dame (I call her that, because in my opinion she WAS one in every sense of the word) Angela Lansbury was one such lady. She lived gracefully, sha aged gracefully, worked till her late eighties, again that too very gracefully...
I love these old movies like they're so emotional and they seemed so real you know I'm kind of makes you look back at your own life and wish you had done things differently
wow this is an oldie...wow seeing angela lansbury in a different role especially christmas one, the one i watched her in was mrs. santa clause even that was good
Angela Lansbury and Lee.Remick were beautiful and outstanding actresses in this splendid Family Christmas film .🎅🤶🧑🎄❄️☃️⛄️😇 Polly Holiday as Aunt Min is also outstanding . 🎉❤🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
LOL, "Seems like being 13 is like a fatal disease". So true, such an awkward age to be. At least for a girl, in my experience at least. Thank you for posting this great movie Retrospective-Classic Movies. Merry Christmas, may you and your families have a safe, healthy, and peaceful holiday season.
I have been looking for this movie for years. I love this so much. The scene with Polly Holliday and the Ghost of Christmas Past is priceless. Yes, it makes me cry every time. Three great actresses in one movie. Even the kids were excellent actors.
We did it a year before covid hit at my friends house! They have a Christmas party every year & always include caroling!❤ The neighborhood loves it too! Have gone out with others too house to house & to a few nursing/retirement homes!
I read all the comments and they vary, of course. Our family has watched this, and many others from the 80s and 90s. Earl Hamner wrote a great story here. Lee Remick, Angela Lansbury, and Polly Holliday do a great job with the story. The oddest part that stood out to me all these years was the last dialogue between the character Janet and her recently deceased mom, Aunt Minerva, and dad in the fireplace room. It seemed to give the movie a place of wonder, as if any of us could speak with the dead, but in our minds, of course, we do. We want to have those conversations, but they play out in our minds, like the whole point of the movie was the find the secret place. I will always love this movie, and the story.
What a lovly Christmas story I love Angela Lansbury and lee remmick I always thought she had the most beautiful eyes the children were sweet too thankyou ❤️😊
I was born in 1993, and while I didn't get to watch old TV movies like these in the 1990s and early 2000s, I did watch shows like The Facts of Life and Hey Arnold!, which carried down many old themes from the past decades. So, I've come to love these old holiday films. They're so warm and nice to look at- a real comfort in a world I don't find very comforting.
This movie makes me long for my childhood life in a small town too. Wish I can go back with my parents being there…. Many of us, married couple, forget the love that we felt towards each other as the year goes by. Good reminder to remember and cherish each other as we grow older together.
I saw this movie ages ago, enjoying it again. Thank you. Ironically it's Christmas Day and me sister-in-law's mother died today of covid related pneumonia. This movie brings home everything I feel right now.
Why am i not surprised to see Earl Hamner attached to this movie? It's not the Waltons for sure, but the scenery, music and acting give it the same vibe.
I'd forgotten I'd seen this movie. I don't recall when 🧐. At any rate, it's one of the best and I love both Angela Lansbury and Lee Remick. The only thing I didn't like was Michael being dressed as an old lady.😏😌. I thought he was going to be Paul Revere, since he loved that hat and would have been, so much more befitting. Excellent cast!
See this isn’t that long ago and it was still normal for families to live together and care for each other. Now we stick older people in care homes, and anyone with a disability gets locked away too. We have enormous houses, with only a couple of people in them, and even they’re too busy to actually spend any time in the house. That’s one way society has changed for the worse!
Very sad true and also selfish We will all grow old one day and they only thing we will need is love and respect and above all some one just to care life is so short we often wish our lives away instead of living life in the moment and to the full God bless our past loved ones this Christmas 2024 🙏
Interesting movie different from The usual Holiday movies that fact that The great Angela langsbury was in it as well as the lovely lee remick was a definite draw well acted and Good script a definite second Time watching again I noticed the actor that played her husband was an actor on a soap opera I used to watch years ago Mart hulswit that played the part of Dr Ed Bauer on the guiding light 🕯️🕯️
Remick and Lansbury co-starred in THE LONG, HOT SUMMER (1958) and then as comically bitter enemies in the Arthur Laurents and Stephen Sondheim musical ANYONE CAN WHISTLE. Alas, the 1964 project closed on Broadway after 9 performances.
My favorite Christmas movie by far. So much so that we visited the set locations including Chelsea VT. We walked on that great lawn leading to the church and also walk by the town store. Yes me too I would give anything to live one more Christmas together with mom and dad. The cemetery scene was heart breaking and when her father turns around for the first time by the sleigh. Merry Christmas to everyone I hope we all find that secret place.
Such a pity, that this lacking TV film might have been Remick's best work in the 1980s, before leaving the business saying "I make movies for grown-ups. When Hollywood starts making them again, I'll start acting in them again." Sadly, she died young, at least not having to see what Superhero and Fantasy tripe passes for film these days. I grew up in the 1960s and 70s, so it was the blockbusters she starred in, which first introduced me to Remick. All those more action- than art-house films, but with good productions values, from "QB VII", "Telefon", and "Omen", to "Medusa Touch", and "Ike". Only a bit later did I go back and realize that she peaked early, her best work done in the late 50s to mid-60s: "Long Hot Summer", "Anatomy of a Murder", "Days of Wine and Roses".
Perhaps not. She had a lovely home, family, and neighbors....and family children who went home eventually. Sounds idyllic...except for one closest friend.
@@sarahhearn-vonfoerster7401 The one closest friend who made it all worthwhile. To me, it is incredibly sad. But, then, I am reliving my husband who has been gone for a long long long 49 years. NOW, my excitement thrills me, as I know how very soon we will be called Home.
@@jacqueline8559 My knowledge of Bible prophecy has enabled me for the past 49 years to keep up with what is going on, Jacqueline. I have literally marked off prophecies one by one, and now we are down to the wire for when believers will leave here. My dream is having Jesus taking me into His arms, laughing as He sees my joy and awe…….and then, my peering over His shoulder to see my husband and my parents standing close by, as they wait their turn. My husband will be grinning like a Cheshire Cat at me as he gives me a big Thumbs Up sign ! My adrenaline stays on a “ 10 “ every day as I watch and wait. My eyes are on Israel and on Damascus, as they are the main thrust for believers. Tomorrow I am going to the funeral of one of my bff’s and I can’t grieve because our departure is so close, that it is going to be like a blink of an eye before I see her again. I hope that you and your husband are as ready as I am, Jacqueline. Sooooo exciting !❤️

What an incredibly sad life, for Aunt Mim.
I am 82 years old and live in a suburb of Chicago and some family doctors made house calls when I was young too.
