We are all also fooled by the nowadays crazy looking artists. Real Hiphop was sort of average guys doing what they love. That's why he and us, the real Hiphop guys look unspectacular.
As a DJ for the past 35+ years, and having worked at a charity organisation for 10 years, as a van driver picking up all the donated shyte from the shops, I can confirm it is hard not to fill your house with vinyl at those prices. I used to get it even cheaper (staff rate), and ended up with vinyl in almost every room of my house. Barry you are ace, and a style icon.
I've worked at charity shops the past few years and there's barely anything here where I am in regional Australia. Maybe once a month a handful, even a small box of records will come through. Almost always your standard compilations, classical, nanna's music like Kamahl, Some Guy and His Orchestra Play 20 Golden Classics, and utterly trashed 45s. Everything gets priced at $2, unless it's something people have heard of like Abba or Meatloaf, then it's like $10+. I've bought quite a few records, but maybe half a dozen of them are actually worth owning.
Thanks Barry, for giving us an inside look at the goings on of Cornwall. Loving this series of Beat Making vids you're putting out. PLEASE keep them coming. Respect !
Probably quite a way off. Juggling work, child care and currently doing my self assessment tax means I don't get a great deal of time in the lab. Im fully focused on it though and have all the tracks sorted. just need to arrange and mix em as well as do some skits.
Richard and Luke both grew up in the same district (Kerrier) Prob about 7 miles from me. Mark on the other hand, who I'm good friends with is a Somerset boy haling from Crewkern. Tom his ex partner grew up down ere. For more Cornish talent can I recommend you check out my very good friend Dren Throwdown of 33 Throwdown records. Just do a google.
Stellar video. I produce hiphop in my own time in America (usually crate dig in local thrift stores and Goodwills). I have to say that I've never seen locations quite like the ones you visited. It was all so home-y and pleasant. Also those prices! I'd be be hard pressed to find one record for under $1.20 where I usually spend my time searching. Have a good one.
sweet dig!!! thats how i dig here in the philippines... i set a amount and ask every thrift/surplus shop here if they sell vinyl records... I dig cheap, uncommon records for samples...
Not only is this funny and entertaining, it also showcases his creative process really well, I especially liked the layered beat introduction at the very end - inspiring, informative, intriguing shit you got going sir!
I lived near Ameoba in SF, spent a few years buying .99c budget bin records, was a glorious time and lots of keepers. Great video Barry, one day, I hope to visit you in England.
Just watching Barry mug that woman and snag SIX RECORDS for 50p! Call the cops Barry's committing daylight robbery! and then he waited while she brought him the change! Love how videos on this channel can go from Barry playing jaw-dropping beats for Diamond D to looting Cornish record stores for hidden gems, what a treat this is. I only discovered the channel two days ago, looks like I might have missed the boat since there's not been a lot of recent posts, but I wanted to say thanks because what there is is pure gold.
@@Sispex Nothing can beat some old school scratches on a pair of dusty 1200's. Just after listening back to your star wars mash up again and the scratching is on point man.
Thanks for showcasing the Julius Wechter Marimba album.....I have been trying to remember the name of the Flyin High tune because it was on a compilation I had (Espresso Espresso) now found thanks to you and some cross-referencing via Discogs :)
Back in like '95 I was copping Soul 45s 4 for $1 and entire crates of "garbage" LPs for $1 at the local Flea Market. Matter of fact, I got that "marimba" record you bought in a $1 crate that also had the Miami LP with "Chicken Yellow" and the Tommy Roe "Dizzy" record in it on one trip.
Barry this channel is the bombbb babieee. You gotta do more of Cornwall Diggin.. I think I’m gonna pop down to Cornwall myself, may get 2 lp’s for 10p… keep up the great work u do..
It’s honestly so refreshing to hear somebody that’s so into the art and craft of hip hop and beat making and has stayed true to the craft in the most unlikely of places. As much as I want your producing career to blow up, I also want you to stay in the underground so you stay real to the art
Hold on... is this THE Carlos Bess??? If so I remember hearing some of your beats back in the 90s while out in NY and being completely blown away. I remember them being really stringy with next level mixing. So what is this Impossible Roulette you speak of? Finding drums and everything blind does sound like a tall challenge.
I have a record collection that is insane , just sampled franc Liszt and a western soundtrack album, sounds alright , but to get to this level , I’m years behind , man is a legend in the hiphop community , his videos are just comedy the man has made beats for some really famous people and he was part of the creators , hip hop legend
I got a record with one song on it. And I'm only going to use like only about 4 seconds of it for my whole sample, and then just use that one 4 second sample for my whole entire beat. When I'm done with it, I'll post what I came up with.
Barry is so un-hip hop that he's most hip hop ever, if that's possible. Mackin"!
true story!
We are all also fooled by the nowadays crazy looking artists. Real Hiphop was sort of average guys doing what they love. That's why he and us, the real Hiphop guys look unspectacular.
should've been our music teacher........the adventure
hip hop comes from your heart
If you got real love for the culture then it will bleed through regardless of your style. A head nod can say a lot more than a chain and some shoes.
This is the most underrated channel on UA-cam
I agree
We need a "Life of Barry Beats" sitcom!!
Thank you for sharing your style and please keep the beats comin
Coming soon when I launch my Patreon!!!
bringing the uk flavour to crate diggin. nothing more hip hop than a charity shop
£1 on records and about £20 on petrol driving about 😂 Great video and a brilliant finished track.
This guy is the real deal no doubt.
i could watch a 5 hour video of barry just making beats
i could spend a week watching him dig
Walter White/Ned Flanders killin it as usual 🔥🔥🔥
Ned white or Walter Flanders?
just pure unfiltered genuine back n forth with strangers, fantastic man heart of gold
The art of sampling in a nutshell, this is inspiring .. Now I want to do a sampling video =D
Grad a quid and take the Barrys £1 challenge man. You can put it in the comments and I will stick a link to it in the description of this vid.
@@Sispex Is that offer still available?

If I had the money I would pay for a class to be taught by this guy
me too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Im afraid im going to be taking a little break from the vids for now to concentrate on finishing off my album 'The 2 sides of Barry'.

What’s in the Cornwall water? It’s given us Aphex Twin, Luke Vibert, Mark Pritchard and now Barry!
Grapht our Barry has been releasing bangers since the 90s to be fair
pastel black Well, I know that now but I hadn’t heard of him until he did his ‘rhythm roulette’ vid.
John Fugler, from Fluke, is from St Austell too.

Favourite beat maker on YT
Barry is tight AF. He finds the dankest possibilities in budget snags. That loop...
sweet dig!!! thats how i dig here in the philippines... i set a amount and ask every thrift/surplus shop here if they sell vinyl records... I dig cheap, uncommon records for samples...
Yes yes yes! Barrys back .....

This rules. WAY better than Rhythm Roulette. Do more of these man!
Such a joy to watch, everything from the lovely Cornish folks right down to the finished beat (which, btw, has strong Go! Team vibes)
Barry is all about manners & bangers
More of this please Barry !! One of the best UA-cam channels period.
Damn Barry those loafers are razor sharp! Fiery breaks and ice cold style - it can only be Barry Beats.
wow, so glad i found your channel barry. this little road movie of yours made a drab cold thursday morning bearable. it really did lol.
cheers!
Dude, Barry you've given me a new appreciation for sampling and sample chopping your vid has inspired me to gone ahead and dig in!!! Blessings
Now I know when a producer hears that golden sample and smiles.
Barry enjoyed watching sir and look forward to watching a load more.
One of the most entertaining videos I've ever watched on UA-cam!!!
Hi Barry! With over 40k views now, the bargain you made with the lady at the house was well worth her time.

This dude is mad talented
Barry Mate, You gotta do a video showing us your skills on the turntables
Ha ha, alas my skills on the tables are very 1989. There are 1000s of better turntablists out there on YT

This couldn't get any more British :)
This is quite simply one of the best UA-cam videos I have seen
Nice cameo for Barry Beats Bog Roll.
That background music was crazy
So fucking good. Teach it Barry, teach it!
Next time I'm in Cornwall I'm hitting up these Camborne record stores
I bloody love your channel, it's compulsive viewing, ALL OF IT. Best of breakbeat regards to you, sir. Best regards from Spain.

I straight up bought the Pink Beat Street album the day it dropped at Rasputin Records in Berkeley, California

Barry is one of the creators. Fucking hip hop legends. Check out their album "the weight"
Nice! Try my favorite Mr Barry, "Impossible Roulette 😎"; Blindfold search, 1 record only for everything, drums and all...

Hahaha...He's about to change the game I'm in...
Barry needs to release more
Barry is straight fire.
Yes! Buzzing to try this. I’m a charity shop, record digging beast. Got Rose Royse greatest hits for 50p the other week.
Not good enough to guess the breaks though apparently!
Cornwall puts Suffolk to shame on prices too. Damn! Either that, or I guess I’m not as much as a beast as I thought.
Thats why I always gravitate to animal charities as all the others price there records too steep
Si Spex RSPCA it is then!
What a find! Someone clearly didn’t know what was going on when they priced that.

I love everything about this video, in special the mouse door next to Barry’s fancy turntable
Very nice indeed 👍💯
