Why was he so quick to get that red card out? Not even a hesitation.. not even giving a yellow card for it and then letting VAR chime in and tell him that actually he should review the replay to be sure. We were even told last season by Howard Webb that Kovacic wasn't sent off against Arsenal despite raking his studs down the back of Odegaard's shin because they want to keep the game 11v11 for a long as possible and don't want to needlessly send players off if a warning will serve better. So where was that leniency in real time for Lewis Skelly yesterday? Or Rice and Trossard who got swift 2nd yellows for simply kicking the ball away? We've seen Gomes and KDB yesterday do the exact same thing yesterday and Doku and Szoboszlai before yet they got away with it. Where's the consistency?
Howard Webb and PGMOL 💯 know MO and VAR screwed up but they won't do anything because they won't want to lose face. As Mike Dean says these refs have to protect their pals.
There needs to be an independent auditor who assess performance. They should look for patterns. Oliver has sent off 8 Arsenal players in 55 games. He gives a red to Arsenal but a 2nd yellow to wolves for a worse challenge. Oliver did not send off kovacic because he “didn’t want to impact the game”. He is corrupt.
If we can have world class foreign players come and play in the EPL, then why can’t we have world class foreign refs too to ensure the game is at a high level. I just don’t think these refs are good enough
If you ask me for the name of an incompetent ref... I'd say Darren England... If you ask me for the name of refs who are ridiculously overrated I'd say Michael Oliver and Anthony Taylor.
VAR needs to be run by specially trained VAR techs. Not rotating refs. The guy that caught the Liverpool offside goal last season was the VAR tech, not one of the refs. The PGMOL is a boys club and they have no consequences. Plenty of very poor VAR and refereeing decisions yesterday.
Paid £20k to referee a game for City in Saudi. First game is City who employ him and the second game is Newcatle who he supports. Why do FA get themselves into these situations? He shouldn't be allowed to referee any Arsenal match ever again.
I'm sitting at home and saw immediately that it should be a yellow ; when the ref gives a red I thought I'd missed something , I hadn't. Henry asked the key question , a more junior ref finds it hard to overturn a senior refs decision ; the refs need training to understand that seniority is irrelevant when it comes to VAR officiating , I mean they shouldnt really need to be shown or explained that as grown men but there we go....
MR KEITH HACKETT HE DOES NOT NEED A REST . WHAT NONSENSE MICHAEL OLIVER WAS PAYED THE SUM OF £20,000 POUNDS ALLEDGY BY MAN CITY TO REFF A GAME SO IS THAT NOT AGAINST PGMO RULES . SO WHEN TALKING ABOUT REST HE SHOULD BE BANNED 1000% FROM REFFERING ANY GAMES WHATSOEVER .
Wouldn't swapping refs and VAR officils with other countries cut out any prejudices and "mistakes" unless its all corrupt. For example, english officials go to France, Italy or Spain to officiate and vice versa.
Our sports over here in America certainly have their issues, but one of the things that isnt as big an issue is our officiating. On field calls are overturned by video review every single game, sometimes multiple times a game. Granted, there are still some odd calls. It's so common place that it's expected.
He should be sent to League two ( 2) to officiate matches. It does not matter whether he is on the pitch or behind the VAR, he keeps doing it and costing teams vital points. He needs to be brought before a d inquiry committee to answer to his actions
Henry winter protecting his access as usual… ‘Ooooh I think that might make him look like a scapegoat’. It was HIS decision!! You can’t be a scapegoat when you made the call! 🤦🏻♂️
Martin Keown said something the other week but people ridiculed him. Michael Oliver is bent we all know that. But how VAR doesn’t interfere and try to change the decision. Either they don’t want to undermine a ‘senior’ official or they are bent as well.

In a "Videa Assisted Referee" instance, VAR would NOT step in on ANY situation unless called upon, even for goals, if the Ref and Linesman are happy with it (regardless whether correct or not) then the goal should stand, unless a team challenges and wins the challenge.
Referee should be able to fall back on VAR to make the big calls and get them right!
This is so simple... VAR did not want to undermine Michael Oliver as he is a English Refereeing sweethart... they should call him out on that error.
Stop crying princess
@@jamjam2833the game was won, early indications that the ban will be overturned but he still makes a valid point.
@@WinstonCharles-z1i it’s got nothing to do with him being English, it’s a bad decision simple as that, people all over the world moaning about prem standard refs should watch other leagues if they don’t like what they’re seeing and yes it does need overruling.
@@jamjam2833 I was more referring to the VAR didn’t want to undermine him, then you have to endure the broadcasters always supporting the refs decisions. The respect campaign went to far, it’s given Prem refs almost Devine power.
@@WinstonCharles-z1i I agree, it was a ridiculous decision, should’ve been sent to the monitor at the very least.
You watch Michael Oliver be the ref for the Arsenal vs Man city game or Newcastle game!
He doesn't referee Newcastle games
He supports Newcastle. He is City's payroll.
Nobody is mentioning that this is also a decision that will benefit city
I have noticed that once a referee makes a decision then 9 times out of 10 the VAR back him even when it looks dubious to say the least. I think if it’s opinion rather than fact they always back the on field ref. Boys club!
I think a big problem is how many of the bad decisions are benefiting a certain team. I think it would be forgivable if decisions were consistent with all teams
Darren England on VAR having a nightmare again. Webbs tenure has been a car crash. I agree, VAR & on field refs should be independent. We've already heard from ex refs, protecting their mates. As for Oliver, the best we've got. Dam.
His double yellow against Dalot was mental - hardly anything said and nobody has been done like that since
Absolutely. And before that a double yellow against Martinelli. Michael Oliver needs to be punished. Howard Webb must resign.
Happened to Martinelli before that so he has a history of that.
Um, it wasn't a double yellow. Dalot was already on a yellow card when he lunged in and got his deserved 2nd. Only Martinelli has been on the end of a swift double yellow card in the PL and we haven't seen it before or since.
@@marzipanmonkey probably the only one in the world to ever
The Dalot one was a card for an offence and another for continued dissent, for the initial yellow card.
The FBI when they profile someone look for patterns, and for that, a pattern is basically anything that happens more than 3 times! So how people can't see a pattern is beyond me
The FBI? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@jaxcoss5790 Can't see the forest for the trees, can we? Totally missed the point being made that when something controversial happens 3+ times with the same person, it is a pattern that is worth investigating.
The only consistency is to stick it to Arsenal, any chance they get ! 🤬
We're asking about Covacic tackle same refree and PGMOL response. Last year
Michael Oliver... the newcastle fan who gets paid by City... surely he doesn't have any bias at all... surely not.
Howard Webb and PGMOL 💯 know MO and VAR screwed up but they won't do anything because they won't want to lose face. As Mike Dean says these refs have to protect their pals.
SPOT ON IS THE ARROGANCE
No need of rest just ban him for good
"Best Referee" in the "Best League in the World" 😏
It only happens to Arsenal and then you’ll never see it again
man city tactically foul everyone in their own half, and pep endorses it as a strategy, and yet arsenal do it, we get punished
Excellent conversion and eloquently put
There needs to be an independent auditor who assess performance. They should look for patterns. Oliver has sent off 8 Arsenal players in 55 games. He gives a red to Arsenal but a 2nd yellow to wolves for a worse challenge. Oliver did not send off kovacic because he “didn’t want to impact the game”. He is corrupt.
Looking forward to mic'd up when howard webb will try and defend this BS and how it was a "dangerous tackle" and therefore was the correct decision
If we can have world class foreign players come and play in the EPL, then why can’t we have world class foreign refs too to ensure the game is at a high level. I just don’t think these refs are good enough
I just said this to my mate!! We hire the best foreign players and coaches, so why not the best foreign officials?
That's not error 😂😂😂
What’s not an error
Foreign owners, Foreign managers, Foreign players now we need Foreign ref
The only way you think that was a straight red is if you wanted to believe it was a red and you have to try hard to believe it’s an actual red. Mi
I think he needs to be investigated he do it to arsenal all the time it's a shame
I'm sitting at home and saw immediately that it should be a yellow ; when the ref gives a red I thought I'd missed something , I hadn't. Henry asked the key question , a more junior ref finds it hard to overturn a senior refs decision ; the refs need training to understand that seniority is irrelevant when it comes to VAR officiating , I mean they shouldnt really need to be shown or explained that as grown men but there we go....
love this guy talk real !
Allegedly…no proof like you’ve just said.
The needs to be an official investigation into the standards of England
Wouldn't swapping refs and VAR officils with other countries cut out any prejudices and "mistakes" unless its all corrupt. For example, english officials go to France, Italy or Spain to officiate and vice versa.
well said
I also think it’s about time we as paying viewers need to hear what the ref and VAR are saying
Darren England could write a book on VAR mistakes
Bring back Keith!
Needs a rest❌
Need for a Arrest✅
Great words of wisdom form the former REF Keith needs to be the director of Pgmol
They can explain but if the officiating is not consistent it wont make a any difference.
We need legal proceedings. This is called fixing.
Go on then. Sue him.
VAR officials should be governed separately so that they can be impartial when making decisions.
He is spitting!!
VAR should also have overturned the 2nd yellow for joao gomes and changed it to a straight red!
Again a rest? Never ref an Arsenal game again it's to obvious he's anti Arsenal and Taylor
"Clear and obvious error" is a phrase coined to help VAR refs cover for the mistakes of their friends on the field.
"A rest" a way of saying get him out the spotlight, till things cool off a little.
everyone is in on it - clearly
Henry winter protecting his access as usual…
‘Ooooh I think that might make him look like a scapegoat’.
It was HIS decision!!
You can’t be a scapegoat when you made the call! 🤦🏻♂️
Oliver is a............... (Comment below)
Martin Keown said something the other week but people ridiculed him. Michael Oliver is bent we all know that. But how VAR doesn’t interfere and try to change the decision. Either they don’t want to undermine a ‘senior’ official or they are bent as well.
Bang on Keith.
we don't need reasoning explained. we need correct decisions.
why didnt VAR tell the ref to check the screen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Because they are all into the plan of sending Arsenal player away
