      @tomwaitsmencse it's a deflection to call out threats to a referee? But when Havertz received similar personal threats, everyone has to be on board and fully support him?
      The online threats and abuse is much more serious than a made-up "conspiracy" against Arsenal.
      You've just made an excuse for people to threaten Oliver because he got a decision wrong, nowhere do you say that the abuse is wrong. Very classy

  • @XayedAli
    @XayedAli 9 днів тому +215

    This problem is due to VAR and PGMOL doubling down on a mistake by the ref. They have flamed the tension by not just apologising for the incorrect decision and rescinding the red card.

    • @MrBrasserie
      @MrBrasserie 9 днів тому +6

      Let's be honest it was flat out cheating. No attempt to win the ball, kicked the player and could of caused a bad injury if he fell funny.
      In that context it's a easy red.
      But it's always a yellow given

    • @tomwaitsmencse
      @tomwaitsmencse 9 днів тому +5

      @davidbuisson they're complaining about serious foul play because a player kicked another player as he's running full speed with no intent to win the ball and the sole reason was to bring down the player risking Injury. Endangering a players safety is a red... crazy how people think it's ok and he was just stopping a counter attack.
      What's next just start rugby tackles or clothesline players if they've gone past you? Ah yh but it's just a professional foul...
      Nothing professional about what he did like he's never played a game of football before and wanted to hurt someone.

    For me what the PGMOL fail to do is take accountability... For example, when they made an error in ruling Liverpool's goal as offside against Tottenham, they took it in the chin and apologised... The outrage then calmed down from Liverpool fans as they saw that the PGMOL were accountable, when they failed to draw the Lines for the Brentford goal against Arsenal, they apologised and the fans calmed down... The problem here is that there was a lack of accountability in this case, yes Mike Oliver made a mistake and gave a red, the fire was then fueled when the VAR officials stuck with that decision, and then fueled even more by the Tweet from the PGMOL... Yes the abuse is wrong on the fans who have decided to send awful abuse to Oliver and his family and they are rightfully being investigated by the Police... However what should be taken into consideration is the fact that there was no abuse towards match officials when they took accountability and apologised for their errors

    There’s making a mistake and then there’s blatantly applying the rules incorrectly to hinder a team time and time again. Oliver is an experienced referee, he knows exactly what he’s doing by making rash unfounded decisions to negatively impact Arsenal. It’s happened numerous times.
    Maybe, instead of idiotic defending of such decisions, referees should call it out before they’re completely replaced by foreign competent referees. Won’t be long until there’s a series of lawsuits against the PGMOL by clubs. VAR cannot be run by PGMOl, they’re incapable of using the technology correctly. You’re ruining the game.

    4:50 - Refs can make mistakes as they are human. However when you are capable of doing a review, have more than one person available to tell you “have a look again” and they do not cause they are “afraid to oppose you” you can make anything look like a “mistake”, at that point whats VAR for ? Oliver has a history against Arsenal like it or not, stat proven as well. The mental gymnastics to protect him/PGMOL is ridiculous. Admit it was a bad call and move on. Hopefully Oli is ok and family is ok, but lads common

    I’d like more discussion around the decision. VAR upheld the decision saying it was serious foul play. Most of us watching thought it was for the last man rule. So they told us no, it wasn’t that, it was serious foul play. Now if it was, I think there should have been at least 50 red cards last weekend. Can we have a discussion about what they mean by serious foul play?

    I whole heartedly condemn any form of abuse Ref Oliver received. Abuse or threats are despicable and shouldn’t have any place in the beautiful game. However, I wonder how Simon came to the conclusion Ref Oliver made a mistake. Did the referee say it was a mistake in the match report? Also, I believe referees going over to the monitor helps them earn the respect of most fans watching, and makes any resulting decisions appear more thought through. For me, referees going to the monitor shows their humanity, and paradoxically elevates their individual as well as collective integrity.

    The EPL is at a fever pitch right now, and refereeing is only adding fuel to the flames. I'm worried that the EPL might implode if this situation isn't handled better in the future. English Referees MUST be held accountable or simple outsource it to other countries with great referees.
