Gotta let those emotions flow. You are in a major transitional phase, being a new nurse, adjusting to a new schedule, seeing some really intense stuff at work, and just generally being a 20-something figuring it out. It's a lot! I'm so inspired by your positivity and can-do attitude. As you always say, "we got this!" Your patients and co-workers are lucky to have you on their team. As a pre-nursing student I'm grateful to have role models like you :)
Wow!!!! congrats and thanks for the encouragement words for all the people who have not take the NCLEX yet. yes, it is a crazy test for sure. I also used Mis ELISABETH HELEN review material's. - I studied for 1 week and my test shut off at question 85. I cried too when I got my results. PASS
@@lorientheresa4844I'm sorry about your plight my friend but i was once in your shoes before i was recommended to Miss ELISABETH HELEN and that's how i passed My NCLEX exam
As a cancer survivor, I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your compassion. I have such gratitude for all health care workers, but those who choose to go into oncology you all hold a special place in my heart. We as patients are going through the worst in our lives but our doctors, nurses, and all technicians are there going through it all right beside us. Bless you. 💗
I have stage 4 melanoma. I was diagnosed two years ago with only 3 months left to live. Here I am now still beating those odds. I'm grateful I'm still alive and grateful for stable scans! You're doing amazing Kiara!!! ❤❤
Your video brought up a lot of memories of night shifts and starting out in my career. I also began my nursing career in Pediatric Oncology and there were countless shifts that ended with me crying in the car on the way home. Such an unfair situation for those children and their families. I stayed in Oncology for 3 years and then moved to Pediatric ICU. You have a very challenging but unbelievably fulfilling career ahead of you…
I am grateful there are nurses like you who care so much about the children and their families! Working in oncology especially for children must be very hard. But just know what a huge difference you are making in their lives!
As a genetic counselor (working with folks whose pregnancies have abnormalities), I related to the outpouring of emotion for myself specifically today! As another commenter said “it’s not everyday, but sometimes”. When your day-to-day involves dealing with suffering in an intimate way, it feels like every once in a while it hits you like a load of bricks. Anyway, I have been working for a little over a year now… and let me just say, your first year is the hardest. Misterwives said it best in their song “easy”: “it’s not easy, believe me. but it gets easier”. And I believe you when you promised you’re okay. I know you are. You’re doing an absolutely amazing job.
Stacy you’re gonna make me CRY!!! I love this comment so much. Your words are so relatable and comforting, no doubt a sign you’re an amazing counselor to your sweet families. Sending hugs your way tonight 💓
I forgot what you are dealing with when you are at work 🥺 You showing emotion reminded me and made me grateful for mine & my family’s health. My dad passed away while waiting for a liver transplant 4 years ago and my mom had close relationships with a lot of the nurses that helped take care of him. I am sure all the families you help are super grateful for you and your kindness 💛🙏🏻
the ending...we felt that through the screen 🥺 You are totally legit having those emotions; It's the hardest thing to witness people's suffering. ( + you must be tired AF too lol) when things get hard, remember the positive impact you have on your patients. You are beautiful in and out and so sooo strong my dear! ❤️
My 5 year old daughter was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma in May of 2021, and even though you don’t work at our children’s hospital, the Neuro Oncology team is AMAZING, compassionate, and truly like family. Just know you guys get us through ❤
I remember doing my clinical rotations in nursing school - one was oncology pediatrics and I went home crying after every clinical. I felt so deeply for the kiddos and their families. I realized then that I couldn't work with children. Going on 35+ years of nursing! Great profession and is challenging intellectually and emotionally. You're doing a great job Kiara. Just know it gets a bit easier as your confidence and knowledge grows 💪🙂
I worked night shift for 6 years and always felt nauseated from 3-6 am. I still love being a registered nurse 29 plus years later. Congrats on surviving the night shifts 🎉 You got this!
Little sister had thyroid surgery Tuesday and stayed over night at the hospital (she has Down syndrome and with prior chemo treatment she’s super traumatized with hospitals) seeing you break down about kiddos makes me appreciate nurses even more!! Thank you for being sweet and compassionate because it makes such a difference with kiddos and their families during such a difficult time. ❤
I really enjoyed this video! Sometimes you have to let those emotions out in order to care the best for your patients. I am thankful for nurses like you that truly care about the well-being of their patients and aren’t afraid to show it. I am excited to see you grow in your nursing career! I am grateful for my amazing parents for being able to send me to nursing school and I all the support they shower me with!
Thank you so much for watching & commenting...I think being in touch with our emotions can make us better nurses too! Hope school is going well and you're finding time to enjoy your summer too 🥰💕
This video reminds me of all the night shifts I used to do when I was nursing at the hospital. The nausea is definitely a thing! One thing that helped me get through the stretch of nights is to plan something nice at the end, such as catching up with a friend. I would find it super lonely going to work while everyone had finished working and was able to socialize.
Congratulations, Kiara on surviving your first week of overnights! 1st couple of stretches take some adjusting to but you appeared to do it VERY well. The crying after a shift happens to everyone. Not every day but sometimes. It is hard to shut down your emotions and honestly, you shouldn’t because it is what will make you the most amazing RN to all the littles and their families in your care. Losing patients is such a hard part of our jobs. I’d like to say it gets easier but it doesn’t. I try to take pride in knowing they had the best care I could be a part of giving to them. They had the very best shot at getting their health back. And I am grateful for every kindness I had the pleasure of giving them. What I am personally grateful for is being able to touch the lives of other people and hopefully shine a happy little light their way to make them feel seen, heard, and cared for.
Thank you so so much for this heartfelt message! Means so much coming from you & I seriously am so grateful for your support, validation, and encouragement ❤️
Kiara! You are so inspiring. My Mom recently went through 6 rounds of chemo for her 2nd battle of breast cancer and I am so beyond grateful for all of the wonderful nurses that helped her get through these hard times. It's nurses like you, who truly care about their patients, that make a world of difference in a patient's life. You are amazing, keep going girl
IDK how I got recommended this video but I'm an attending Peds Heme Onc doc and it was so real to see you feel those emotions after work. I think in fellowship i cried on my daily drive to and from and this job still amazes me. PHO nurses are the best and glad you're part of this field. Also I only work nights and the 2-3am nausea was so bad when i first started but high protein dinner around 9-10 pm with a sweet drink helps a lot!
Im currently a nursing student - about to start semester two. Im actually SO impressed that you are working night shift as you seem like a very morning person. I am far from lol. I can stay up all night and hate waking up. My study group actually jokes about it every morning in class! But I do appreciate you showing your adjustment because I have always wondered how adjusting to this type of schedule works. It makes me really excited to attempt night shift myself.
Absolutely adore pediatric nurses!( In the ER and inpatient) I’ve always had incredible passionate empathetic nurses for my son. Appreciate you all more than words can describe. ❤
I can tell that you’re an amazing human being with such a king heart. You’re definitely in the right career, and I’m sure all the children and parents are so happy to have you caring for them !!
I’m grateful that I get to work from home. I always thought my health would keep me from having a good career and never even knew WFH jobs were so common until right before the pandemic. I went back to college at 26 and got 2 degrees. I am 31 now and I have my dream job. All of my hard work paid off and I’m very excited for the future. We made it 🎉
I‘m so thankful for my Friends and Family because they always support me! I‘m currently in hospital and without them fighting would be so much harder. Gotta try to love life again, stay healthy everybody!
Today I am grateful for my son's health🤍 he has a congenital heart disease and had to spend the first 6 months of his life in the CICU as well as 3 open heart surgeries but now 2 1/2 years later he's home and thriving 🤍 as a nursing student and a medical mom I know the huge impact nurses can have on someone's life specially when we feel so vulnerable in those hard moments. You are an inspiration and I know you're the light in these kids and parents lives. ❤️
I started off with night shift when I passed my NCLEX. Went right into 11pm-7am at a nursing home and worked that way for 5+ years. It definitely begins to take a toll on your body but some people can handle it better than others. I’m working days now and in home health care with only one pediatric patient vs 30+ elderly patients and I feel like I’m where I’m supposed to be. Good luck to all us healthcare workers trying to get in where we truly fit in! Also, I truly recommend black out curtains for night shift workers, they saved me I swear.
I hope the transition to nights continues to go well! I am grateful for my two little ones, and cherish every night to help them fall asleep. I am excited and nervous for baby number three due in October. I hope you have a great week!
I plan on being a nurse when I’m older! I was born 2 in a half months earlier, so I’m trying to be a nurse because nurses helped me! Can’t wait to see your jounery as a nurse!
I love watching your nursing videos. It gives me ideas as a licensed RVT (vet tech) who does work in emergency as well as the emotions that I similarly go though too. When you started crying I started crying and wanted to jump through that screen and huggy you and tuck you into bed. Keep doing an amazing job.
In life, people are so concerned with what they take, but we lose sight of what we need to give. Your giving of your skills and thoughts to your patients shows what is right and needed in this world.
Brand new PICU nurse thank you for sharing your raw emotions!! I’m so grateful for the chance to be a nurse for kiddos on some of their worst days for them and the family
I’m grateful for the opportunity to get to go to college! I’m starting as a freshman this fall and i’m grateful to be able to afford my new laptop, housing, and dorm necessities/decor!
Dear Kiara! Ik you uploaded this video a while ago but I was only able to catch up with it now. I loved it. It was just so wholesome and put together and hats off to you for handling the nerves of a first day like that. It broke my heart to see you cry, it just hit me how hard it must be for all you beautiful nurses but to see the diligence and happiness with which you do your job is just so fulfilling! Keep it up, I am grateful for inspiring ppl like youuu🫶✨📝
Keep posting vlogs like this!! I’m a new grad nurse starting nights in a week and it’s so helpful and comforting seeing someone else going through the same thing I will be 🫶🏼
Kiara, you are the perfect soul to care for and help these families. ❤ Today we are burying my brother in law and our hearts are heavy and watching you just reminds me to be thankful for those around me. I hope you stay well and I look forward to the next video.😊
I am grateful I am I. A profession that I can love people so well and give them the care that they truly deserve! Also my dog for recharging me when nursing is draining ☺️
I def cried with you! My two nieces have both stayed weeks up in Portland due to health conditions that kiddos shouldn’t have to ever experience. So thankful for all the nurses who push through each shift and take care of everyone! 💓✨
Thank you for this video. I was just talking to my friend yesterday about needing to be more grateful about life in general, so this was confirmation. Definitely just got a new subscriber
You are such a bright light in not only all your viewers lives but those children’s lives as well through their hardest times. You are amazing Kiara always remember that you are making such a difference ❤❤❤
I didn't work in human med, but in vet med for almost 3 years I worked a variety of shifts from 2pm to 4:30am, 4pm to 2am, 9pm to 6am, 11pm to 7AM, and I'm so proud of you!!! It can be so rough sometimes to be night shift and feel like you're not part of the world because you're getting active as people are winding down/going to bed, but you are doing great!!! I know you'll be amazing at anything and this will be the foot into the door to eventually get on the shift you want! Keep rocking it! :)
Thank you so much for this encouragement! It is so hard to do shift work especially if lots of your friends just don't get it! I'm sure those cute pets are so lucky to have you in their time of need!
Hi Kiara! I am starting nights this week on a High Risk Postpartum unit! I am so grateful to be healthy enough that I can take care of others. Thank you for this awesome video, it has helped me plan out my sleep schedule! Would you do a "what's in my nursing bag video? Also, I love your Lulu backpack! Can you share the link?
It's really refreshing to see you express and feel your emotions about the job you have and love that you share a little bit of that life with us. Been watching all your vids from the start and I'm grateful to being able to witness your continuing journey. Wish you all the best towards all of it for you and can't wait to see more!
Glad you can relate...it's definitely a part of this profession even though it's not talked about all the time. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being a part of my story for all these years ❤️
You're doing great Kiara :) One small thing that I always forgot to be grateful of is that I am privileged enough to bribe myself to do things, just like you did in this video. I am thankful that I can afford to buy drinks outside, I know some people don't. Thanks for leading me to think about the pros of life rather than the cons :))
We love you so much Kiara!!! Thanks for sharing this, i used to work at a hospital too and it was heartbreaking sometimes. I loved the video, we missed you!
I'm grateful for my health and education in healthcare as well. It's difficult working with patients who experience difficult things, but we can make a difference in their lives for the better, which is rewarding to me. Love the video and I'm excited to see more of your night shift videos!
Hi Kiara! I’ve been watching a lot of your old videos as they’re my comfort and I’m so happy to see you posted!! I’m so proud of you and your journey has been nothing short of incredible!! So proud xoxo
I love your videos so much, I just started nursing school last year and have found your videos such an inspiration! Thank you for being so positive! You are amazing!
Try electrolytes for the nausea. I get nauseous when I get really hungry and/or tired and I’ve found them to be helpful until your body gets used to the schedule change. I’m grateful there are people like you out there taking care of people with such compassion and grace!
I work the night shift as well. I go to bed between 3-4am (sometimes 5) get up at 0930 with my hubby, see him off to work, (at 1030 am) go to my room and get myself ready for bed, then go to bed until about 1730 ( I live 10 minutes away from my hospital), this is on my first day, second and third days, I come home eat breakfast, shower, hang out with the pup, and try to stay up until hubby gets up ( doesn't always work, on these days I'm in bed by 0900) I sleep in the spare bedroom on these days because I do not want to wake him up. Then I get up at 1730 and start my day getting ready for work. You will find your groove. I am grateful I get to be a nurse and help people in their darkest times.
This is so helpful to hear what other people do! And also so inspiring to see how you find balance in your busy day...I feel lucky to help as well despite the funky schedule haha
Kiara, you absolutely rock! You are such an inspiration and I’m so grateful to get a glimpse of your day to day life. ( I hope that answers the question of the day, because I’m truly grateful to get to know you through your videos) ❤️
I graduate nursing school next week. I did my practicum in pediatrics and absolutely loved it! I’m not sure where my first job will be but I’m hoping PEDs That emotional ending was so real 💕
OMG SO SOON! Big congrats to you for completing one of the biggest challenges and rewards of your life. Excited for you to actually get paid for clinical hours, in the mean time celebrate and make all the fun memories before your nurse schedule starts :)
Hey.. I hope u see this msg… I just wanted to say I love ur all ur videos a lot … I take these as inspiration to organise my daily life as well .. I am not an expert like u but I am trying my best … lots of love from India 💜😊
I am grateful for the job in the Law firm I am right now. The people are really nice, talkative and a good work environment. Even on the days with a lot of work and stress we are able to help each other. Have a nice day Kiara
Night shift will get easier. I did it for many years. You can also be more employees when your tired. But work with sick kids is no easy task. There are many life lesson to be learned here. But you have the heart of an Angel and I’m sure will bless your patients and their families. ❤
So I work 2p-6a ( 6:30) sometimes and that’s a 3 day span and I sleep from like 730 -8 to 12:30 and get ready to go back to work. I usually get 4 hours sleep
Congratulations on your first night shifts! The nausea is real though- bananas and plain yogurt really hit the spot in the morning after work and forcing myself to eat a solid portion helps me sleep longer!
Welcome to my world. I work in retail from Sun-Thurs 10p-7a and my sleep is split too. I try and sleep 9:30a-2:30p, eat and then sleep 6p-9:30p. I’m use to it for the most part but I love when I get off I can do errands or doc appts with no crowds or hassles. I’m so grateful to even have a job like I do in retail and during corona time it didn’t interrupt it. It help my boyfriend and I close on our dream house in 2020. Hang in there girl and I’m so happy u take us along for the ride and trust me you’re not alone in any of this. U laugh, we laugh..u cry, we cry..We’re family ❤
As a nurse who has done permanent nights for 17 years another way to do it is go to bed at midnight or 1am get up at 7am go about your day then back to bed at midday. I start work at 1900 so get up at 1630 to have dinner see my hubby and son and get ready for work and leave at 1800 for work.
Just in case it might help you, I got some temporary black out curtains (with little Velcro strips you cut) on Amazon that I can take down and put up when I choose (I live in Canada rn, and it gets light so early in the summer). Also have one of those little alarm lights that warms up gradually before I have to wake up.
Ohh that's a great idea and tbh I didn't know they even made those! So far my eyemask has been a total lifesaver but I will keep that in mind as a solid plan B!

It’s great that you can show the realities of your nursing job.
I’m grateful for the opportunity to get to go to college! I’m starting as a freshman this fall and i’m grateful to be able to afford my new laptop, housing, and dorm necessities/decor!
Congrats x
Ahhh so excited for you to start your big college adventure! Soak up all the mems ❤️
I’m a new grad nurse starting nights in a week and it’s so helpful and comforting seeing someone else going through the same thing I will be 🫶🏼
Kiara you are special and one of a kind and people are lucky to be cared for by you and you are lucky to care for them.
Thank God for nurses like you.
I just started third year of med school! these videos are so fun and I love seeing your day-to -day
I'm grateful for the peds oncology nurses that helped us through the loss of my big brother to ewings sarcoma when I was a kiddo ❤
I’m so sorry for your loss.
Wow congratulations on making it as a nurse!!!!!!!!! I just started following your channel
Best sleep mask ever! I've had mine for years.
Yes!! You really have to build in self care in this profession!
I def cried with you! My two nieces have both stayed weeks up in Portland due to health conditions that kiddos shouldn’t have to ever experience. So thankful for all the nurses who push through each shift and take care of everyone! 💓✨
So lucky to help care for the most amazing families, thank you for watching! Hope your nieces are doing well ❤️
You’re doing great work! Thank you for normalizing emotions that come alone with hard emotional work. Super proud of you ❤
Thank you for this video. I was just talking to my friend yesterday about needing to be more grateful about life in general, so this was confirmation. Definitely just got a new subscriber
You are such a bright light in not only all your viewers lives but those children’s lives as well through their hardest times. You are amazing Kiara always remember that you are making such a difference ❤❤❤
you're gonna make me cry 🥰💕 ily
Whoa I cannot imagine doing a night shift and am very proud of you! I'm grateful for my friends, family, and good health!
Such good ones! I felt the same way but it is surprising what you can get through some times!
I am grateful for my life! So far it has been great!❤
So happy for you :) keep living it up!
Aww I love you! Thank you so much for watching!
I'm grateful for my health and education in healthcare as well. It's difficult working with patients who experience difficult things, but we can make a difference in their lives for the better, which is rewarding to me. Love the video and I'm excited to see more of your night shift videos!
So true!! Thanks so much for watching & commenting, hope your shifts go well this week :)
Hi Kiara! I’ve been watching a lot of your old videos as they’re my comfort and I’m so happy to see you posted!! I’m so proud of you and your journey has been nothing short of incredible!! So proud xoxo
Thank you Franny!! I'm so lucky to have you coming along for the ride!
I love it! Thank you so much for the tips!
What a gift you are!
I'm thankfull for the amazing people who are always by my side and for the life I have♡
RETWEET.
Aww I am so grateful for you! ily ❤️
I graduate nursing school next week. I did my practicum in pediatrics and absolutely loved it! I’m not sure where my first job will be but I’m hoping PEDs
That emotional ending was so real 💕
OMG SO SOON! Big congrats to you for completing one of the biggest challenges and rewards of your life. Excited for you to actually get paid for clinical hours, in the mean time celebrate and make all the fun memories before your nurse schedule starts :)
Hey.. I hope u see this msg… I just wanted to say I love ur all ur videos a lot … I take these as inspiration to organise my daily life as well .. I am not an expert like u but I am trying my best … lots of love from India 💜😊
what is your schedule? do you only work 3 days a week 12 hour shifts?
I have the same sleep mask and I love it! I work in staffing for my local hospital so I work weird hours as well.
I am grateful for the job in the Law firm I am right now. The people are really nice, talkative and a good work environment. Even on the days with a lot of work and stress we are able to help each other. Have a nice day Kiara
It is crazy how a good work environment makes everything better! So happy for ya!
My daughter will be having her first night shift on her new nursing job after graduation. Hoping to learn tips on how to support her!
Night shift will get easier. I did it for many years. You can also be more employees when your tired. But work with sick kids is no easy task. There are many life lesson to be learned here. But you have the heart of an Angel and I’m sure will bless your patients and their families. ❤
Aww thank you! It has been really nice to get to know my coworkers better so that's definitely a perk!
So I work 2p-6a ( 6:30) sometimes and that’s a 3 day span and I sleep from like 730 -8 to 12:30 and get ready to go back to work. I usually get 4 hours sleep
I am thankful for a family who have supported my weird throughout my life without knowing that the "weird" actually was autism
Aww family is everything ❤️
Congratulations on your first night shifts! The nausea is real though- bananas and plain yogurt really hit the spot in the morning after work and forcing myself to eat a solid portion helps me sleep longer!
Ohhh that sounds so good! Thank you for the inspiration!
Wow that’s actually so inspiring to hear and such a good point, there are some perks to working a unique schedule 💓
Grateful for my family and that I am about to start nursing school Aug 28 😮
Where did you get your Hydro flask cooler bag and what size and color do you have ?😊
Proud of you Kiara! I so love watching your videos. Keep on keeping on! :)
Thank you so much!
I’m so excited to watch this I can’t wait❤️
Eppp thank you for watching!
