I would assume every option before he gets snapped was out of question so it leaves only the options that would enable him to fast forward into the future. With the combo out, he likely chose the option where it actually produced the desired results. At this point, Thanos has 4 stones so even if Strange tried to pull any time shenanigans, Thanos would have immediately wised up. The route that they took was one that did take Thanos off guard to have this outcome. That and it looks like peering into the future is a very mentally taxing effect.

The way Thanos accepts defeat as he sees his troops falling one by one, knowing he was unable to complete his mission and accepts it like a true man. Abssolutely brilliant and chilling.

Apparently, RDJ wanted to say “oh, snap” or some other silly line that would have absolutely taken the audience out of the moment. I can’t remember if it was Favreau or someone else who suggested “I Am Iron Man”, but it was the best goddamn line for the scene
I knew when I saw this movie, Marvel would never be able to top this moment. Too many factors had to come together to make it great. Following so many movies for such a long period of time, is really a once in a generation feat.

Lets be honest pre thanos getting the stones as long as he is in space he is vulnerable. assemble a vast vast fleet and he could be taken down.

I know I remember everyone packed around me in the theater screaming cheers and applause at that, but everyone went silent and cried hard when the next scene happened.
I missed seeing Infinity War and Endgame in the theater with my kids because I was working in Afghanistan for a 5 year period. I will regret that forever. I saw Darth Vader save Luke in the theater with my Dad, and it's something that I still think about - especially since he's gone now. I wish I could have shared something like that with my girls.

I like to think that Tony Stark specifically made it so Thanos poofed last, so that he'd have time to watch all his efforts turn to dust and think about the reality of his "inevitability". In an interview they revealed that the time it took to become dusted directly correlated to the strength of the being. That's why Spiderman was the last person to dust, because his power levels are completely off the charts. So much so that the comics reveal he has to hold back so as not to just immediately kill people in a single punch. Similarly Thanos was the strongest person on the battlefield that got dusted, to the point where not even the full force on the nanosuit could do much more than cut him. His army was the chitari who Rocket reveals isn't a particularly strong army

Consider that because of this the Avengers saved another universe from Thanos and his snap. EVERYTHING after the start of Guardians Of The Galaxy involving Thanos and his minions never happens. Gamora lives, Vision lives, the refugees from Asgard aren't slain (not sure but maybe the Dwarves aren't slaughtered either), Xandar survives (although Ronin is probably still running around), Strange never loses his spot as Sorcerer Supreme, Stark never dies, Spider-man never gets his legacy or gets his life ruined so no encountering his counterparts, etc.
To this day, I still like to think that The Snap could have just made everything disappear, and not necessarily turn to dust. I like to believe that Tony was 'petty' enough to replicate the dust thing, force Thanos to watch the same thing happen to his army, before he finally turns to dust as well.

I saw a comment a long time ago saying they would’ve preferred this to be Loki’s death. The comment said “Am I the only one who thinks that Loki should have saved everyone instead of Iron Man? I think this would have made things more perfect and he should have hung around Thor and help him out during the final battle in Endgame and if he had to die, he should have died after living with Thor and getting along with him, not get killed when things were starting to go well with them. It would have been better and ironic if Loki saved everyone since he was the first major Avengers villain and he ends up saving everyone sacrificing himself. He gets the stones after tricking Thanos and you see Thanos with all 6 stones and Thanos snaps his fingers but it is revealed they were illusions made by Loki and Loki, who is wounded, snaps his fingers. This also shows his true character as Loki was not the most trust worthy and he could have done anything with the stones but instead sacrifices himself to save the universe and defeat Thanos’ army. He could say “And I am Loki Odinson” And before he dies due to the immense energy and being wounded, he tells his brother “I told you, the sun would shine on us again, brother”. He then dies and his skin turns blue, reminding people he is a frost giant and also indicating that it is the true death of Loki since his skin was originally blue. Loki would be fully redeemed from this act and I think it would have been better”
I kind of feel bad for Thanos, part of me is happy that the Avengers won, but the other half is sad because the way he continues to look around seeing his men and all his accomplishments and hard work disappear into dust, knowing that he is next.
I still doubt this was the only way. Perfect chance was when Starlord was about to attack Thanos. Knock out starlord, take the gauntlet, portal Spider-Man off the planet with the gauntlet using the sling ring, then hand Thanos his ass. Without the gauntlet mcu Thanos has no hope against Ironman + Dr Strange. Both of them held their own while Thanos had 4 stones.
It's a testament to how well Thanos was written and performed that you almost feel bad for him when he realizes he's lost. He really thought he was doing the right thing. Though he was cruel and egotistical at times, he was logical and dispassionate about his convictions, and truly believed he was working for the betterment of the universe. He's a fantastic villain - not wholly evil, just flawed.

I didn't realize how the stones were eating away at Iron Man's nano armor just before he snapped. Tony would've been fried had he not had the armor.

I still doubt this was the only way. Perfect chance was when Starlord was about to attack Thanos. Knock out starlord, take the gauntlet, portal Spider-Man off the planet with the gauntlet using the sling ring, then hand Thanos his ass. Without the gauntlet mcu Thanos has no hope against Ironman + Dr Strange. Both of them held their own while Thanos had 4 stones.

It's a testament to how well Thanos was written and performed that you almost feel bad for him when he realizes he's lost. He really thought he was doing the right thing. Though he was cruel and egotistical at times, he was logical and dispassionate about his convictions, and truly believed he was working for the betterment of the universe. He's a fantastic villain - not wholly evil, just flawed.

Because that'd be a short term solution. More resources means population eventually growing bigger meaning more starvation from said resources after some time.

I am convinced that Thanos dusted last because Tony wanted him to see the totality of his defeat - even if just subconsciously.
Seeing the stone’s energy rip through the nanotech suit like paper shows how much it must have hurt.
