If you don't mind me asking how much do you make doing this what education does this take and what is the personal life like are you always on the rails or ?
Current class 1 railroad conductor/ engineer here. Salary depends on what kind of work you do. Generally working a yard job as a switchman doesn't pay as much as a road conductor. Switchmen are probably in the $70k-$90k range. Road conductors $80k-$130k. Working the yard means you're home every day. Working the road sees you away from home for 1-2 days then home for a bit. All you need for education is high school diploma or GED, plus the ability to piss clean and pass a hair sample test. All other training is provided by the company. As for personal life... it's possible. Easier if you work the yard since you're home every day. Working the road is harder. Lot of divorced railroaders out there. You have to prioritize time with friends and family while you're home while not being able to make firm plans since you have no schedule and are on call.
He missed the part where it smells like piss and the A/C doesn't work. To be more real he should play this at 3 a.m. I just had my first daylight in three weeks.
Your dynamic brake is an engine brake, when your going down a grade you wanna use the dynamic brake alone unless your in a runaway situation. Take your throttle off and put the dynamic brake in setup because it needs to build up, the dynamic brake is a very powerful brake.
Lol sorry, that's not exactly accurate. Dynos aren't an engine brake. To summarize it briefly, they're a traction motor brake, but that's a common misunderstanding. Also, although dynos are our primary method for speed control down light grades, we absolutely do, and are required to use our automatics for balance braking on Cajon and anywhere the engineer feels setting air is necessary. The dynos generate immense force against the cars and can easily derail the train.
Cajon Pass debuted in TSW3 as a launch route, but was updated with Fast Travel for TSW5. It relies heavily on using your Dynamic Brake. In real life, you'd literally melt your Independent and Automatic brakes going downhill with a heavy load. The Dynamic reverses the polarity of the traction motors. But will only work with the throttle in idle, and has to be in Setup for 10 seconds first. (In the famous 1989 San Bernardino crash, only two of the four engines had functional Dynamic brakes, and engineer Frank Holland literally melted the Automatic brakes as the train became a runaway).
Fun facts about these locomotives -the engines don’t actually run the wheels the diesel engine runs a giant electric generator that powers Motors that turn the wheels. -The Engines are what are called a 2 stroke diesel. Based off the GM Detroit 2 stroke “Jimmy” engines and the locomotives have 645 EMD units. Which means each of the 16 cylinders are 645 cubic inches of displacement.
If I was a video game designer I would not rest until I designed a Simulator that could encompass Trains, Planes, Trucks and ships all under one roof! Great video 👌
Hey Trev, I think you might have added an extra zero to the horsepower. The model name of modern GE locomotives will tell you how much horsepower they can produce in their name. For example, this locomotive is an ES44C4, the "44" in the middle of the name indicates this locomotive is rated for 4,400 hp. Similarly, another very common GE locomotive to see in freight service is the ES40DC, with the name indicating "40" for 4,000 hp. The last segment of the model name will tell you if the train operates with AC or DC traction motors.
Well, Trevor, if your Youtubing doesn't pan out the way you want, you can always go to any train operator and tell them you have experience. I'm certain they will hire you on the spot! This game looks sick.
As a real life locomotive engineer after tieing onto 30 plus loaded/empty cars I would not get her back all the way (straight to throttle 8) with cars you are asking to get a knuckle or draw bar and possibly derail.😂
Being how much enjoyment he is getting from this game, it makes me wonder how much joy he would get out of seeing these in real life. Trev, pay attention next time you get stuck waiting for a train at a grade crossing! Lol
Fun fact: in real life when I'm shoving back into the B yard light power to grab cars, i come off the independents completely and just tickle the dynos to hold 10, then i control it down to 1 or 2mph to come to a hook using independents. Then when you got the train moving and went straight to notch 8 i cringed a little lol. That's a good way to get a knuckle and piss off your conductor lol
In the dark scenarios, I wish you started with the cab lights on so you can actually see where everything is. I've spent so much time looking for a light switch lol.
The freight trains run on the tracks beside my house which connect to downtown where I work, so it’s all day everyday train sounds for me lol. I’m here for this series. I wanna know where these things go!
Love the content brotha keep it up! You outta do the Amtrak train from San Diego to Santa Barbra it runs along the ocean! I take this train everyday from Carlsbad to La for our family business and love the views along the way.
It’s funny how realistic this is considering I do this for a living, tho I am surprised the FRA didn’t come in here and be like bruh don’t show people how to run 😂 Tho I am sure the foamers would figure it out

Trev you should watch the tv series hell on wheels it's somewhat a true resemblance of how to first train track was built across America, it's honestly a hands down must watch mate give it a crack
I wonder if there is an overnight sleeper train, like they have in Switzerland i think, you'd see great sights as the conductor, or even as a passenger, loving the videos Sir, thankyou. 😊❤
Too bad you can’t smell what most of those locomotives smell like lmao 🤣 also when you have a big train, don’t use your independent! You’ll melt the brakes on the locomotive. Use dynamic and automatic

Short answer u will make a lot of money but the big down side is u will be gone a lot
N most class 1 railroad jus require a high school diploma
