    I am literally using that mode the next few days to experiment when doing general out and about photography on my Nikon d300s.There is the option of exposure compensation as well. Using RAW 14 bit.

      No worries Dave. I never use it either but I thought it would be good to do a video on it to show what it does.
      I'd stick to either A, S or M... They offer much better solutions but it sounds like you're there already. 😁

    Hah,hah - a "lightbulb" moment. Mike! From now on I am going to think of "P" mode as "ISO" mode! Still doubt if I'll ever really use it, though but I will play around with it just to test it out for fun. The best thing that I ever did was to only use Manual mode for a year and really get to understand the basics of the exposure triangle. These days I am letting myself shoot in Aperture mode once again but now I control my ISO ( not just put it in Auto) and get much better results. I also like to shoot in full Manual when I have a still subject, time or have trouble focusing. There are some benefits to not being able to get out of the house! I am steeling myself for a grocery run! Hope you are doing well and stay safe.

    • @mikesphotography
      @mikesphotography  4 роки тому

      Excellent! That's definitely a way to learn a mode fully...and a great bit of dedication in staying in manual for a full year!
      I don't really use it either but I thought I'd go over it so people understand what it does. 😁👍
      As always, thanks for watching and commenting, much appreciated!
      We're all good and staying indoors...although I am dying to get out under the stars!! 😆 I hope you and your family are staying safe as well! 👍

    This was great, Mike. I have never snapped a frame on My Sony A7iii in Auto or P Mode. I don't say that like some badge of honor, I just watched so much training online prior to purchasing my camera, that I went straight to Aperture or Shutter Priority and then to Manual. I really need to make a point of playing with those, just to see what the differences are, in case I ever want to use them or if I ever hand my camera to someone else to take a photo. I hope you and your wife are continuing to do well, brother. Hopefully, we are getting close to finally getting back to a more normal world.

    • @mikesphotography
      @mikesphotography  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks dude. I realised I hadn't covered P mode, so I thought I might as well fill the gap. I'm like you in that I either use A, S or manual...they give you much more control over your camera. If I ever get someone else to use my camera, I just switch off backbutton focussing, set it up for them and then let them frame and shoot...most of the time it works! 😆
      We're good, finally off the 24 hour curfew and just on 10pm to 6am curfew...can't wait for it to be lifted though as I'm dying to get out into the desert under the stars again!! I hope you're keeping safe too and your beer stocks aren't dwindling too much!! 😆
      Stay safe! 👍

    I use mostly aperture mode and only a few times shutter or manual mode for specific situations.
    Now I tried out the P mode a bit and have to say, that I don't see a big difference between P and A Mode (sony alpha 6100)
    In both modes I can pick my aperture and the shutter gets set automatically. If I set a fix ISO the shutter is always the same in both modes, if i set ISO to Auto, there is a bit difference... The aperture mode sets the ISO usually a little bit higher and the shutter a bit faster then the P mode.
    Is there any big difference between this both modes that I don't see? So far i could not pick one over the other.

    I use P mode quite a lot, I use it as iso mode on the a7iii, you set minimum shutter speed, you can set max iso, I have found it works well when I am struggling to keep the noise levels on pictures down. Maybe look at the northrups p is professional mode video. Great video a lot of info in a short time, but there is a lot more to this mode as I am sure you are aware

      That's good to hear and I'm glad you're getting good use out of the P mode. This was more of a quick introduction to it and I'll be sure to check out the Northrup's video... I'm sure they did a really good job of describing it.

      @mikesphotography  4 роки тому

      Hi Tal,
      I don't at the moment, and with the lockdown it's almost impossible to get out where I live.
      The best bet is to try different modes to see which works best for you and the conditions you are in. when the conditions are changing it can be challenging but, certain modes work better. When the conditions are changeable, I tend to shoot in aperture priority and then use the exposure compensation to get the exposure to where I want it.

    • @mikesphotography
      @mikesphotography  4 роки тому

      Are you shooting handheld or from a tripod? Also what are you photographing?
      If the shutter speed is too low, either the camera movement (handheld) or your subject moving in the shot whilst the shutter is open are the normal culprits of blurry shots. 👍

      Unfortunately I don't use the Fujifilm cameras... however, looking at the photographs of the camera, there is the main dial like on the Sonys on the top of the camera. Your modes are on this dial. P,A,S and M are all the modes you will need once you understand the principle settings; aperture, shutter speed and iso.
      It might be worth searching for a video on how to use the Fujifilm xa10.

    Box head Mike new nickname “Duracell/Energizer Bunny” Mike; steady stream of lockdown posts while other channels go “grey” or lapse into “self-pity” mode.👍 Not your usual A7III; assume has to do w/flash demo. Don’t use P mode, but am intrigued/puzzled by the “P*” mode icon that toggles on/off with “P” during settings changes. Manual calls it “Program Shift” but is rubbish at explanation other than cryptic ref to low light. Any advice?

      I've been trying to come away from the A7iii tutorials a little as I've covered most things that I need to on it...although the odd one or two will keep cropping up from time to time. 👍
      The P* seems to come on when the shutter drops below a certain level.
      I'm going to investigate it more and do a video on it soon.

    I teach Photography for 15 years... P is very bad for beginners, either we care more about Apperture or we care more about Speed, I advise A/AV, S/TV or M, depending on what you are shooting... I can see some specific uses for P, in quick paced events where your priorities change constantly, but it takes some experience to keep on top of it.. Avoid P Mode...

    • @mikesphotography
      @mikesphotography  Рік тому

      So in the memory modes, you need to set them up from the menu.
      Change the settings to what you want in your normal modes, so if you want manual modes in your custom mode options, set it to manual.
      Go to tab one in the menu, page 3/14 (It might be slightly different depending on what firmware you have) but you're looking for MR Memory with two little camera logos. Select this and then select the number along the top to which memory option you want to set it to.
      When you select this with the center button in the back dial, this will register those settings to the custom memory slot, so whenever you turn the mode dial to this, it will always go back to those settings you set at this point.
      I hope that makes sense, Thanks for watching 😁👍
