This is exactly what I needed in a video explaining the modes on Canon cameras. I received an 80D as a gift years ago when it was still fairly new and I was so overwhelmed by all the options I put the camera away and didn't dare use it unless it was in auto mode. I'm picking it up and playing around more lately. Your explanation was so helpful! Thank you!
Great video, I mostly use TV since I like moving photography I feel like if I don’t have time to mess with settings while my subject is moving around and I’m moving around to. But when I am doing my landscape I am starting to use manual mode more
Awesome Will, I am new to photography but i do understand manual mode to a certain extent and use it most of the time. Some times apature prioriy and sometimes shutter prioity. The p mode i didnt understand but now do. I wont bother with it as i know how to set my ISO or use auto ISO'. White balance is definatly something i could learn more about. Well done on this video mate. 🤠
Thanks man! That’s great to hear. I’ll have to do a video, more in depth on white balance. I do have a video currently on it though if you’d like some basic info.
A little point of correction... with AV and TV you not only have control of the speed and aperture and EV, you have control over the ISO also unless you deliberately leave the ISO in auto.
I won't shoot in manual, and I don't feel bad about it. I'm all aperture priority, babee. I want to focus the subject/subjects, and frame things in a way where I have to do very little post. It's never going to be a lucrative side-hustle for me. I just want to love being behind a camera.
I use auto and TV mode when I get frustrated I am not getting the picture I want. I may start using some of the other ones especially C1 C2 which I didn't know what they where for.. 👌🏻 great video
I want to appear clearly with the background. I have a Canon EOS 6D Mark II camera; What camera do you use, please, in this video? Please reply quickly
you want to use a high fstop like f16 or be very close to the background yourself. check out this video: ua-cam.com/video/Pkgf41f9mxU/v-deo.htmlsi=WxnoExtQ2EYYUSV5
Thank you for this. I’m new to photography, I just got an Olympus pen EP3 and I’m having a blast. I do have a question though… when you are just walking around doing quick street photography, are you in Manual mode? Do people change all of their settings all the time as they walk the street and take photos? It seems like it would take away the flow of just shooting and moving and shooting and moving. Makes me want to just stay on Auto in that style of shooting, but I don’t know what people usually do? Thank you.
I’m usually always in manual. I’ve shot long enough where adjusting the settings on the fly doesn’t really bother me and it’s basically second nature. However there’s nothing wrong with using say Aperture Priority that way you can just adjust your Fstop and the camer will do thé work. Or shutter priority. I stay away from full auto usually because I want to set the Fstop for the proper depth of field. Hope this helps.
@@DarrenBrown-ht7bg thats the goal :) keep an eye out because I will be launching a "basics course" that covers the settings in depth. Do you get my emails?
Although i have lot of things i do not understand as i am considered completely beginner with little knowledge only, thank you for the video nonetheless :> there is a question i wanna ask, when i tryna record myself talking, my camera keep defocusing as i move, unlike ur video it is very still, do u know why is it? i use Fujifilm X-A3 btw, thanks
@@willsimpsonphoto ah i see, i found the solution btw, turns out it was a setting called "digital image stabilizer" which is turned on. Thanks for you reply, cheers :>

actually yes! I was in South Africa in 2021 and we had planned to travel to some other countries including Zambia. But with COVID it almost made it impossible.
So many modes, so little time... I think I use 2... lol! Which modes do you use the most?
AV or Manual with auto ISO

love to hear it! Best thing to do is to just practice, great thing about digital is if you mess up a photo, just delete it and try again lol
We need more people like you, keep it up 🔥
You got it :)
Informative video. I am using this for a video to share with my student in my beginner photography course.
That’s awesome! Tons of other beginner training videos on my channel as well.
I went from auto to manual I have never used any of the other modes either this was actually really informative 👍
Nice! One of the best ways to learn you camera is just to force yourself into manual and go for it!
Your video is very straight forward , comprehensive thank you.
thats awesome! Glad it was helpful :)
This is probably thee best explained video I’ve ever came across.
😍😍😍 love to hear it!

thats awesome! Definitely the right time to use Tv. I don't think i've ever really used that mode myself. mainly Av and Manual.
Excellent. I understand the camera now.
NIIIICE! Love to hear that!
This is great; so informative! Thanks for this. I just got a used 7D, and I'm in the process of trying to learn how to use modes OTHER than auto…
That’s awesome! Well this will definitely get you started! I have about 200+ videos that will get you the rest of the way 😃

Yep, you’re right, but also only on some cameras. Just wanted to be super simple here and give a basic overview

Right information✌🏻

im unfamiliar with that particular camera. The autofocus might not be as good or maybe theres a setting for "tracking" that isn't selected.

I like FV on Canon M6 mark II.
thats a cool mode, it's like Manual but allows you more freedoms to set other settings to auto. Its like a blend of all the modes together.
Wow

Manual mode
It’s a good mode that’s for sure
Is it just me hearing the background music or something aaaa classical type chorus 💀
It very well could be 😂
I watched this from zambia africa😂 ever hear of that

My first time picking up a DSLR my uncle started me on manual. I've never used another mode. Oops
Thats awesome! Thats basically what I did and I highly recommend that method. Nice work!
