About:
Based on T. S. Eliot’s Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, the show is set amongst a larger- than-life junkyard playground and is alive with our favourite feline characters including Rum Tum Tugger, Mr. Mistoffelees, Macavity, Jennyanydots, Old Deuteronomy, Grizabella and Skimbleshanks.
The Jellicle Cats come out to play on one special night of the year - the night of the Jellicle Ball. One by one they tell their stories for the amusement of Old Deuteronomy, their wise and benevolent leader, who must choose one of the Cats to ascend to The Heaviside Layer and be reborn into a whole new Jellicle life. - Розваги
If you think about it, this musical makes complete sense because it’s just cats focusing on themselves for an hour
Yeh but it's also describing all the different types of cats and how no matter what type of cat all have something great to add, all are loved and accepted and they're strong together which is the same for how we humans should think of each other too :) and in the end many of them wanted to be reincarnated but ended up sacrificing their chance to save the cat played by Elaine Paige :) so we have to make sacrifices and be selfless too to be fair to each other.
Actually, the musical has a backstory. And I know it because im working in cats at the moment. Just googke it, youll find out the real story😉

He's just adorable. He's also modest- although he sings quite a few numbers, none of them is about himself. He also seems to motivate or temperate the others. He's probably following Old Deuteronomy footsteps
The amount of talent and athleticism this opening number takes is astounding.

I'm also upset that Mistoffelees's actor has never been in any other filmed show or anything. He's a great dancer, singer, and is positively amazing.

Not to mention this was filmed over 20 years ago, most of the cast would be at least in their 40s by now! Besides, I’m pretty sure only Fergus Logan (and oddly enough, John Partridge) trained at any of the Royal Ballet schools.

I remember just over a week ago, being said man who hadn't heard of a Jellicle Cat. Now I can name at least half of them in this lineup, and I feel like I know way more about them than any one person should. There's a strange quality about this musical that really just draws you in, and once you've seen it once you can't simply move on. And being stuck at home with little else to do probably isn't helping

@@wollow2102 I'm a teen that grew up on Grease, The Sound Of Music, Rocky Horror and Les Miz with some old-old-school musicals sprinkled throughout, and I'm a fan of Hamilton(and I also hate BMC with a passion).
The rhyme and flow is amazing, the beats are sick and the story is told beautifully.
I really think you're just living á la "popular thing is bad, less popular thing is amazing" when it comes to musicals.
"I wish people my age appreciated works of the past more." Isn't a good look on any type of fan, it just unnecessarily limits your taste in musicals and you'll eventually find you were sleeping on amazing works of art and wondering "how did I only find out about this now?"

@@wollow2102 well, to be frank, Cats is in no way a musical made to be liked by a lot of people. It's weird and unusual and Andrew knew this when writing this musical. Mainstream doesn't like stuff that isn't relatable(at first sight) and Cats has nothing to latch on to for the masses.
You also have to take into account that teens that have been on the internet enough more often than not have a distaste for furries. And to anyone else but a musical fan, Cats is just a bunch of furries.
I came to scrub and cleanse myself from the 2019 movie trailer the only way I know how... by reliving the REAL Cats experience I know and love

omg I loved the movie! Funny, I didn't enjoy the first performance I saw. Since I saw the movie (twice actually) I'm dying to see it live.
I'd rather watch this version of Cats again than the Universal abomination. (By the way, never saw the theatrical film and I hope I never will.)

What I love about CATS is you can pick any cat in the show and look for him or her in the background. It’s fun to see interactions. Right now I’m enjoying Asapargus (not Gus the theatre cat), the one who first notices the man whose not heard of a Jellicle cat. I think he’s played by Tony Timberlake. Anyway. I seems like he’s a senior cat who is good friends with Skimbleshanks. Anyway this is so rewatchable because you can pick up on relationships. Fun fun. And Asparagus is adorable, I think. Love his put out expression in this. :)

Huge cheshire grin on my face now. I get a real kick out of the lyrics and movements. Every line references a cat throughout history, or describes a cat quality and of course everyone moves in a cat-like manner. Awesome, Pawsome, Clawsome! They really become cats, must have studied the way felines move and mimic / personify them with respect and flare.

Most noticeably, Deuteronomy doesn't have a beard, Grizabella looks way younger to the point of being almost unrecognisable, and Rum Tum Tugger has shorter hair and doesn't have the big shoulder mane. I'm not gonna pretend to know how time works in this musical, cause Gus goes from being an adult to being very elderly for the duration of just one song- by the end of Skimbleshanks the Railway Cat he's back to normal- but aside from those weird moments, I do think you're right and it's supposed to be all in one night
@@coryman125 As far as I know, there are two different cats named Asparagus. One of them is Gus the theatre cat and the other is just a chorus cat. I don't know why they let this happen.

Maybe it was out of context. I had no friend to tell me what they loved about it. I watched it on VHS alone. Next day a co-worker asked me if I liked it and if he should see it. I was like, "well, if you're interested in seeing a bunch of people dressed up as cats, singing nonsense and crawling around the stage in leotards, you might like it."

I've been in love with, in awe of, and inspired by cats since early childhood. They unite people throughout the world with love.
I hope many more production's showcasing cats will evolve in theatre, art, and fine arts.

I never get tired of watching this
I love watching this cast so much!! This was the first production I ever saw (sadly, I never got to see the show live) and the way they perform the choreography is just breathtaking. It’s so fun to see great dancers perform complex choreography that, if you yourself were to try doing, you’d probably hurtle headlong into your fellow dancers.
This performance touches your soul. Incredible show
Here is the storyline. Demeter had children with Macavity, who are: Victoria, Etcetera, Jemima, Electra, Rumpleteazer and at that time Bombalurina, Demeter and the kittens were being abused by Macavity, they ran away and eventually found the Jellicles, they joined them and Macavity is jealous so each year he comes back and tries to take Demeter and the kittens away.
Rumpleteazer and mungojerry are twins, though
Is that the story from Old Possum's Book Of Practical Cats? To follow on from that, in the play... Grizabella is a succesful glamour cat who went from riches to rags and is rejected by the rest of the Jellicle's. Once a year under the full moon, all the Jellicle's come together to celebrate in the Jellicle Ball, where at dawn Deuteronomy chooses one cat to be reborn and live a new life in the Heavy Side Layer. "Memories" is the song about the moon light, Grizabella's old life and her dream to be reborn, and at dawn Deuteronomy chooses Grizabella to live a new life in the Heavy Side Layer, and all the Jellicle's finally touch her to learn what happiness really is. According to Andrew Lloyd Webber the moment the white Cat touches Grizabella is the most pivotal moment in the play.

This chain has become more on discussion of headcanons ratjer that confirmed things, like Mubkustrapa and Tugger being Deuteronomy's sons (pretty sure thats canon. Heck) and that Grizabella had done something or other for the jellicles to treat her as they do

I can't decide by if phantom or cats is my fave.... I saw the original in 83...I was 23! we got some great musicals.... chorus line, cats, phantom...then Broadway died...where are the writers?!

이효령 His mane and his wig are both put on after this number (kind of like Baby Grizz) so its kind of like a costume suprise thing, and the audience isn't looking at the same thing the entire time, and his appearance is different. Also, with all the dancing, it's probably really hard and hot to dance with. 🙂

Maybe he messed up the note or something. Although, considering he's one of the best at getting in character it might have been something sudden like trouble with the costume.
