RS200 at the Lindisfarne Rally - 1985

- This short film shows the world competition of Ford's RS200, developed as a rallying Group B contender. Although driver Malcolm Wilson describes it the Lindisfarne rally as a test run, he and co-driver went on to win the event. The RS200 was Ghia designed and promised much but following fatal crashes in the 1986 WRC season, the FIA abolished Group B and an adapted (E2) version RS200 had limited success after that.
I was a spectator at this rally. Happy days. Afterwards, went to the John Brown road rally based in Barrow in Furness, then on the Sunday stopped by a single venue rally at the Peterborough show ground. Not sure I would manage all that now 😂

i went to phil spurge's rally school back in the mid 80's, some lad rocked up in a road going rs200 and took my brother for a spin in it!
There were 13 stages, Tony Pond was fastest on 9, and Malcolm Wilson 4. The only reason Pond finished 6th was because after stage 7 he received an 8-minute penalty for being late at a check in. Otherwise he would have won by a country mile. But hey, it made Ford look good. The only time Malcolm drove the RS200 in anger, and Ford dropped him. But MG signed him up the next week. Ford decided to sign Stig Blomqvist and Kalle Grundel instead. The Ford was the faster car and could even have the turbo boost wound up to 500bhp. The MG Metro 6r4 had a max of about 400bhp, but it was a strong, light and decent car - when it didn't break down.
