This film was made by UMP, United Motion Pictures (they used white Ford Transit SWB crew buses with 3 litre Essex engines). It is a compilation of footage taken from the Grandstand TV rally reports. I think that this was the best period for motor rallying with so many different manufacturers entering the British Championship as well as the World Championship. I was exceptionally lucky to attend many of these rallies, and got paid to do so, as I was a staff sound recordist for UMP at that time.
@@danross8565 Yes it did, United Motion Pictures was taken over by Barrie Hinchcliffe, who directed who directed the company's motorsport and motor industry films, and he renamed the company Barrie Hinchcliffe Productions - and of course BHP was a very suitable name for a company so involved in such work.
The glorious days of rallying, awesome cars, great drivers and incredible fan following. Those days are gone forever. 8:15 - 8:27, Mr Escort RS himself, the late great Mick Jones, an incredibly brilliant mechanic who mastered the various Escort RS derivatives to great effect. Boreham's finest.
Heroes in wild Fords (& Vauxhalls, Triumphs, Fiats & Lancia's) - the golden days of rallying. I can't imagine they were always easy cars to handle under the circumstances.
Nuts! Is all I can say. Nuts! I rallied in Africa but regulations rallying with a couple of special stages but this is uncontrolled suicide. Impressive none the less.
I can't believe how privileged I was to live through this era of rallying. (and music) My idea of driving "quite slowly" and Tony Pond. RIP.) differ slightly.
Great to see killmakilogue Harbour..a short stage a good drivers stage just after the healy pass, often 10s were made up in approximately 8 miles...and also Derrincarrin where john lyons was off Near Glengarriff West Cork @paddy Sullivan VHS 📼 1990s 🇮🇪

Mick Jones is one of the many behind the scenes unsung heroes of motorsport.
Thanks 😊
