    Breaking down how I managed a 3rd place finish in the first cat 2/3 crit race of the season and talking about the most obvious but in this day and age often overlooked thing to get you to finish better at your next race.

    Loved this breakdown, Ricky - thank you for the work you put into it for us. It's so nice to see what happened while you discuss the race, shortens the learning curve for guys like me. Congrats on the podium too!

    Watts up kid! You are 100% right when you say the gifted don't matter in cycling. Only hard work does. Now if the gifted work hard then the rest have a problem. Every other sport the talented and the gifted always Shine without putting in too much hard work. Cycling is a fitness based sport if you don't have the fitness no matter what skills and Gifts you have will not help you. In basketball football baseball being gifted and skilled can get you to the top every time. To get to the top in cycling there's no way you could avoid the hard work.

      You got it. The more fit we become the more genetics play a role but we are all Cycling Virgins unless your last name is Sagan, Froom ect.

    Hey Ricky, that big dude who was shoving you around is Michael Dritlein, a former NFL wide receiver. No wonder he's build like a freaking bank vault. Funny he couldn't handle a little bit of contact without flipping you off.

      Dude is a complete and utter prick. What kind of idiot flicks someone off for bumping in a crit? Too many hits too the head during his NFL days and now he has a hairline trigger.

    Great video, thanks for the commentary. Can you do a video on the importance of fitness or what you did to get fit for racing off the bike?

    • @CyclingVirgin
      @CyclingVirgin  5 років тому

      Yeah I will talk more about the things I do off the bike. It doesn't take much time just a little hear and there to help keep things happy.

      Actually I am asking did you do some work off the bike that helped your fitness while on the bike, ex cardio workout.

    One thing a coach will do is steer you away from over training. A under trained athlete will kick a over trained athlete's ass every time No body needs 40 hours a week to amature race, what's that 800 miles. BS.

    • @CyclingVirgin
      @CyclingVirgin  5 років тому

      Re watch and listen. I corrected myself and used 20hrs a week as my example. And 18-20 is what I see the pros doing durning training blocks.

    Good breakdown....the big guy I see is okay with pushing if his wheel is more forward....so just get your wheel ahead of him and he is all behind you. Also he was just saying you where his number one fan hahaha

    That big guy has got some serious tri-cep gains on your average cyclist. Calves, people who work very hard get good calves.

    "The guy in blue again...the mosquito as he has come to be known..." he's everywhere in the race b/c anyone wearing some blue was that "guy in blue" !
    So the camera flipper won the race & you got to stand on the podium with him?! I'm sure he apologized .

    Genes matter at every level. To say otherwise is wrong.
    If your followers really want professional advice, I suggest they check out TrainerRoad Podcast.

      They do. But training matters more until you get to the very top of the sport. That is exactly why trainer road exists because winning or losing at a cat 2 level isn't a test of who has the better genes.

      @@CyclingVirgin Any sources? It might start to matter even much earlier than cat 2 based on Coggan's quick calculation here: forum.slowtwitch.com/forum/?post=2830698#p2830698 . If you're average person. Not average cyclist, because I assume people who are good at cycling from the get go would be more likely to keep cycling than the ones that are not so lucky. Anyway, now imagine if you're below average. Like, maybe this dude here: www.reddit.com/r/Zwift/comments/ckgd6h/my_first_week_of_zwift_the_good_the_bad_the_ugly/ Check out his power data as well. Those numbers aren't exactly nothing to write home about after 7-8 years of pedalling, overweight or not. I admire his dedication and motivation tho, way to go. I'm not sure I could do it and would try to pursue something else. Unless his power pedals are broken of course.
      Edit: ok, bad example. But still I'm not sure anyone from the street could just train to have enough power to win cat 2 race. Even if they trained 20h a week for 3 years. I wish there was a study.. :)

    the middle finger was too funny. armchair psycho-analysis: as you said, he got much stronger over the winter and came out with a super-cocky attitude. didn't look to me like you did anything rude to him whatsoever.
