It was fun watching your video.
I'm almost 60. I raced cat 1 in the 80's. I ride with a group of old retired guys. I'm one of the youngest in the group. There are a few guys in my group that used to race. But for the most part, the men in my group have been riding for 30 to 40 years.
The main difference in your group compared to mine is smooth peddle strokes. I can tell that there are a lot of (comparatively) newer riders in your group.
I hope one day when your old like me, you get to experience a group of riders that roll like glass!
Silky smooth peddle strokes make the group look like the pro peleton.
Happy riding for all the years of your life. Keep growing.

you really feel like a wizard riding with a good group of guys down the open road. I had a dude throw a beer bottle at me as he passed me on a country road a few months back and it has kept me off the bike ever since. trying to get over that and get out there by watching videos like this. thank you for the upload, god bless

9 months late on this video. Just wondering, since your such a seasoned rider, why you rolled out with just coffee? I always eat a big bowl of oatmeal and drink a 20 ounce bottle of water with it. Then the first hour of the ride I feel like super man! From then on I stay hydrated and take a gu gel with caffeine in it every 45 min to an hour. That way I stay strong the whole ride.🤟😜🚴🏻‍♂️

Sweeeet way to start my Sunday morning. Keep em coming! Can't wait to see you climb the fitness ladder. Any plans of documenting all your numbers for a future video?

Just a quick comment on expectations to pull through. I do agree with your points. Group rides are usually pretty friendly with people who know one another. They aren't races, but people can sure make them race-like for the fun of it. In our group, we ride together in the first half (fast pace line rotation) and race on the way back to where we started. We have several routes and we all know when the "race" is on. At that point, there are no expectations to help pull or do anything. You can sandbag if you want and attack or sit in and sprint if you feel like it. However, it is a bit jerky to do that and you'll likely get some comments for doing it. Now, I'm a watt-limited rider and I'm not the strongest or fastest sprinter in my group. I'd say I'm in the 2nd tier of ability within my group. Therefore, I need every advantage I can to beat the faster guys. Some of the other 2nd-tier guys and I occasionally team up and strategize to jump the better racers, meaning I have to sometimes hide and then attack. The stronger guys make comments, but it's all in good fun. Truthfully, it pushes them when we do stuff like that because they end up having to chase one of us 2nd-tier guys while someone else sits in behind, waiting to attack later. It rarely actually works since they're that good, but sometimes we pull it off. We can't do it all the time or it's predictable. I have to just ride most of the time and pull the sneak attack every so often. The bottom line is, get to know your group and don't be an ass. Sitting in and then attacking regularly will likely gain you no friends.

Just found your channel...loving the content. I appreciate you showing us your group rides since this is wha I primarily do.
What I don't understand, with a group this big, why are you all riding so close to the right shoulder and line? Just take the whole lane. It is much safer and forces cars to go around you using the next lane available.
Double pace line with rotations coming off the front one at a time work best, that way you are not more than 3 wide in a lane at anytime. Those rotating off the front, need to go all the way to back and as quickly as possible. No rider should be opening up a gap to let a rider rotation get in (unless certain circumstances).
I am thinking about doing a UA-cam Channel that focuses primarily on group ride etiquette and focuses on SAFETY first and foremost. Most the the stuff that I see here on UA-cam is NOT SAFE at all and keeps rookies away. Thanks and keep it up!

It's good to take time off. Getting back out after a break will hurt. I've been there too. If the ride starts cold like you said 40s and warms up to high 50s or 60s I would bring a thinner jacket to shed off or vest as I'm in California. I tend to ride hotter and can tough the cold *high 40s to 50s* if I know it will warm up. If its 60s going warmer I dont bother to bring a jacket. This last weekend I rode it started low 40s and maybe got to 50 still chilly end of ride w a base layer and long sleeve jersey.
I think you said coffee w sugar, if you had sugar that prob did you in. I ride fasted for at least first 3 hrs then have Justin's almond butter. Keto and if. Anyways you'll get back in shape in no time and look forward to more videos!

You should ride rollers for a bit. You’re all over the line. That’s a really patient group. Most regular groups would have been all over you for not holding a good line and overlapping wheels.
Honestly, the best thing you can do to avoid injuring yourself and others, is to get a set of rollers and learn to hold a stable line. When you go into oxygen debt, it gets worse.

All the rides iv'e been on, I NEVER ride, to the ride. You blow your energy before the hammer-fest. Also, In SoCal you never know what going to happen on the ride, and who will show up. Some of the rides have 140 riders, So I ride all wheels and conserve energy all the time. All this just to say you beat your buddies to coffee and donuts.
