I think the 'ugly sketchbook' is perhaps the most important sketchbook as it's the one that allows one... (me) to be the most free, and get over the resistance of the blank page. Leigh, the expressions on the faces of your animals are just... unparalleled. I love them!
As a viewer, i LOVE watching sketchbook tours and listening to you reflecting on your art. But I think it is SO important for you, for any artists, and really anyone, to have a secret garden, art that they keep to themselves. I encourage you to keep some of your art for you, if you ever hesitate. As viewers, we don’t need to see or know everything. Boundaries are loving, helpful and healthy! Cheers 🥂
Quick tip, to paint on a paper who don t handle it, you can paint the page with gesso before, let it dry open and then paint it with acrylique or gouach. It take a little bit more time … very inspiring video !
This sketchbook tour video came at exactly the right time. I was having a not so good moment at home and this cheered me right up. Thanks Leigh, you're the BEST!!! 🥰🥰🥰
Your so cute! Before Instagram sketchbooks to me were supposed to be really rough sketches ideas writing. Now it seems everyone has fully finnished art pieces in there sketchbooks. Which is fine and beautiful yet I also enjoy seeing the unfinished rawness of a sketchbook that serves as a place to experiment , plan, test , swatches , plan bigger pieces. But I also have sn affinity for finnished artwork that’s purposely unfinished. This is gorgeous so fun to see! The colors and subjects just ur overall style is right up my alley:)
"Usually don't watch my video but watch my sketch book tour"😅 1000% right coz I and I'm sure everyone else watch literally all sketch book tour no matter whose video it is 😅😂 and your cute birds brought me here can't resist there cuteness 😅
Hey a fellow climber! Had this on in the background but the minute you mentioned red river gorge my ears perked up. Literally my favorite place in the world. 😊
I also love how fun and casual this sketchbook is. I think artists underestimate how much we love stuff that to them may have come easy and was even fun to do. I'm not saying we can't work on improving and developing ourselves. And of course that process is a big part of what makes art so fulfilling. But you've already worked so hard to get as good as you are now, and I'm clearly not the only one who loves your style, subjects, and use of colour. You love what you do, we love what you do.
9:30 so cool that you used your highschool self as inspiration! 🥰 Your work in this sketchbook is beautiful and interesting. Love all the colors and subjects, and how the white space varies from page to page.
I admire so so much how you approach your sketchbook. It's taken me years and years to start allowing myself to loosen up and be more experimental and free in my sketchbooks. I always struggled with perfectionism, even if no one else saw it -- I put so much pressure on myself to make each page ✨art✨. Your work over the years has helped me realize that the fun is in the messiness and casual approach. You've helped give me permission to loosen up and try new things and make art that is straight up weird, because it's all a part of the beautiful process. Thank you for making this sketchbook tour, it's always so inspiring! Also I'm drinking water, thank you for the reminder.
your sketchbooks are the reason i started having fun in my sketchbooks and experimenting with gouache, water color and pens !! i adore your art style sm ahh i live for these sketchbook tours
I lovee how you use your sketchbook with lots of colors! I’m usually a pencil + black ink sketchbook girl so always get a lot of inspiration seeing your videos 💗
Thank you for sharing how you have used your drawing sketchbook for experimentation, idea generation, notes, etc.. "Ugly" (working) sketchbooks are so valuable to process and development. Love your work!
Your channel, vibe, art... you in general are so inspiring. I would love to have my own artshop one day, kind of like you... only my version yeah! I am just drawing like nuts right now... Thank you for inspiring me with your beautiful art and chilled out self. I am grateful to u. I hope to purchase a print from you soon to send a bit of support for all you do. Stay hydrated and well.
omg, this is my first time watching a sketchbook tour that is so casual. You make me remind myself that its okay not to be consistent at times! Your video makes me feel no pressure and its okay to have ugly pages. Thank you!!! 💗💗💗
Hi Leigh I’ve just graduated and currently in between jobs!! You and Megan Wang have inspired me to get groovy and start creating art for fun! Thank you, your videos are the highlight of my weeks 💗
Love, love, love this tour! Cas/uggo/chill sketchbooks are sometimes the best sketchbooks. And I had that strathmore once. ONCE. Because I began to resent it for never chilling out and laying flat. So that's my review no one asked for.
Just discovered your channel this morning! First video I've seen and happily subscribing for more!! I love your art and your care free mentality. I plan on making art videos soon and this has inspired me to do a sketchbook tour hopefully soon. Love your work ❤ had a lot of fun watching and hearing your commentary
Thanks for sharing your sketchbook with us, Leigh! ^_^ I always love seeing how experimental you are in your art making. It encourages me to try more things in my own sketchbook!
The pages of drawing requests are some of my favourite! So nice and satisfying to look at. I would buy Toadie on the leaf In some format in a heartbeat! Also the black texter flowers + cows is brilliant :) xo
Handy tip for A sizes! A4 is basically the same as Letter/8.5×11. Each A size is half or double the next A size. So cut or fold an A4 in half like a greeting card, and you get A5, A6 is half that, A7 is half that. Double an A4 makes A3.
Ok I’ve noticed that about strathmore sketchbooks before, I had a mixed media hardcover that would really not stay open. Its kind of a pain especially with mixed media!
Love this sketchbook tour, so coming back to rewatch it…it’s on in the background quietly at work with captions, and your name was spelt “Lee Elison”…cracked me up, as you were trying to explain how to say your name, and it had it so wrong 😂
This was great! Thank you so much for sharing! Super inspiring 😊 I got a fresh Sketchbook in the beginning of the year and want to use it just like this! As a low pressure journal type sketch book
In case you wanted to know, the difference between an artist and an illustrator is the type of message conveyed and not visually how it looks. An illustrator must illustrate the message/concept of a client in order to be diffused, usually for advertising or to illustrate a text. The artist instead create art with personal meaning. You are clearly an artist and an amazing one!
I always enjoy your sketchbook tours! I only wish you inserted close-up footage of each page, so I can see your artwork better! (Similar to what you did in your previous sketchbook tour videos.)
My sketchbook and I have a complicated relationship that I’m trying to work on. It was a work horse when I was in college so I’m trying to bring it back to a friendship again 😊
Everyone stop with the sketchbook comments! She said it in the video and she just wants more comments so she can get UA-cam rich. Don’t fall for the trap! #freethinker
hey leigh what sketchbook do you use thanks
oh, this one? this a J14 magazine, thanks for asking Cheyenne!
@@LeighEllexson I was really glad to see a sassy question out-sassed by an answer, thank you both.

Perfect timing!!
Hi Leigh, I'm just wondering? What? Is? This? Sketchbook? Thanks!
🤣😂😆
it's a math textbook I refurbished :-)
She says it's a Strathmore (5.5" x 8") but not sure what model/type!
@@LeighEllexson LOL 😆

I appreciate so so much that you always remind about drinking water. It’s so simple but so easy to forget and I really appreciate that. Love you girl
Your shirt! I love the kitty with 10 legs!
