To go easier on your tranny when parking on an incline, with foot on pedal brake, shift to neutral, pull e-brake, let go of foot brake and let the truck settle into the e-brake. Then shift to park. Otherwise, all that weight is on the drive shaft. That’s just how I do it. Feels easier on the transmission when shifting into drive while parked on an incline.
I also have a 1984 Cressida with the 3 buttons for the transmission. ECO Normal and Power. Reminds me of the Tow Haul in the Tundra. The 4Runner doesn’t have anything.
I like the video, awesome. I just bought a 2022 Tacoma. I’ve been driving a Tundras the last 10yrs. I was trying to understand this ECT PWR button. Thanks man
When towing my 20 ft bay boat I always use sport mode in 5th gear, does a great job. Only ever tried the ECT button a few times towing the boat and it wants to stay in 4th gear. Sport Mode works best for my use.
My 4runner shifts very weird after the battery has been disconnected. It takes about 1k miles for it to relearn how I drive. Until then it feels very sluggish. Iv noticed the exact same thing test driving a new tundra when I own one already. The transmission will learn how your drive and will adapt.
Wouldn't the mpg be the same with the ect on or off? When on, higher rpm, lose mpg. When off, step harder to get burst of speed, lose mpg. At least on, it handles better and extra power on standby.
I just traded in my speedy Elantra GT for a Toyota Sienna and was hating how slow it was until I found that ECT button. 😍 Sport mode for sure and I'm keeping it on!
Good vid, I will definitely try it out on my 2020 TRD off road prem. Seemed to hunt a little for gears when using cruise in hills where my 2008 TRD did not.
Yeah watching this I had to to dealer today and sit in both tundra and Tacoma pro they had on showroom. I definitely like interior of the Tacoma and hope the 10 way seat in 2020 makes seat comfort and position lot better. Tundra was very comfortable and that interior dash and stuff would be great in tundra
My 1999 Taco had it and I tried it a few times and noticed nothing. Maybe I didn't try it in the right times. Hope if the Tundra get a gauges change they keep the full gauges and be nice if they brought back the trans temp gauge Nice for us that tow and have mountains to climb
Thanks for posting this. Couple of questions... can you engage the button on the fly? Also, will this work ok for towing lite trailer so it won’t labor on tranny?
Thanks for demonstrating the ect mode, have you tried putting the trans into sport mode, s4 or s5? It's basically a gear limiter and used for towing to keep it out of over drive. It would be cool if you tried towing the boat with it and gave us your impressions compared to the tundra. I'm considering one of the 2 and not quite sure yet.
Thanks for the video this may be a dumb question but is that the same thing as an overdrive button? We noticed our Tacoma was shifting a little hard and the guys at the dealership said take it out of overdrive but I don’t know where that button is 😬
thats on your Automatic shift lever its right under the push button to shift the auto into drive or even a single gear choice Like L but overdrive only works in Drive, the overdrive button allows u to cruise on the highway with overdrive off the car goes into higher rpms which is great for hills the ECT power allows u to take off after a stop and its more responsive
Anthony Hamby First and second gen manual tricks had a turn knob ebrake on the dash. I think they switched it to make production easier and not need a different one for auto vs manual.
@@donovanwells7716 Perhaps ECT only made a difference with the 4.0lv6. I had the 2.7l I4. As I said, it didn't seem to do anything at the time with my Tacoma.
this car is an Automatic my Toyota Caldina has one and if i have it on and launch from traffic lights i can just bring it upto redline if i wanted i only go up 5,000rpm and get to 50km/h on the same gear with it off it goes to 3,000rpm instead then shifts
Okay I have that button in a 97 Toyota 4Runner and I could never figure out what it did. And I just turned it off and for many years I had very good fuel economy and I just thought the 4Runner was getting old. So maybe I should try the button maybe it'll be a lot faster again? I don't know I just pulled a Airstream tonight and it was a 22 footer living space with tongue was 25 ft camper. I never could get this power and speeds like I used to and I wonder if maybe that button did something that I used to have the power back then that I don't know I'm going to have to try it tomorrow. Does anyone know if the power button works well on the 4Runners third generation?

Big fan of the ECT button on my Tacoma as well. I’ve done several mpg tests with it on and off and the fuel economy is the same.
I had ECT on my 1986 Toyota Cressida Station Wagon...I chuckled when it was described as innovative.
😂😂

@@LesFishingMoreCatching same here too

I only use my ect button on the highway so I can get up to speed real quick because I have the 2.7 4 cylinder and it's super slow

With larger wheels and tires, ECT all the time.👍
I would be nice if these were all modal buttons. I cant stand changing them every time I start up the vehicle.
When I use the ECT on my ‘16 it seems to drag the gears out longer which is good. Sometimes it shifts to soon and lags. With ECT on, it shifts later.

So, it's a function many many many other vehicles had 20 years ago. Cool.

It's only meant to get around federal MPG regs.
you would think toyota would fix the transmission shifting by now people have been complaining since it came out in 2016
mario they pretty much have with a lot of tsbs, not perfect like the old 4.0s but better then 2016/17
Ect has been out way longer than 2016....I have it in my 04
@@ericfisher1203 I have it in my 99 Avalon

Can you leave the ect button on all the time without damaging the transmission/truck?
My 1999 Taco had it and I tried it a few times and noticed nothing. Maybe I didn't try it in the right times.

I just saw the newest Tundra at my local Toyota dealer while getting my Tacoma serviced & this is what my face looked like lol: 🤤
And it help for towing thing
Thanks for posting this. Couple of questions... can you engage the button on the fly? Also, will this work ok for towing lite trailer so it won’t labor on tranny?
My Avalon has it. Also operates all 4 cams for max power.

Just got my work truck and I’m 2 weeks in and I barely noticed the ECT PWR button. Hope it helps me on the freeway lol
Thanks
Wow. I grew up in jersey. It looks like you’re around seaside Tom’s river-ish.
I have it on my wife Lexus IS350. MUCH better than regular.we have it on full time.
how has it been?
Would it not be better to use the manual shift option than ECT.
Great video! Awesome! 👍😎
Kinda like the tow/haul mode on the Tundra? I scare the crap out of my wife every time I use it😜
Can you hit the ECT button while already in motion?
Yes, at least on my 17' tacoma I can.
Iv always just explained it as Toyota name for overdrive
Thanks for the video
this may be a dumb question but is that the same thing as an overdrive button? We noticed our Tacoma was shifting a little hard and the guys at the dealership said take it out of overdrive but I don’t know where that button is 😬
it is a small button on your shift stick

How bad did this effect your MPG
it doesn't change the MPG as stated on the first comment
Old fred would like to get one a them ejector seat buttons with a panorama sun roof with a real wide opening for the mrs.
Can it be activated while driving at 60mph?
yes
Are you in outer banks nc???
Is it the same in the 99 rav 4. ?? Can you push the button on the fly ?
I have a 00 RAV4 with an ECT button that works the same as this
Just noticed they have a hand ebrake now. The last gen had the foot. Wonder why they switched it.
Anthony Hamby First and second gen manual tricks had a turn knob ebrake on the dash. I think they switched it to make production easier and not need a different one for auto vs manual.
Will it become faster?!!!
Is this similar in my FZJ80?
AKA Tow haul mode.
I had a 95 tacoma. I tried that ECT button on and off and found it didn't do anything discernable.
it only increases responsiveness i have it only my 97 caldina and its great for taking off from red lights and getting onto highways
@@donovanwells7716 Perhaps ECT only made a difference with the 4.0lv6. I had the 2.7l I4. As I said, it didn't seem to do anything at the time with my Tacoma.
Aww ok I have a 2.0 I4
So you can drive with the ECT power button with out shifting ? Or it’s mandatory to drive shift with the ECT power button ?

Can I press this button while moving?
So I've got to ask, at this point are you still more on board with the 4-runner, or has your time in the taco changed your mind at all?
Next livestream we will address that
Tacoma's ain't shit until they get an OV tune!
Dash is shaped like the first gen tundra in my opinion.
Try the ect with the sport !!!
Does it stay on when you turn off the truck?
I dont think so, but my old man just bought a Tacoma, so ill double check
WHERE DID THE TUNDRA GO
Its in the driveway 😁. This video was with a Tacoma press vehicle a few years ago.
will it hurt if i let the ect pwr on 24/7 ?
i dont know why soMe people dislike such videos..?!,😡
tacoma pwr ect norm
Are u on hampton beach?? Lol
