I really enjoyed this two year update. I removed the front air dam from my Tacoma also and agree it makes the truck look better. Keep up the great work!
Had my Tacoma for three years and no regrets. Only thing I don’t like about the truck is I keep getting notices about extended my warranty and dealer keep asking to buy my truck back.
I got a offer for 43k they just want to buy our truck so they can either sell us their newer one when we get to the dealer ship and see the new stocks. And because they'll upcharge our truck
I think dealership are trying to use depreciation on their favor. They want to buy your car/truck the first year or so to try to get a deal from you while keeping the 1 or 2 year old cars artificially high cost by creating artificial demand. At the same time they want you sell you a new one and get from you all those dealers charges.
I have a 2021, so far with mine, i have found the door panel to be a lot more sturdier than the previous 3rd gens that I’ve been in and driven. Toyota must’ve heard the complaints
I recently picked up a 2021 Tacoma and both my front driver and passenger doors wobble. The passenger side is slightly worse. I'm wondering if it's because of where it was built or if there's another issue.
Perfect for a single guy or if it’s just you and your lady. If it’s you, your lady, and a baby in a car seat...you’ll be looking to trade up for the Tundra or F-150. Baby wasn’t in our plans when I got my Tacoma.

Glad to hear that your bug deflector is working out great for you! About a year ago I switched from the AVS Bugflector II to the AVS Aeroskin II. I had a local body shop color match the deflector to the truck and, while I think the new body-color Aeroskin II looks better, it doesn't do nearly as good a job of deflecting bugs as the Bugflector II did. Still, it does just as good a job of protecting the hood paint as the old one did. Oh well, you gain some and you lose some.
Hey Isaac, love your videos and your candor. I have a 2017 Tacoma and had a lot of issues with the shifting. I ended up getting it tuned with KDMAX 6.0 at an event in Phoenix, AZ. It made a night and day difference in the performance. You may have seen posts on the forums about that tune and I can tell you without a doubt that it's worth every dime. The truck holds gears properly, has absolutely no weird shift patterns that I've seen, and feels like it has more power, WAY better acceleration, and makes it much more of a pleasure to drive. Just figured I'd pass along the tip. Anyhow, keep up the good work. I'm looking forward to seeing more content from you in the future. God bless you in your endeavors.
I just watched a "Bros Fourr Speed" UA-cam video that dealt with installing aftermarket speakers in a Tacoma. When the brother removed the driver's side door card, I could see an L bracket bolted to the inner door to which the screw at the bottom of the door card's grab handle is fastened to. Perhaps the L bracket in your Tacoma's driver's door has come loose?
@@vaajchang Many people shake their heads at Toyota’s decision to put drums on the rear of the Tacoma. Fans of other trucks point and laugh. However, there are a few good reasons why Tacomas have drums: Cost: Drum brakes are cheaper to manufacture than disc brakes, and Toyota passes the savings along to its customers. On the Tacoma (and most unloaded pickups), the front brakes do 70%-80% of the braking. The rear brakes are barely doing anything. For this reason, drivers do not notice a difference in the braking feel between the Tacoma with rear drum brakes and other trucks with rear discs. Off-Road Robustness: Drum brakes have an advantage off road. They are not as likely to ingest a pebble and have it lodge between the shoe and the drum. Pebbles do get stuck between the rotor and disc on disc brakes. This isn’t a huge problem, but it is annoying. Less Maintenance: Perhaps the biggest advantage of having drum brakes on the rear of the Tacoma is that they will go a really long time before needing new shoes. Many owners report that they are well past 100,000 miles before the brakes need service. Most disc brakes would need two sets of pads and a set of rotors by 100K miles. So the Tacoma’s drum brakes save the owner quite a bit of money. Even though drum brake shoes last over 100K miles, they will need to be replaced eventually.
Just got a new to me but used 2019 Tacoma , Thanks for this video, not many videos talk about the jump on the transmission and I was worried mine was like that due to it being used. Seems like it’s a Tacoma thing & Only happens basically when entering the highway but besides that love my Tacoma ! Blessings from VA !
If you have an opportunity to get kdmax tune its changes the transmission dramatically. I previously had the ovtune and this one is way better. I got the super light throttle regular fuel. Please pray that God reveal all our corrupt politicians. Great video. Thanks for what you do
A mechanic friend told me about the "acceleration stumble" issue (the gear slipping when accelerating) and he said that's easily solved with a software upgrade.
Great video, these are tough trucks that are well built. I've put 30,000 on mine in year 1, and it still looks and feels brand new. I probably will go for about 300,000 and expect few problems along the way.
I've had my 2018 sr5 for almost 4 years and I've put over 90,000 hard kms on mine (off-roading, overlanding, hauling/towing). I moved my fiance and myself into our first house, with nothing other than the truck and a dual axle trailer, it endures the harshest Canadian winters and has held up amazing, has always started in -30 celcius no issues., It just passed mvi yesterday, haven't put a single part on it yet, not even brake pads. most reliable vehicle money can buy. great video buddy.
Toyota has an update for your transmission, take your truck to the dealership and ask them about a bulletin update for your transmission, sorry I can’t remember the bulletin number . But they do have an update.
I have a 2019 sr5 access cab. My friends have their gm, ford and chrysler vehicles in the shop way too frequently for extremely expensive recalls and repairs. My repair bill is $00.00.
The thing about Toyota is on some models they don’t put a lot of money into things like door panels and all these little things your pointing out they put it in the parts and that’s why these truck last so long and it’s why I love Toyota there a little bland and not luxury on the inside but all that extra money is in the parts and IT SHOWS
Great informative video Brother Isaac! I have always liked the Tacoma myself! I am currently still owning my 3rd Toyota Camry, this time is the 2019 Camry XSE. Only have just 14,100 miles on mine. I had the same safety recall on the fuel pump and never had any trouble with the original either. I will always appreciate you sharing a passage of Scripture! From one fellow Christian to another, stay Blessed! I appreciate you and your channel! Mark in Iowa.
@@AlphaShark I have to add that I found your channel and video on your Tacoma and your business back in 2019 when you first posted that you purchased the Tacoma. So I've been following you since that time! Stay Bold and strong for our Lord and Savior! Mark.
Loved my '16 Tacoma, but traded it for a new F150 a few months ago. Couldnt stand the transmission shifting on the Tacoma, and all the squeaks, clunks, rattles from the dash and body mounts < started at 10k miles. The power, transmission, ride/interior noise and mpg is way better than on the F150.
Same here 17 Tacoma I'm a toyota guy but the transmission made me switch, took it to the dealer twice but they stated is normal, I wanted a tundra but it was to expensive, I got a 20 ford f150 5.0,fx4 package for 5k less than the tundra.
@@AlphaShark The Tacoma was the perfect truck for SoCal, where I was living then, squeezing in parking spots and hauling a dirt bike to desert/mnts. But back in Northern WI now, towing a boat and bombing thru snow. The F150 suites here better, u couldnt pay me to drive a full size truck in urban CA! LOL. The Tacoma was the truck i WANTED, but like I said the trans pissed me off so much. Had the gear ratios from 3rd>4th been the same ratio apart as the other gears, and it didnt try to upshift so early or slam into 4th on the highway non stop I would have dealt with the rest. BTW it was a 2WD 2.7 motor, and with the 4.88 gears and Cooper AT3s that thing went thru EVERYTHING being so light and the Trac Control. I towed 2500lbs from WI >CA doing 65mph in 4th gear, no issues at all.
Love the bit at the end about everyone loving different trucks and how that makes you happy. I have a 2020 Ranger FX4, and man I love it. Tacoma's are sweet. I'd argue there the best looking truck out there, but the seat height was a deal breaker for me. The Ranger has such a comfortable seating position. I've been blessed enough to take 2 road trips this year, and I have no problem driving it for 6+ hours. Also, I love the transmission and engine in the Ranger, it's quite zippy. As for prayers, health for my family and me would be great. Seems like there's always something that goes wrong with these bodies. God bless.
Thanks for the 2 year update. I enjoy these perspectives from owners. I watched many of these vids before buying my brand new 2020 TRD Sport DCLB 4X4. I hope folks remember that this is an mid size truck. If back seating is an issue look at a Tundra or a full size domestic. I found the Auto trans quirky at first but now I’m used to it after 7 months of driving it. Love the factory heated seats living in Canada. This is my second Toyota Truck. Had a brand new 1992 V6 5spd extra-cab 4X4 for 14 trouble free years. Loved that truck and the QDR. Hoping for the same with this truck.
Hello there! Dude, I love how you give glory to God, The Father! He blessed me with a 19' SR5 and it is doing great! Cracked my bumper, got a new cover BUT! turns out I bent the bumper as well. OH woe is me....
It's funny you mentioned the door panel being loose as you close it when you removed the door panel for whatever reason. Don't blame the manufacturer, blame yourself for that one bud.
I doubt you will be able to say that in a couple of years 😂. Everybody knows toyota wins in reliability and durability. Not to mention they come with a LIFEtime powertrain warranty and mine is going to have lifetime oil changes as part of the deal.

Why do people complain about back seat room in a mid size truck? If you want a back seat that can fit a 6’6” person, get a full size car or full size SUV. He said, ‘ I hope Toyota can add leg room in next generation.” How? Do you want them to make the truck longer? Or do you want them to reduce the already short 5’ bed to 4’6”?
Iam waiting for my new sr5 to come in ,just wish me luck with my ,and I appreciate 🙏the prayers we all can use them prayers to you as well love the video on your sr5 be safe God bless for now ,might be back soon for more questions lol 😆🙏
"My handle is wiggly" can you nitpick a bit more? Go get a Ranger or Chevy where the timing chain fails at 50K miles and then you'll have something to complain about hahahahah!
FYI not only does the air dam help with mpg but it also creates a lower air pressure area behind the radiator to help with cooling the engine, transmission, and a/c. Manufacturers look for any gain in perceived performance at minimal cost partly for bragging and marketing reasons.
Toyota taking ownership of issues with their vehicle makes them golden to the buyer. I don't know how many people got new rust replacement truck frames that was worth more than the truck**. They are the hardest working automotive manufacturer at earning trust, and confidence. I have had a Toyota truck since 1984, and I am about ready to take delivery of my 4th Tacoma next February. Not one of these vehicles have had any drivetrain work... Maintenance, 1 water pump, batteries, bulb replacement, new wipers, tire replacement, this is my regimen for keeping them all running in top shape. **True story... One of my Toy trucks was a 1994 model, - before Tacoma they had no specific name. Well, after 18 years of driving, it was discovered to have a rusted frame. While my model year was not covered by frame replacement due to age (they drew the line at the 95 Tacoma's), I did get over Kelly Blue Book price for the truck. What other maker has that kind of resale with such a severe issue at 18 years old? They don't.
Thinking about getting out of my 2009 Duramax as I don’t have a use for a diesel anymore and getting in a new or newer Tacoma and this pushed my decision to do it even further
Nice review my Christian brother! I bought my 2019 Tacoma (TRD Off Road Dbl Cab Short Bd) new Jan '19....but I've put 108K miles on it - many of those in 4WD. We own a horse farm out in the middle of nowhere, and I'm always driving somewhere. I have zero issues and love the truck.
I'm in the process of looking for a new truck and Tacoma is on the possible list. Hopefully they have fixed the transmission in the 2022 models. That is the one thing that would definitely make me not buy one. God bless.
@@AlphaShark thanks for the reply. One thing I noticed is that the headrests on the back seats go pretty high up over the rear window. Do the headrests give you a hard time backing up or when you try to pass someone?
I’m just going to talk about your video. I have the ‘18 SR5 I bought used with only 15K on it 6 months ago. I’ve not noticed the mirror wind noise or the door being flimsy. I’ll need to check it out just to see if I have just missed it. My mods are the LED headlights, fog & license plate light. Replaced all interior lights with LED’s (now they’re almost too bright!) I put chrome rings on my a/c controls because I like chrome. I put orange insert lettering on the glove box and the 6 little pieces on the TOYOTA emblem on the steering wheel to accent the orange door/dash accents color. I put little, black trimmed in orange rubber cubby inserts (cup holders, door panel storage, coin trays, etc.). Exterior, super nice running boards, snap-over name badges in black (SR5, V6, Tacoma) and Window visors from WearherTech. Still want a bed cover and maybe mud flaps(???) But I do love my God, wife, family, church and my truck!
The whistling noise is the vortex generator on the Tacoma (serious). No clip behind the door handle but it should be screwed in there. (Remove the felt to see if the screw is loose)
Don’t buy a Toyota truck they are being designed by ex Chrysler engineers. Mike Sweers has destroyed Toyotas quality reputation. Own a 2016 and would never buy another one. Howling rear end, squealing idle pulley, leaking coolant on back side of motor from a plastic transfer pipe which will go bad before 100,000. These are poorly designed trucks. Look cool and that’s it. Hard to see out of. Leaking tri lights above the cab. Squeaking clutch pedal, squeaking suspension. I could go on.
I can see your frustration with your own truck and I'm sorry to hear that! The first model year of any new body style is almost always guaranteed to have issues, even on Toyota. My 2019 has had none of those issues and I've had it for almost three years now. I also know many others with third gen's that haven't had any issues. Granted I've also known some with minor issues here and there too! But it sounds like the 2016 model just happens to be one of the worst for reliability.
Issac Ive been following u thru this 2 yr adventure...U have brought a lot of joy and gr8 memories thru the hardest period of my life. God bless u. And I luv luv luv your truck!
Awesome job! I have never owned a Toyota, and only one other "SO CALLED" foreign vehicle, an '05 Accord that we will keep forever since it's the best vehicle we've ever owned in my 70 years!! I can Get GM, Ford and Chrysler plans and once my lease ends on my Silverado if I'm not forced to buy it out do to greed, I will get another Honda or toyota! Honda and Toyota vehicles are the most AMERICAN MADE Vehicles around, yes do the math! Plus they are the very best!!! We will be downsizing, no longer want or need a large Pickup so we are considering a Rav4 size through the midsize pickups! Cargo space is key! Thanks and God Bless You!!
Confused between I-4 and V6. I definitely want the power of the V6 but have heard horror stories of maintenance/repair just because how complex the V6 engine is and how difficult it is to reach parts like spark plugs, resulting in increased labor costs. Thoughts?
I'd do the V6... well I guess I did do the V6 haha, but thusfar apart from an issue with the serpentine belt, I've had no problems with it. It definitely has more power than the I-4
The only complaint I have about my 2020 Tacoma is the transmission-engine combination. I think Toyota tuned the transmission to be more conservative when it shifts to help with fuel economy. It is particularly annoying when driving in hilly areas. Turning on the ECT button helps. Probably not an issue if you have a manual. Also, the gas mileage could be better.
Great video. I upgraded my bumper, side steps and roll Bar with 301, 3 inch Stainless steel. The Bumper has saved my life on some of the High Ways to Hell that surround me, twice. You know the metal on our trucks is really as thin as a soda can. My Toyota Truck turns 27 in October. Just a thought when you consider an upgrade.
The kazoo noise comes from the rubber seal on top side of the window. If you hear it next time, if you just crack the window one bit, you would not hear it. Or push the door panel near the hand rest close to the window to the outside. If that noise goes away, it’s definitely the rubber seal. You can run an electrical wire inside the rubber seal to give more bulk, it should go away. I’ve had the same in my land cruiser. Here is the noise that was on my LC - ua-cam.com/video/Fxt7NLHHlZU/v-deo.html
I’d be interested in knowing what place your Tacoma was built at, Texas or Mexico? Also, I have a 2019 TRD double cab 6 foot bed- sport model and it has plenty of room above my head in the drivers seat. I’m 6’2 and have at least 6 inches above my head. Unfortunately the backseats aren’t workable for me, as my knees hit the backseat. I too recently had my water pump exchanged or upgraded on a recall.
Mine was built in Mexico but I haven’t seen anything other than those minor issues that I’ve had problems with. A lot of people go to that right away but I don’t want to assume.
@@AlphaShark I just mentioned it out of curiosity, as mine was built in Mexico too and I don’t have your issues. Good luck with college. Hi Isaac! Have you ever looked into getting a computer update at the dealer for your shifting issues? I have a 2021 SR5 and I don’t have any of those shifting glitches. My door panel is also very solid with no movement so perhaps Toyota has addressed that too. Love the heated seats add-on! I’m going to look into that. Thanks for the videos!
It's a Mexican one. I know people with Texas-built ones that have far more issues than me. The 2017 model year was entirely built in Texas and they have had major transmission issues and third brake light leaks. You can't blame a specific place for making a worse truck, everyone has bad workers from time to time.

I think dealership are trying to use depreciation on their favor. They want to buy your car/truck the first year or so to try to get a deal from you while keeping the 1 or 2 year old cars artificially high cost by creating artificial demand. At the same time they want you sell you a new one and get from you all those dealers charges.
Great video. I’m shocked about the heated seats. Didn’t know that was possible aftermarket.
They’re honestly wonderful, and so cheap? It was a steal! They can do it on any car apparently.
I added aftermarket heated seats to my FJ cruiser. One of the best mods I've ever done.
Hey man, I’m one of those tall dudes that doesn’t fit in your back seat very well 😂 great video, great truck
Perfect for a single guy or if it’s just you and your lady. If it’s you, your lady, and a baby in a car seat...you’ll be looking to trade up for the Tundra or F-150. Baby wasn’t in our plans when I got my Tacoma.
So you don’t recommend this truck for a couple with one baby?
@@BrandonGomez-mi7tj it could work, but with a rear facing kid seat, nobody can sit in front of that seat comfortably. I've tried it, it's not ideal. my daughter just got her seat turned around, so slowly but surely she'll be fitting into the back better....until she's a teenager!
@@sasquatchhunter86 late response but not late enough for your daughter to be a teenager yet, 2 of my closest friends are 6’0 and 6’1 respectively, 190lbs and 230.
they’ve had no problems with sitting in the backseat, granted no way in hell would a 3rd fit back there.
as long as you and the wife aren’t both over 6’3 she’ll be alright
Glad to hear that your bug deflector is working out great for you! About a year ago I switched from the AVS Bugflector II to the AVS Aeroskin II. I had a local body shop color match the deflector to the truck and, while I think the new body-color Aeroskin II looks better, it doesn't do nearly as good a job of deflecting bugs as the Bugflector II did. Still, it does just as good a job of protecting the hood paint as the old one did. Oh well, you gain some and you lose some.
He is freaking 6’6” he is a giant. He needs a card custom made.
I will definitely look into that! Thank you so much!
Great video! Very complete review! Hopefully you have that truck for a long time with absolutely zero problems.
Maybe it has! I’ll have to look into it!
Let’s be honest, the taco needs more power and rear disk brakes.
Drum brakes stop the truck just fine and are far cheaper to service
@@gobear83 proof?
@@vaajchang Many people shake their heads at Toyota’s decision to put drums on the rear of the Tacoma. Fans of other trucks point and laugh. However, there are a few good reasons why Tacomas have drums:
Cost: Drum brakes are cheaper to manufacture than disc brakes, and Toyota passes the savings along to its customers.
@@gobear83 yeah but the cost has gone up for tacos. 40k for compact truck w drum brakes lol? Aint no saving pass down to the customers
Your not getting a Tacoma for power though, that's what American trucks are for.
Just got a new to me but used 2019 Tacoma ,
Thanks for this video, not many videos talk about the jump on the transmission and I was worried mine was like that due to it being used.
Seems like it’s a Tacoma thing & Only happens basically when entering the highway but besides that love my Tacoma !
Blessings from VA !
get it tuned if u get the problem later on
Very well done video. Appreciate the boldness in your faith. Keep up the good work brother!
If you have an opportunity to get kdmax tune its changes the transmission dramatically. I previously had the ovtune and this one is way better. I got the super light throttle regular fuel.
Please pray that God reveal all our corrupt politicians.
Great video. Thanks for what you do
Amen.
A mechanic friend told me about the "acceleration stumble" issue (the gear slipping when accelerating) and he said that's easily solved with a software upgrade.
I’ve got the 2021 model and they’ve fixed it. It really was just a simple software upgrade
1 minute into the video and I already hit the thumbs up.
I always hit like b4 I play Isaacs vids.
Great video, these are tough trucks that are well built. I've put 30,000 on mine in year 1, and it still looks and feels brand new. I probably will go for about 300,000 and expect few problems along the way.
Let's hope so for both of us!
The thing about Toyota is on some models they don’t put a lot of money into things like door panels and all these little things your pointing out they put it in the parts and that’s why these truck last so long and it’s why I love Toyota there a little bland and not luxury on the inside but all that extra money is in the parts and IT SHOWS
I can't take anyone serious after watching the guy with the 1.5million mile Tacoma. He actually had nothing bad to say about his.
Dude I love your Camry choice. Sweet car. Paired w a Tacoma!
I hope your F-150 lasts you a longtime and serves you well! You get a lot more truck compared to a Tacoma too!
Wow. That tan on the door panel is hideous. Why would Toyota do such a thing. I have a 2021 SR Tacoma and my door panel is all black.
I absolutely love the tan! I couldn’t be happier 😃 aren’t you glad that they make different cars for different tastes and not everything is the same?
@@AlphaShark Tan was popular back in the 1980s My 1987 GMC had Tan seats.
God bless.
I will be praying! Thank you for the kind words and sounds like the perfect truck for you
Wonderful! Great update!
Had a 88 and just got a 22.
My F-150 is way better than your truck. I got a better deal; it doesn't have any problems. You made a mistake.

"My handle is wiggly" can you nitpick a bit more? Go get a Ranger or Chevy where the timing chain fails at 50K miles and then you'll have something to complain about hahahahah!
FYI not only does the air dam help with mpg but it also creates a lower air pressure area behind the radiator to help with cooling the engine, transmission, and a/c. Manufacturers look for any gain in perceived performance at minimal cost partly for bragging and marketing reasons.
Eh, I have yet to have any issues relating to those things and I’ve had no air dam for over a year, and loving itttttttt

2 years? I bet right now you can get more than you paid for this truck. They are going up like crazy!
Yes lol I have been offered above what I paid for it by dealerships but I'm not bending.
They don't.
Please pray that I’ll be a Tacoma owner in a couple of months 🙏🏽, and for prices to be reasonable!

Great video. 1st video of yours I’ve ever seen. Like the positive attitude. 👍🏼
I’m in the market for a Tacoma this year.
I hope you will make a third and fourth (an so on) review abbot this truck. I would like to see how this truck fares across these years.
Oh yes, I absolutely will, be on the lookout for them every single May, around the 19th-27th
I like these. A lot. But prefer the smaller option without 4 doors. And a 4 cylinder. With Manual. Come on,Toyota!!

It definitely has more power than the I-4
I was more interested in those tiny review mirrors, please pulled a link. Thanks! Sub’d!
No issues with the 6-speed manual transmission. No gear hunting.
Put a piece of tape across the top of your mirror where the gap is where the paint and plastic meet try that
The kazoo noise comes from the rubber seal on top side of the window.
