I’m not upset about Soto, he was here only one year, a Carpetbagger. It would have hurt if a real Yankee left. Let him go to the Mets where tradition doesn’t matter.
Give Ben Rice a shot. Sign relievers and starting pitchers. Get an outfielder in Santander or Bellinger. Play the Durbin kid at 2B. Hope Dominguez has a monster year. Rice's numbers during his first stint in the majors is better than Judge's and similar to McGwire's. If Rice doesn't pan out, get someone at the deaedline. Yankee offered a 60 million signing bonus so I doubt that was it. Once Cohen went to 805 ( with escalator clauses) and Hal refused to match, that was it. The question is: If Hal had matched, would Soto have taken the offer? If yes, then the Yankees should’ve signed him. If “no” and this was going to go on indefinitely, then it was the right move.
Soto wanted out from day 1. All we heard all season was Soto is going to be a Met at the end of the season. He used the Yankees to get the highest contract, which was all he wanted.
Did we forget about Oswald Peraza? Im not saying he should play, but i am saying we're not even talking about him, and he could be a good trade piece for extra arms. Spencer Jones, Peraza and Nestor for Crochet? 🤔
At the end of the day. Soto and Boras cared most is about AAV, and the total money package. It is Soto's choice. There is nothing wrong with that. He had won the WS with Nationals so that at least has been crossed off. Now his next achievement is to get the biggest contract and he did it. With his production, he is likely going to the hall of fame some day and it does not have to be with the Yankees. He has an opt out clause and he could get another chance in a few years. Now what the Yankee needs is more contact hitting, better defense and replenish their bullpen. With 51M per year that we did not give out, that leaves a lot of space to construct a competitive team.
No dude… the Yankees need a great bullpen, a bullpen that scares other teams like what we had 1996 - 2001!!! Cashman has to get his head right, cause right now he’s dopey-drunk!!!!!!
Just Spit balling. Probably a long shot, although you never know since the Marlins and Yankees matched up before in trades. But what about Jake Burger? Arb eligible 2026, Free agency 2029 (from fangraphs). i know his price tag might be high since Miami usually likes moving players with a year or so out of free agency. I know he's a righty bat but he's younger/cheaper than Bregman ,less injury concern than Correa. My gut feels like he falls into the same not happening category as Ryan McMahon, but the Marlins play in division where the Braves, Phillies, mets are the dominant team with the Nationals being an interesting team with upside. Burger's bat profile matches a lot of what the yankees value (barrel, hard hit, bat speed). Allows Yankees to slot Chissolm to 2b. Burger not at the same level as the 3b i mentioned but still more familiar with the position than Chissolm (especially cutoff and relay positioning.
Mets fan here: I don’t think Soto wanted to be a Yankee long term. The Yankees needed to blow away the Mets’ offer and they didn’t. It was a good bid from the Yankees but Soto just preferred the Mets. The Yankee legacy didn’t mean anything to him which makes sense since he was just a rental and didn’t grow through the system.
If possible get Hernandez, Walker, Santander, and Burnes. If Cashman was going to spend 760 mill on Soto, then he can use that toward addding 3-4 quality players. Cashman has been disappointing. Trading all those pitchers to the Padres for a one year rental. Not a smart move. Yet Cashman said he was glad that he traded for him.
Great pod as usual, sign me up for Bellinger and hoerner for a jones headlined package. Trading away a k machine for two guys that add elite defense, base running and contact is a no brainer. 39 million well invested.

What owner keeps failing management for this length of time - an idiot as owner. Until management changes, Yankee fans will continue to be disappointed and frustrated.
I think Jason Dominguez is going to be the new Juan Soto for the Yankees let's go Yankees

Not sold on Dominquez yet…
I agree let the damn kid PLAY..... None of that in and out of the lineup crap.

The Yankees have deep pockets and have tried to “buy” success but money does not always translate into a balanced team. For 15 years Cashman has failed so what makes one think that tomorrow will change. He simply cannot produce a winner simply because he does not know how. What owner keeps failing management for this length of time - an idiot as owner. Until management changes, Yankee fans will continue to be disappointed and frustrated.
Cashman will accomplish nothing this off-season, and it will take him way too long not to do it.
Man he ain’t doing anything. Some scrub small signings then run it back and he’ll say they’re confident. Same old.
