  • Just before Deep Week begins in Mt Gambier I went diving for Southern Rock Lobsters with some of the students. The South Australian water was beautiful and cold! The seaweed was absolutely stunning and yes! Yes! we got lobster!
    I'm enjoying foraging and spearfishing more and more these days and it's always exciting chasing new species and diving in new areas.

    Adam I just wanted to say thank you. I started a journey this year to turn my life around, lose weight, and pursue Freediving professionally as I have scuba for years. I was 305 lbs January first, smoked, and partied a lot. I quit smoking, quit drinking, cleaned up my diet, and started working out 3-6 days a week. I would watch your videos and practice my apnea tables. Your personality is so motivating.
    This week I did a zero to hero program in pursuit of Freediving instructor level 1 so I can follow in your footsteps and show this sport we love to the world.
    Well all that hard work paid off, I lost 50 lbs, stayed off cigarettes, and passed my level 2 free diver course, achieved a 4:10 static apnea with plenty left in the tank (I was stopped for “safety” as I had already blew through the requirements) and most importantly I am now a level 1 Freediving instructor and a Mermaid instructor.
    Though you don’t know me you have really done a lot to change my life this year.
    Here is to my next 2021 goal of another 40lbs lost and level 3 free diver/level 2 instructor
    Thank you again!
    Fuzzy

    Oh man, right there with you on seaweed appreciation. I live in western Canada, and it's kind of the focal point of a lot of dives, haha. Big kelp forests, eel grass meadows, and lots of cool stuff in between. It feels like a walk in the forest here. Hard not to appreciate the beauty.

    I've recently started snorkelling and looking to freedive over the next few months. I'm looking for my first wetsuit - I've been recommended a 4 or 5mm thickness but not sure what brands to look out for online. Does anyone have any recommendations that could help me out?? :)

    • @jaytea3299
      @jaytea3299 3 роки тому +1

      Hi Jonny! There are some awesome brands out there, Adam even has a video on the topic here: ua-cam.com/video/RHocklxQ-IA/v-deo.html. The main consideration is water temperature! I have a Riffe suit and my wife has an Oceaner and a Scubapro, but there are plenty of others. The spearos and freedivers are usually using an open-cell wetsuit which is harder to put on but warmer, so you can use a thinner and thus more flexible one for the same amount of warmth. Just check out Adam's vid, shop around, and start with a suit that is appropriate to the water temps where and when you will be diving. Have fun!!!!

    Hello Adam! A quick question if you can elaborate. Doing Wim Hof breathing and then holding my breath on empty lungs I can hold an easy 4 minutes. When doing freediving breathing and then hold my breath on full lungs I struggle to hit 3 minutes. Why is this?

    Hey Adam, I just started watching your videos after seeing your tips for increasing breath hold ability. I am 21 years old and interested in diving, though I have never done it before and have no clue about my general aptitude, I am just fascinated by the sport. I do yoga asana nearly every day and run a couple times a week, so I am fairly active but I am not a marathon runner by any means. My RHR fluctuates between 34-39 bpm, and though I understand that is not ordinary, the doctors I have asked about it have shown no concern. I am not meaning to ask for medical advice, but as someone interested in the sport I was wondering if this is something you believe I should have some concern about, or at least what it might mean for my ability to gain aptitude.
