I agree with you, I had a really hard time getting through this book

I kinda think the ending was the point. Odin is supposed to be the wisest of all the gods. He even tells Shadow about two man cons. Everything that occurs makes sense, and that grounded the ending for me. The closer they got to the final battle, the less I actually wanted a big giant battle to be the end. Like you said, it's about the journey. It's more about the questions and themes that you consider while reading than the actual destination. Loved this book. The show is definitely great though. It develops characters like Laura and Bilquis alot more, and it stays fresh even if you've read the book because of how it diverges and develops. I definitely think that you watching the show first might have tainted your reading experience somewhat

Thank you very much. It's nice to have books that make you think and have discussions with people about. I'll reread it again one day.

Great review. I agree with you 100% about the show. The book was great, but the show brings a sense of reality that the book couldn't deliver. I would love to see the end of the book play out on the show. Great review.

If anyone had a hard time with the book I REALLY recommend the anniversary audiobook, it really brings the book to life

I think this book however great it’s written lacks emotional connection

I really love and always have loved the overall concept...and I feel the show lacks in, that the whole idea of gods if old still lingering through culture and the melting pot existence the u.s. thrives upon...of course the ( holy) lands here ,being most visited and energy receiving would be side road attractions. And how new gods vs old gods in general. What a concept. As old as the old gods are they would be slightly faded and less powerful than they were in there hay day, like the cultures and people who covet them hold them many years later being meer whispers in this new land and its new way of living... and mirroring the new gods who in this new lifestyle are plastic and short spoken with a technological stiffness such beings would embody....I personally didn't enjoy the show...I felt it though bigger and way more explained, I feel lost most of the big picture .that the book delivered.... plus I read the book years before and waited a long time for adaptation...perhaps its just a case of wishing for too much and over hype in my brain!! Lol its like being over excited for a movie and when finally getting there it could no way ever live up to the desire..thx great review

There are so many hints tho throughout the book and show. Of odin basically telling you his motives. And makes it clear from the beginning he's a liar and wants knowledge and is for himself. Which is kinda good writing and sticks to odin lore. To me it was kinda clear his motives to be honest. If you know odin lore it's kinda basic stuff he does throughout his lives.

It probably is obvious, but not when I read it. To be honest I wasn't expecting this to work out the way it did, so missed all the pointers. Possibly time to reread it. Thanks!

I read the book over 4 days and in the case of this book, it's the journey, not the destination. Also leaves it open for a sequel

Nice review! I finished the book today- the ending was sorta a bittersweet feeling to me. I agree seems people are shifting from religion and beliefs to believing in the telly, money and social media.

Wow I'm watching this just after I read the book and you captured my feelings exactly but really enjoyed the climax because I sorta expected the climax to go the way it did, It is a bit laggy but a good read none the less

sincerly i kinda expected that this big war was an odin's plot, given to what kind of god he is, i just expected he got some kind of retribution

(Spoiler Ahead) Totally agreed with you. I too was shocked to see that whole of the thing is rigged and Odin comes out to be an ass in the end.

I loved the ending, they should've seen it coming, the other gods didn't really like MR Wednesday that much for a reason...

I know, it's obvious when I look back, but it's still left me not sure about the book. It's clever and everything, but I kinda feel cheated by it.

@@SabrinaCoxAtTheWyrmberg but then again, I wonder how Neil Gammon would have written this book during this Era. I believe that the reason for the show being better is because the technology shown is more up to date. Anywho, I loved your take on this book. I'm still trying to understand it while watching season 3.
