I have a 6.4 Hemi 2500 RAM, honestly for the price difference between it and a cummins I'm happy with it. I'm glad someone did a video like this, and glad it was your channel. Keep up the great content man.
Yeah the only reason I would go to a diesel which I might in the future is if I decided to start pulling 2 cars long distance! Otherwise I really enjoy the gas truck. Thanks for watching glad you enjoyed the video.🤘
My brothers, cousin and I drove from Pennsylvania to central Florida in my brothers 2017 GMC 3500 crew cab with a utility body, 6.0, 4.10 gears with a 27’ camper hooked up. Averaged about 8-9 mpg the whole way. Just a few weeks ago, We used a Chevy express 3500 extended chassis with a 6.0, 3.48(?) gears and a new 34’ camper to do the same trip. Got the same fuel mileage. So no matter what, with a 6.0 and a decent amount of weight behind it, you’re gonna get around 10mpg.
That’s kinda what I’ve seen as well! I’ve had my 24 enclosed behind the truck and with some head wind I’ve seen 8-8.5 which is definitely heavier and only seen about 1 mpg difference. Not the greatest but it gets the job done!
I've got a 2005 crewcab 1500hd with 6.0 & 4:10 gears it gets about 9.6mpg towing our boat to the lake which is roughly 5,500lb. Very curvy/ hilly drive there also. I got 14.6 without anything behind it before I tuned it & did e-fan swap. I've gotten 16.8 on a long trip since running about 60mph most of the way.
My 2017 2500HD 6.0 with 4:10 differential averaged 9.8 around 60mph towing a 10,000 pound 5th wheel from Ontario Canada to British Columbia. I'm satisfied.
I would absolutely love to get your fuel mileage towing. I get 11 unloaded. Towing best I have gotten is 7 on flat ground and downhill. My trailer is just over 10,000. My normal towing averages 5-6 if I’m nice. If I do the speed limit I sit around 4.
One things for sure if you’re pulling anything behind a 6.0, you don’t have to worry about leg cramps or getting stiff driving bc every 250-300 miles you’re gna be getting out to get gas. Rock solid platform since 2000 in the 2500 and 3500 trucks
Dang my 92 TBI 454 with NV 4500 5 speed 410 rear towing same load from Florida going north I got 10.8 I was pretty damn happy now that I see this video I’m super damn happy
How come no one talks about the truck pulling sixteen thousand pounds of calves off the ranch on gravel and uphill its still does it's job cowboy from Montana
I did all the math when I bought my 2010 2500HD crewcab longbed 4x4 and I just couldn't make the 10K upcharge for the DMAX justified. I walked out of the dealership for $34K with my WT package and even with 140K miles on the odometer, I am still money ahead of the initial 10K upcharge. My oil changes are around $40 DIY which figures into the cost savings over a diesel because I use 6 quarts vs 10 for a diesel. I don't need DEF (another savings). My truck gets 14 MPG unloaded, 9 MPG with my 30ft camper, around 10 pulling my open trailer w/jeep loaded, and 11 pulling my 21 ft boat. I would have loved a DMAX, but I don't regret my decision to get the 6.0 gasser.
I love my 2016 2500 6.0 things a beast entire truck is a workhorse and definitely built for whatever you throw at it I've towed over 20k pounds with mine on a few occasions and it's held up good. Definitely not rated for that tho
I know a lot of people are hard on the 6.0 about performance and mpg but it's been around for a long time and it's hit home factor is reliability thats main reason I bought mine over a diesel and like you said as well cost difference. All in all 9.0 to 10.2 mpg isn't that bad I don't think.

GM recommends only activating the tow/haul mode if at 70% or more of the towing capacity. That little S10 on a trailer is only about 40% towing capacity.
In the 2500 they went to the new 6.6, more efficient makes more power and maybe a small amount better fuel mileage. In the 1500 they went to a new aluminum 6.2 direct injected engine (l86) I believe. Which makes good power and gets a little better fuel mileage
Maybe a modern one. My ‘04 5.3 would’ve gotten similar or worse towing his trailer, especially with my larger tires. IMO I think he’s right at the cutoff of when a half ton would begin to suffer mpg-wise vs a 2500.

Problem with a 1500 ram economy diesel you are limited to probably a 8000 pound tow difference on a 2500 series truck, so I bet if you add that weight and tried to pull the max weight a 2500 can pull you would not be getting that mpg. I have a 2017 3500 LTZ dually 6.0 vortec and average driving around town unloaded mpg is lowest roughly 11.7 mpg highest 13.4 mpg, towing I get around lowest 7.8mpg highest 9.6mpg towing around 25k
I traded my 2016 dmax in and honestly I thought it would be a bad deal, but he'll I pulled my enclosed trailer around constantly and the damn thing stayed in regen so I average 10mpg the best I ever got open highway was 17mpg. So not a huge difference from the 6.0 vortec. And the 6.0 vortec is cheap and easy to work on.

Bullsh!t! You're obviously NOT driving a 2500 3/4 Ton pickup
That’s right I’m not. An ecodiesel is a ram 1500
@@damionjones8944 you could be right but like they say get the right tool for the job. I just pull a corvette on a trailer and my ski boat
What are you getting when not towing?
Around 15-16 on the highway
Does anyone know what gear ratio the 2500HD has?
My 2004s first gear ratio is 5.79 max, 2nd gear 3.31, 3rd 2.10, 4th 1.31, 5th 1.00, and 6th .76
What’s the year?
2017
3:56 easy traffic in Dallas
Wow city miles I was getting 500 miles a tank of gas and run it to the light come on

He ain’t got no sense you gonna mess up that 6 Speed Because he didn’t put it On Tow/Haul Mode.
At the 5:49 mark of the video. The tunnel you went thru is called the George Wallace tunnel in Mobile,Al. & next time you drive thru... Please use the slow lane? Us daily commuters hate you slow drivers in the fast lane.lol
