    I have a 1995 autocar that I put a head back on and for some reason number one cylinder exhaust push rod keeps bending only one that put the jake brake back on it's not plugged in or anything I pull the Jake back off I replace the push rod runs fine soon as I put the Jack back on tour Can't Back Down it bends just that pushrod why any ideas

      3406b caterpillar I took a sea head off because it's the same non-electric and put it on head-to-head checked out and they said everything was good and that's the problem I've had this truck has been down because I've got cancer and I'm trying to keep everything in-house because medical bills are killing me this thing is just been down for like 7 months for me screwing with it

    • @charleslong6433

      I watched a lot of the videos it helps me a lot but it always shows a head that's not exactly mine it's a 1995 3406b caterpillar with a Jake I always call somebody in to adjust the valves because my mind can't comprehend because of all the meds on how to set the valve clearance because it's not the identical head is mine any kind of help is highly appreciated you just don't know how much I appreciate it

    • @cwj9202
      @cwj9202 7 років тому

      The problem could be an improperly adjusted jake brake causing that jake to be too "tight". Have you had the jake setting checked?

    • @charleslong6433
      @charleslong6433 7 років тому

      is there any way that you might be able to show on your videos or whoever this is talking um how to actually set the valves on that Jake because like I said I bring people in for some reason everything else runs right except for that one I don't have a problem with the back Jake for the rest of it just at number one and nothing is sticking because I checked the spring in the head and everything I've had it off twice now or if you'd like to whoever this is if you'd like to call me my cellular phone is 313-778-5332

    To remove the top bearing cup from a c15 I use a brake shoe lining rivet . Fits perfectly in the oil gallery and has a flat top Bit of a share :)

    good idea using the bolt on two three five and six I never thought of that keep up the good work enjoy watching your videos I recently just got the same puller that you're using I prefer it over the old style where I had to remove the Piston out of the liner because when I had to put them in the core box I have to compress the Rings or break them off seems like it saves a step

    • @AdeptApe
      @AdeptApe  7 років тому

      +James Johnson I usually try to keep the pistons in the packs, but these I had to pull the rings off the pistons and remove them to get the puller out.

    Just finished my c15 acert complete overhaul, it took me and mechanic 1 day installing main bearings. Each bearing was installed with a plastic gauge inspected then reinstalled. The long pipe was involved in the installation, the bolts were torque to 120lbs then turned 2 flats other term 60º. My legs were in pain lol.

    • @AdeptApe
      @AdeptApe  7 років тому +1

      +Nikolai Romanov I hate to be the bearer of bad news but 60 degrees is one flat not two, unless you are using a 12 point socket.

    • @nikolairomanov3160
      @nikolairomanov3160 7 років тому

      Adept Ape, we followed 60º. Thank you. I feel power now, now is real CAT.

    • @AdeptApe
      @AdeptApe  7 років тому +1

      +Nikolai Romanov I'm glad you built it slowly and methodically it sounds like. We never use plasticgage and use a 3/4" impact to torque turn them on the C15 engines. Which isn't ideal, but we can't spend 16 man hours on the mains. It's different when it's your own rig though.

    • @AdeptApe
      @AdeptApe  7 років тому +1

      +Simon Leighty From the looks of the Camshaft, it won't need replaced so far. Since it'll pass inspection I probably won't be removing it and timing it.

    I'm doing engine tear-down and rebuild in my heavy equiment course so this is really helpful to watch bro.
    I used the heal bar method you used in the video since main bearing journal #4 on a 3126 doesn't have the oil port hole to stick a pin in, gently working it out. Then a classmate ran over to me in shock; "whoa what the hell are you doing?!... oh I guess that will work..." I figured that side of the bearing doesn't matter as much if it gets a few nicks in it however we are reusing the old bearings, lol. thanks for the video!

    • @AdeptApe
      @AdeptApe  7 років тому

      +Corey Regier If you are reusing the bearings the pry bar trick might not be the best then, just tell your cheap school to buy some new bearings already.

    • @coreyregier5546
      @coreyregier5546 7 років тому

      I know its not the best, however in this situation we can get away with it since these engines only run a couple minutes after they are 'rebuilt'. We were also told to only torque fasteners 75% of spec, so we don't overstretch bolts, lol. Also one of our rods was bent when we took it out.
      Personally I'd love to throw a new rod, seals, gaskets main bearings and camshaft bearing at it but they don't have much money to throw around as you said. Thanks for your concern and I'll let you know if one blows up... to be continued.

    • @AdeptApe
      @AdeptApe  7 років тому

      +Corey Regier My first rebuild at school was like that, wasn't very well supervised either, the instructor let us put the engine together dry with no oil on the rotating assembly, guess what, it didn't rotate when it was all done. Oops.

    • @coreyregier5546
      @coreyregier5546 7 років тому

      Well everyone got their engines running, one group had their injection pump timed wrong due to multiple
      timing marks on the pump gear and another group busted their injector lines on a Mac engine with EUP.
      Ours started after ten seconds of cranking and we had no leaks or issues. some white smoke due to the bent connecting rod/less compression we figured. Other than the bad rod it runs good. Your videos were really helpful while I was putting it together, thanks!

    the top golden bearings that prevent the crank from moving, are those necessary to remove? would it take crank out of specs??

    • @st_us
      @st_us 7 років тому +1

      just rock the crank forwards and backwards from the crank pulley. if the play is excessive just change them. normally they come with an original bearing set so why not change them as well.

      That make sense because when we install we put first the liner and then the piston
