  • Bought a new toy: Korg RK-100S 2 Keytar!
I’ve been wanting to get my hands on one of these for years. Saw a great on-sale deal last month and I just couldn’t resist….😂💸💸
Been playing hard for a few weeks and made this video, playing some iconic riffs but mainly to showcase the sounds of this board. All backing tracks were made from my Korg Kronos’ sequencer. Sorry it’s a little long (18 minutes), as you can see I had too much fun! 😂
The RK-100S 2 comes with 200 internal sounds and vocoder, the sound engine is actually from the famous MicroKORG mini synth. However, the sounds cannot be edited, modified or saved. It does have USB and MIDI connections.
To me the hardest part about playing is that the keys are smaller than normal piano keys, it’ll take lots of time and practice to get used to. Overall this is a really fun instrument with decent sounds, I’m happy with the purchase. I especially love it’s secret magic: as soon as you put it on, you feel much younger! 😁
🎧Please use headphones for better experience.
    Thanks for watching! 🎹🎤🎶

great playing, and great patch choices but a couple notes: 1. you really would benefit from using the modulation ribbon to finish off your longer sustained notes when playing lead, it will add a lot of expression; 2. you mentioned in your responses that the patches are not editable and the keytar cannot transpose... both of those are incorrect. There is a computer editor that allows for deep editing of every patch, and transposition is both a per-patch and a global setting, but for realtime alteration: hold down shift and press the favorites E button to see the current transpose setting then use the octave +/- buttons or the patch select lever to change the setting, then hit shift button to exit.

As a fellow RK owner, I love this. Great work getting all those sounds figured out. I am trying to figure out how to get the sound of the intro to Thin LIzzy - Angel Of Death if you want to give that a shot! I know it was played on an Oberheim OBX.

Awesome! Mine is being delivered tomorrow. Did you make all of these presets custom and upload them to the Keytar or are they among the 200 factory presets? I’m so excited to get mine. Btw, do you know if there is an iOS app by chance that I can use to manage the KeyTar? Thanks for the great upload 🙏😊

Congratulations on your new keytar, you’ll have so much fun!
All sounds in the video are factory presets. I don’t use any app or software, so can’t help on that part.
      Enjoy your new toy! 😁

@@frankhsu570 these are great sounds. I went to the Korg site and read the manual cover to cover. Korg offers a free program with thousands of other presets that you can send via usb over to KeyTar of you want to change some. You can also alter the function of the ribbon controllers and change the midi cc for any of the parameters (like if you own a Behringer Fb101 midi floorboard you can use it and have its expression pedals dynamically control two other mod parameters and use the pedals to change programs or even turn on/off effects with a preset live). I’ll upload do,e vids when I start playing with mine. It comes this afternoon 😁😁😁😁😁. Keep uploading videos please. You play really well.

I’m an amateur musician who mostly learn by ear.
Though I can’t read music sheet efficiently, I have learned and developed good knowledge about chord structures, which is very important and useful for pop music or any other genre. Basically almost all music are based on some kind of f chord progression.
When I’m trying to learn a new song, I’d listen to it many many times, little section at a time, sometimes even slow down (UA-cam has the function to slow the speed) to figure out the notes. Whether it’s the main melody, different instrumental parts, or even drum patterns.
Doing this for many years and you’ll get better and better as your ear and playing skills get better. Lots of practice is essential.
Best luck to your music journey!

@@frankhsu570 my question is exactly this how can I learn and practice chords structure . Honestly when I was 19 20 I went to learn classic guitar I could play classic sheet music like Fernando Sor Fernando Carulii beethoven Mozart ..about 9 month but I didn't like play like a robot I like to learn scales chords Rythm I could play Fur Elise beethoven I could play Swan lacke Tchaikovsky but I couldn't know anything about pop music I couldn't understand what is Rythm and didn't know anything about chords I said to my master how can I learn scales but he didn't say good answer to me . The only thing he said me was you must practice it and he played an scale like C major but he didn't say me even 4 chords . I have a few friends that went to guitar pop style and they could play many pop song with only 4 5 chords

@@hadinajafpour7858 There are tons of videos on UA-cam about this, so please research when you have time.
I recommend to get familiar with the basic major and minor chords for every key. Learn all their inversions. Later on learn the additional chords such as 7th, 6th, sus 2, sus 4, etc.
Play with very simple patterns first, as you get better, you’ll naturally be playing with more complicated styles. Also start with very simple songs.
      Hope this can help.

The keytar does not have transpose function.
It has MIDI, so you can connect and use the sounds from other keyboard.
