I don’t find this creepy at all- when they played this music in stores like K-Mart, grocery stores and malls back then there was reverb- especially at the malls. I worked and spent much of my youth at malls- this music is very comforting! They should bring it back- I think most people would like it- it’s gone from cheesy to retro now!
@@jacklynlopez2323 I am sure going to miss kmart when the last stores close next year s and it was even sad to find out the first kmart I remember going to in Menominee is going to close in December it is closing after more than 40 years in Menominee Michigan.
The echo does suggest those cavernous malls with the high ceilings often with skylights. Hearing this I can imagine walking with my wife from Penney's to Sears to Macy's. Look up there. Isn't that a balloon that slipped from some unfortunate child's hand? What, the water fountain is under repair _again_ ? Let's go to Roy Rogers and get a Double R Bar Burger. My wife was an employee at Roy Rogers waaay back in the '70s when I had first met her. Her specialty was making the coleslaw. The secret she said was that all of the ingredients were chilled to 38° and kept there after it was made. Yum!
My dad worked there that year and was Santa Claus.I was 4 years old that Christmas 1974. ( Not till I got older did I really know it was dad and not 🎅)🤣 My dad died August 2017. I can close my eyes and I am there in those moments at Kmart with this music. Love it! Thanks!
the music of michael jackson is creepy. if this had a video of a fireplace it would befit the holidays. an effort is being made to associate it with oldness and death it is no more outdated than the jackson 5.
This music isn't creepy, it brings back very nice memories for me of when I was just a wee lad and how much I looked forward to Christmas and everything that went with it. The lights, the tinsel, church Christmas eve. Too may wonderful things to remember. We really did live in a golden time and there was a lot to be thankful for, cherish and remember fondly. That first REAL metal tow truck I got. The huge construction crane that ran on batteries, the fire engine with the real working sirens and lights and a fire house that actually squirted water. Listening to the local radio station Christmas Eve night talking about how Santa was captured on radar at the local airport. These are things I wish I could bring back for my own kids now. Those t.v. special holiday programs like Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, The Year Without a Santa Claus and who can forget Heat Miser and his brother Cold Miser? Yes, these videos make it all come rushing back to me from some place in my memory where there are always Christmas lights, trees and wonderful music like this. Just a little place tucked away back there that I go to sometime, no matter what the actual time of year is. There, its always Christmas.
imagine someone playing the music of jacko or shitney houston to videos of funeral homes and coffins that is what people are doing to this music. it is not less outdated than the jackson 5. it should be set to a fireplace video
I go there often just to enjoy the feeling of Christmas, and these KMart Christmas music tapes take me back to the Christmases of my youth. When I was in my 20s I worked at Kmart for 4+ years, and while Christmas time there was super busy it was fun to just get caught up in it all and see kids tearing up the toy dept (lol). Time to step into the time machine again...
I agree, I felt 'high' too while wandering around the shops when I was a kid; I'm pretty sure the fluorescent lights flickering had something to do with it, but I was pretty much a zombie by the time we got back in the car to go home.
@J. Brad Henderson True, when people went to the brick and mortar stores especially larger strip malls and indoor malls it was a place to get together with family and friends and socialize, and if you were teenagers you'd be flirting with the opposite sex. It was FUN, something is LOST on many people today. Cheers, and hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas...from your friends in the USA.
That has come to me in a dream and not only that the lights were almost dimmed all the way with an endlessness of isles and no people, only death taking you to see the people you once knew.
reminds me of a forgotten childhood memory. A memory that never happened but you just felt there was that one time you heard this. A simple time. A happy time. I step back into the store of my childhood and ran to the toy aisle to play with the toy Hotwheels on the floor.
Worked at Northridge KMart part time during the holidays while in high school and listened to their looped Christmas music for hours. Never sounded quite like this.
The reverb is perfect as it captures the musical sound playing in the background in places like K-Mart, Sears, Grants department chain, Penny's, etc. and malls everywhere. There were crowds everywhere.

If Kmart had remodeled their stores to this look when they had the money, instead of going shopping for companies to eat up, they would have the market cornered today
Yup! From what I heard that Kmart purchased Sports Authority, OfficeMax, and Borders Bookstore! They should've thought wisely before buying them. I remember someone mentioned that Kmart had chance of buying Walmart but didn't!
Sears & K Mart under the same umbrella was a very wrong business move for both. K Mart in the mid 1970’s took over a lot of the W.T.Grant’s stores after W.T.Grant’s went out of business. K.Mart under it’s early 1980’s umbrella had K Mart, S.S.Kresgee & Jupiter stores which that was better. K.Mart would have been better off being owned by Cole’s of Australia & Sear with Ace Hardware stores & the Japanese Department store chain call Dai.
@@christopherorourke6543 I love Dai. I go there whenever I see one. Japanese household stuff is often more practical, convenient, and somehow cheaper than American stuff.
You are absolutely right. They lost sight of their brand and today they don't even know what their brand is. I was a manager for them for 17 years before I left out of desperation of seeing such a great company going down the drain. Mismanagement from the top did them in, and Joe Antonini was the nail in their coffin.

I really like this music the way it echoes like you were walking around a store. When I was a child my mom took me to our downtown, it had a ton of stores. Now there no big stores but a bunch of smaller ones.
When I grew up K Mart was the place to shop. They had a store on the east side of the city I grew up in and one on the north side of town. Today they are both closed and there is a Walmart on the east side of town and another up on the north side .
Luckily we still have a Kmart that will remain open as long as they can. I still shop there first way before I would ever go to a Wal-Mart or Target. The music reverb sounds like a cross between The Shining Overlook Hotel end scene music and The Haunted Mansion. It still sounds like that with a merry-go-round carousel for kids at a nearby mall by my house.

It has a David Lynch touch that I find disturbing (and yet crave without just abandon) with this empty, eerie, ghostly mall ambience that sort of quietly died somewhere recently and no one is there anymore and it's all deserted and then suddenly this music starts playing and blasting from what appears to be out of nowhere, and there's no one to be found anywhere around and it was just a dream now wasn't it? Or maybe, the dream started up again, are you sure? That's fine with me, I feel like shopping, even though the stores are all closed. Good night and happy holidaze to youse and yours may you all have many happy returns and holiday season fun. Peace.

It’s the reverb ... people who can feel it are lucky, aren’t we?
Some people can’t
Love it!☺ THANK YOU!
This sure brings back some good memories. God bless you and thanks for sharing this.
Good job. The changing sign was a great touch
A Real "Ghost of Christmas Past".
Loved those "Blue Light Specials" and "Holiday Lay Away" plans too.

Attention: All Kmart Shoppers. Lol
Truly a Ghost of Christmas Past.
I love these videos, both for the visuals and also the music. I can practically see that bit off to the side of the main entrance where they'd be selling Christmas trees, and I can smell those delicious french fries and other things cooking at the cafeteria.
O the reverb LOVE IT
FELL SO GOOD WITH THE DEKOS AND SOFT CHRISTMAS MUSIC. ENJOY BUYING IN THIS K MART STORE
Even the reverb has reverb . Like dropping a fender twin from 3 feet off the ground with the volume knob on 11. Twaaaaaaaaaaaanggggggg !
Great Christmas music while Christmas shopping.
Now there's Black Friday.
D'ya ever listen to the sounds of "that" when it's televised on the news?
This type of music sounds nostalgic even for 1974.
